Broad brush condemnation is usually a knee jerk over reaction isn't it?

Hollywood has produced some very acceptable Movies/TV Shows Christians can watch and enjoy.

Now, the majority of what they put out isn't worth watching for Christians, but surely discernment can be applied?

If they glorify sex, violence, drugs, alcohol, or the love of money, then don't watch or listen. It's hard finding secular movies, shows, or music these days that don't.

Should is between you and God.
My question is why would you?
Why would a child of God subject themselves to such foolishness and evil and add to the wealth of those who produce it?
I will have no part in it.

My question is why would you?

because i like spaceships and giant robots.

why do people read threads here that they know they are going to disagree with and be offended by?
doesn't seem like that much of an essential difference. but we learn some things from doing that, don't we? or do we?

That box that most of us have in our houses called a TV is the reason most kids don't grow up reading the Bible. People claim the Bible is so difficult to read and understand. The Bible only has an 8,000 word vocabulary. A five year old has a vocabulary of 8,000+ words.

The competing voices in this world are taking away from the one voice we should be listening to, the Word of God. TV is a powerful influence. Only the word of God is more “powerful” (Heb.4:12).

We know what the land of OZ is, the home of a wizard, but we have no clue about the land of UZ, the home of Job who was perfect and upright before God.

huh

there is actually quite a bit about God on TV...of course one does have to be selective

as a child, I had my own kiddie's Bible, illustrated, and I spent a good deal of time in it and watched TV too

my preference was always being outside tho...many kids these days have a crick in their neck from their phones, tablets etc and I know I spend too much time on here solving the world's problems haha

Discernment...........One only has to scroll through the Menu of Shows on TV to determine which may be worth watching, and which are not worth watching.

I enjoy the various Nature Shows that are on TV. Some great shows, and very educational.

I enjoy some of the Reality Shows........because they do not "glorify" the sins of man, rather, they reveal the ugly truth of people who live such sin filled lives. Border Wars, Alaska State Troopers, Wild Justice, the one with the Maine Game Wardens come to mind.

I enjoy River Monsters with Jeremy Wade........it's a horribly sinful show about a man traveling around the World to try and catch various "monster" fish.

I still enjoy The Andy Griffith Shows......Little House.....and a couple of others.

There are many more........one simply has to utilize discernment.

Broad brush condemnation isn't any more Biblical than most of what Hollywood offers up.

quite a lot of it is wrong, too =\

my wife and i have been watching some new mini-series on religion with Morgan Freeman together - there's alot of misrepresentation and bad information in it, that i know is wrong, probably more i don't know about.
so we criticize it together while we watch - and it brings up things we wouldn't talk about otherwise. i think that's good. it's not completely a bad show, either - it is thought provoking, if nothing else, and Freeman is a very likable narrator.

we watched a lot of those ridiculous alien shows on the ((so-called)) "history" channel too, while i criticized and corrected them. there was the same sort of benefit; together by debunking what we watched, we learned a lot of science and history and had discussions about what's actually true, that we would not have talked about otherwise.

scary to think though, that some people don't have any such knowledge or understanding, and watch stuff like this, and believe it - just head over to the conspiracy forum, or browse youtube. if you don't take this "entertainment" with a grain of salt, it is an awful warping and corrupting influence =[

I like Morgan Freeman...but he needs a serious sitdown talk

once in a while, I will watch youtube vids about the nephilim...alien conspiracies etc

usually with a box of salt beside me

good that you and your wife discuss...my husband and I have some good discussion on things like that too..

he laughs about my sci-fi preference, but at least I know it's fiction haha

then there were those movies with Tom Hanks...from the books by Dan Brown...some people took those as literal

I refused to watch that particular Mini-Series because I know enough of Morgan Freeman's ideology to know what would be coming.........but, if you wanna, that's up to you.

Another boost for Cliff's record/album sales ! lol

Cliff played with The Shadows in his early days and even today their stuff still sounds good.

As regards watching movies/wordly music, really it's what each individual is happy with, if they are watching/listening to something that doesn't sit well with them, simply turn it off, NO big deal, and DON'T make it so!

Whatever floats your boat, just don't make a mountain out of a mole hill! :p

I don't think we are supposed to living in a tiny insulated christian bubble. Worldly music well a lot of it sucks before you even get to the lyrics part of it, so whatver for that one. Christian music normally falls off at the lyrics portion since it just tends to be terribly repetitive.

As far as movies, well the bible has its own violent scenes as well, so that part never bothers me. As far as swearing or sex scenes? its just words or nudity, if either of those things are so terrifying, maybe you should go live under a rock. If youre an adult and cant view them without having a conniption fit then I feel sorry for you.
Well ... one point that always comes to my mind where 14+ movies are concerned ... is the open sexuality often prevalent in them. Were we really ever meant to watch couples copulate? Shouldn't that be something private? And I don't know what's up with shower scenes in every movie ... is it healthy for us to be looking through bathroom windows? And honestly, if it were not for movies I might have happily spent my whole, entire life never once seeing a brutal murder in real life ... but thanks to the movies I have seen hundreds ... is that natural?

What people like you never understand about Hollywood is that, when you're working for Satan, there's no money in Jesus. Next thing you'll be claiming there's something wrong with American children seeing 200,000 violent acts and 16,000 murders on TV by age 18!

I must admit that I can't help myself when I see a biblical movie coming to theatres - I find I'm compelled to go ... despite the fact that most of the time I leave the theatre disappointed and shaking my head in wonder... Anyone see the movie "Noah"??? Mind boggling how they twisted that up! I mean ... Noah had no faith in God!!!
