1 .) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

John10:14) I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

Luke 12:27) Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28 .) If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? 29 .) And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. 30 .) For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. 31 .) But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

2 .) He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

John 10:2) But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.3 .) To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4 .) And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

3 .) He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Hebrews 13:5) Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6 .) So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

5 .) Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Matthew26:19)

And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. 24 .) The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. 25 .) How do you interpret the rod and staff that comforts ?
Just as the shepherd uses a rod and staff to guide the sheep to "go this way, not that way" the Lord shows us and tells us the way to go to peace and comfort.

This is how i understand it to be on my side

a shepherd has a rod and a staff .Note the staff is larger and has a hook but the rod is smaller and is for correcting the sheep in measure

The staff is use to hook us back in the right way and is larger to fight against the wolves

The rod and the staff = God words

Both God the Father and Jesus

Isdaniel, it doesn't say God the Father and Jesus.

Here in bold underline is the name used. Guess what? It isn't Jesus either it is YHVH Yehovah.

You see Isdaniel. The Rabbis taught your translators Hebrew and in doing so they also taught them their tradition of blotting out the name of God with substitutes like Lord, Adonia, God etc etc.

God is not a God who blots out at all, no matter what words you use to express your understanding. Christ did not blot out the Father, and the Father did not blot out Christ. Christ was from the beginning, Christ was there at creation. The Father was part of Christ, the Christ who died for us. Scripture is never for Jews only or for Gentiles only, scripture is for mankind.

From the Complete Jewish Bible........FYI only.......

1 A psalm of David: ADONAI is my shepherd; I lack nothing. 2 He has me lie down in grassy pastures, he leads me by quiet water, 3 he restores my inner person. He guides me in right paths for the sake of his own name. 4 Even if I pass through death-dark ravines, I will fear no disaster; for you are with me; your rod and staff reassure me. 5 You prepare a table for me, even as my enemies watch; you anoint my head with oil from an overflowing cup. 6 Goodness and grace will pursue me every day of my life; and I will live in the house of ADONAI for years and years to come.

Looking at your CJB proves my point. The rabbinical tradition of not pronouncing the name of God is alive and well in your translation as it is in many others. The original Hebrew text as I posted above however doesn't change the 'tetragramatron' YHVH is always there. What they usually do in that case is remove the vowel pointing in the attempt to prevent people from pronouncing it properly. But several people have found proper vowel pointing in the Aleppo codex which brings out Yehovah.

I recommend either a Koren Hebrew/English or a JPS Hebrew/English bible to see for yourself. The English side of the page will have 'Lord' but the Hebrew side of the page has YHVH.

The 'Lord' spoken of in Psalms 23 is Yehovah.

God is God.............Now, if you are led to ONLY use a particular Name, then surely be true to that leading. God is God.

What amuses me is that even with a simple statement of the 23rd Psalm, people can find reason to "dispute." Goodness, is it any wonder that the "harvest" remains plentiful while the "workers" dispute?

God is God

and God bless.........

Well, p_rehbien. It's just that I think it's very important to know which God I pray to. Generic words like 'God', 'Lord', 'Adonai', 'Allah etc etc can lead some to pray to a God other than Yehovah. I just thought some would like to know that when they pray to God His name is not Lord it is the name He gave to Moses, Yehovah.

But feel free to substitute it with anything you like, you're not alone.

May Yehovah bless you

A wise man once said that God is a Spirit, and to worship Him (including praying to Him), we must worship Him in spirit. That same wise man now resides at His Throne serving as an Intercessor for us, and The Holy Spirit serves as our witness.......so, it seems to me that IF we worship God in the spirit of sincere and contrite love, humility, and servitude, He will smile upon us. I know what God I pray to, and just because you choose one name, and I may (at various and sundry times) speak others does not mean it isn't the same God.

Now, certainly, if you believe you must use only the one Name, then by all means do so, but don't hold others accountable to what you are convicted of. God bless

I think you may misunderstood me. I didnt come here to hold you accountable. It was simply a FYI about who the 'lord' is spoken of in the 23rd Psalms. You see during Isaiahs time many, including Israel, were beginning to call the One true God by other names and glorifying others besides Him too.

But He did try to set it straight when He said through His prophet Isaiah: I am Yehovah; that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to carved idols.

Peace p_rehbein.

I noted in the KJV that Yehovah is always all capitals LORD. This is Hebrew Strong's #H3068.

H3068
יהוה
yehôvâh
yeh-ho-vaw'
From H1961; (the) self Existent or eternal

Just in the Old Testament alone you find LORD (Yehovah) 6,521 times.

In the Greek Old Testament Septuagint the "LORD" and "Lord" use the same word and does injustice to the Father's name and makes His Name just a Title.

G2962
κύριος
kurios
koo'-ree-os
From κῦρος kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, that is, (as noun) controller; by implication Mr. (as a respectful title): - God, Lord, master, Sir.

What about Jesus name, can we find His Name also in the Old Testament? Absolutely!

H3444
ישׁוּעה
yeshû‛âh
yesh-oo'-aw
Feminine passive participle of H3467; something saved, that is, (abstractly) deliverance; hence aid, victory, prosperity: - deliverance, health, help (-ing), salvation, save, saving (health), welfare.

Last time for me on this thread. But I wanted to say WomanLovesTX that substitution has occured well over 6,800 times in Tanach (a.k.a. to some as Old Testament)

We now bring you back to your regular scheduled program.
