Nothing could be clearer then the Westminster conf. of faith on "effectual calling". The New Hampshire Baptist Conf.1833 and the Southern Bap. Conf. pages 1197-1201 are not so good, "free will" is replacing God's free GRACE. Wayne Grudem Sys, Theo Bk. Love Hoffco

"Effectual calling" is the way God powerfully calls a sinner making him/her repent of sin and trust in Jesus and beginning a life time of holiness that will lead the sinner to eternal life. Please read Wayne Grudem's sys. theo. pg.s 692-3 It is the Divine Summons to the sinners will, as God births us into his family. The new birth gives us the Father's nature and the call give us the power of will to submit to God as Father, to love God and obey God. I will not leave this subject until I get a group of you who will believe this truth. Love to all,Hoffco

The Bible teaches two kinds of "callings". 1. not effectual "many are called but few are chosen" Mt.22:14 and then there is the "effectual" calling of God to His elect which powerfully saves. 2. Effectual calling, "Paul...called to be an apostle, separated to the Gospel of God"Rom.1:1 (as Jesus "called" the 12 disciples) and as (Paul was forced by God's power to become a follower of Jesus, Acts 9) (as all of God's "elect" are forced to become followers of Jesus, Jh. 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws (forces) him;" the word "draw is used in drawing water out of a well, force. The Christians are "the called of Jesus Christ;"..."called to be saints" Rom.1:6-7 As in Rom.4:17, "God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did." As in Rom.8:28-29,"...called according to His purpose"..."Foreknew...predestined...called,justified,glorified" all this action was done totally by God with no help from the "elect"ones. Thank you, mwc68, for this good question,on effectual calling. I will continue with more passages which teach effectual calling. Pom.9:22-24 "What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much long suffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, And that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy which He had prepared beforehand for glory, EVEN US, who He CALLED, not of the Jews only, but also of the gentiles? There are so MANY verses on the effectual calling of God's saving power. Please read Eph.2:1-10 to see how God saves DEAD sinners. Eph.4:1, 1Cor.1:9,24 1Cor.7:17-18, 20-22 You must see that God has chosen those whom He will save, and He CALLS them to salvation in His own time. Love to all, Hoffco, Ptr. Doug

Why must you think that people should be turned away from doctrine? Is it not for them and The Holy Ghost to decide what is and what was according to The Book of Life. If this scripture is malignant and somehow does not benefit one when reading this then I suggest you take this to the Religious Leaders and have them take it out and put it with the other Books that did not make the Bible.

This is writtin not to attack you but to attack the idea that information of any type to be withheld altered damaged destroyed burned is kind of like backtracking. If we as a collective whole cannot interpret what is not of life but death then surely we have lost our way and God will bring us back eventually like a Shepard looking for his lost sheep.

Think about the context of The Bible when reading ask for guidance from The Holy Ghost and Check yourself. I have been lost in The Bible caught up because of circumstances that where brought on by myself. Basically I did not humble myself and the word becomes not as it should be.

When doing all the things we are suppose to do when reading The Bible, words become life, the meaning becomes relevant, bringing us closer to God.

Thanks.

We are hampered here by the translations that are being used. I am using the surrounding chapters for understanding. Paul is preaching to the church.
He is preaching to the church about the unbelieving world.

A little tweak in your viewpoint, if I may:

Salvation's requirement is faith in the Saviour, Jesus Christ, which is birthed in the heart by Holy Spirit, who quickens the spirit of man to life at that very point in time.
Rebirth, faith, justification are actually all the same event.

We put them in order to relate cause to effect, but it all happens together.

My comment was to make the point that ONLY requirement for salvation is faith to a poster who claimed plural requirements.

Thank you for your SHORT ,to the point comments. Let me try to make again my plea for allowing the Bible to interpret it self. It only takes a 7th grade education to understand the Bible. The biggest downfall in men/women in getting a handle on the Bible is their own self centeredness. They judge the Bible rather than learn it. We should NEVER "boil it down" to the most common denominator, so, simple, sinful minds can accept it, "seeker friendly". The clear teaching, of Genesis thru Revelation is: Salvation is of God's doing; And man's response is: Repent,Trust God, and Obey God,Jesus is God. Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one God with plural personalities, persons. Deut. 6:4 ONE is ACHAD, which means, ONE in PLURALITY. Love to all, Hoffco ps. I have had 8 yrs of college and seminary training ,lic. at one time, fired once, and ordained for the ministry in 2014, on line, and 54 yrs. of studying and preaching God's word; This is to say I am NOT new at this, I have evaluated every opinion, and have self judged my opinion to be God's. But, I am still learning and have never found a group who wants me, so my church is independent. The Grace Fellowship Church, I am the only Elder/Bishop, LOL. To God's GLORY.!

CLASS: Please, that the time to RE_STUDY all the verses on GOD'S effectual CALLING. And Check with the "religious authorities" of yesterday and today. The Westminister Conf. of Faith is the Best., I believe every word of it. John MacArther aad R.C.Sprourl are the best of today. Love to all Hoffco

You must understand that the Eternal covenant of Grace, of Rom. 8:29-30 is made up of five separate events, related to each other by a time and cause and effect manner. To God ,it is one eternal plan, but in its application to the "elect" the Called, justified and glorified events have a time, and a cause and effect relationship. As Paul and all the Bible authors relate Sanctification and Justification have a cause and effect relationship, and, an ONGOING manner also. Sanctification has 3 stages and Justification has 3 stages: past, present and future. 2Thess2:13"...salvation through sanctification of the Spirit..." 3 stages: 1.regeneration, 2. holy living and 3. glorification "...and belief in the truth." "belief" speakes of justification. Justification has 3 stages: 1. Grace 2. Faith 3. Works. The order or cause and effect in salvation is: FIRST, God gives the new birth, the new birth causes us to: repent trust and obey Jesus, for eternal. Love to all, Hoffco

He is preaching to the church about the unbelieving world.

I will enlarge on Elin's good statement. Paul is talking to the Church of God at Rome and relating to them of the sinful world that they have been saved out of and how God has made them a holy, separated people for God's glory, the Church of Jesus Christ. Love to all. hoffco PS> and God is speaking to all who read the book of Romans today. God is still saving sinners the same way.

Paul shows us God's effectual calling in Rom.6:22-23. "But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life." (This is God's action, we are passive, Jesus frees us from our old sinful nature and puts a new nature in so we can live a holy life and gain eternal life by God's working power in us.) This is the free gift mentioned in v.23. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus." Love to all, hoffco

Paul shows us God's holy, powerful, effectual call, in Rom.6:22-23. "But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life." Paul says we will "reap", Gal.6:7-10, eternal life because God made us holy so we will obey Jesus and reap eternal life. Freed from sin and enslaved to God, is the free gift of God so we will gain eternal like at death. Love to all, Hoffco

Paul also shows us God's powerful holy effectual call in Rom.8:2 "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death." SO we are able to keep God's moral laws, "that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who...walk according to the Spirit". 8:4. Love to all, Hoffco
