Are you speaking of the Ten Commandments, or the Law of the First Testament?
If you will forgive me, I like to answer this question, which comes up every so often, like this:

“You know the commandments: `Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.'" Matt 10:19 RSV

Considering you missed context and most of the commandments, no, it isn't a fair answer. (Jesus then told the man who said that he was supposed to sell everything and follow him.)

Here are the real Ten:
1 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
“You shall have no other gods before me.
2 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
3 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
5 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
6 “You shall not murder.
7 “You shall not commit adultery.
8 “You shall not steal.
9 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.”

How do you deal with them? Personally, the only ones I can handle are 7 and 8. The 5th and 10th is really tough, but the first four are just about impossible.

If all we had to do was the Ten Commandments then there was no reason Jesus had to come and die.
But didn't Jesus answer a similar question with these very words?

Its not in my vocabulary to memorize the 10 commandments lol.

It was there for us to realized that we need a Saviour.
When you come right down to it, ten commandments isn't a lot of commandments to remember. And I find that when I don't obey them, trouble lies ahead. Yes, I need a Savior, and a Lord to guide me through life, and forgive me when I don't put forth the necessary amount of effort, and fix the things I've messed up.

And yet if you rob a bank, you'll probably go to prison.
Well, that's the problem with what you are doing, it becomes all about you. But, it's not really about you, it's about others.

By reading what you write. Which is how you think you personally benefit from your law keeping.
I just know that when I obey the Lord's commandments, life is pretty much free of trouble, and when I disobey them, there is a lot of trouble. Is there anything with obeying the Lord's commandments? There aren't that many to follow. Don't commit adultery. Don't steal. Don't kill. Don't bear false witness. Honor your father and mother. Why would you want to disobey any of these?

I am under a higher law. A law that is concerned with others and relieving them of their troubles.

If you murder, commit adultery, bear false witness, steal, or dishonor your parents, you really aren't achieving your goal, are you?

Nope. And not doing those things doesn't achieve it either.

I think you will find that when Jesus said, "Do not commit adultery," he meant it.
What Jesus said was to even look at a women with lust in your heart is to have already committed adultery. How ya doin now?

So you keep the Five Commandments? Because you keep ignoring the hard ones. The ones about trusting God.

And I've seen your advice on how to honor parents -- "You might spend as little time with him as possible until he changes his ways." Is that in the fine print for honoring parents?
