“And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the FEAR of the LORD”—Isaiah 11: 2

The spirit of the fear of God, is the spirit of Holy fear. It is the spirit of good fear. There are devilish fears- which the Lord commands us not to fear: such as the fear of death, sickness, diseases, poverty, devil, witches and wizards, etc…

But on the other right side of fear, there is a kind of fear which the Lord demands of us as his children. And it is the reverential fear of him in everything we do. It can also be explained to mean, respectful fear. That is, you always giving great regard to his position and his feeling in everything you do…

Before you do anything or you are already in the process of doing anything- and you remember God’s position on what you’re doing- as you discover it will offend him, you quickly refrain from it. And on the other hand, if you discover that your doing it will make him happy, you go ahead to do it.

So in other words, the spirit of the fear of God, is the spirit of Holiness; because the scripture says in Proverbs 16:6 that; “By the fear of God men depart from evil.”

And God passionately demands and desires this Holy fear from us (Deuteronomy 5:29). But for us to fear God as he demands and desires of us, we need the empowerment of “The Spirit of the Fear of God.”

Because as a human, it is difficult and almost impossible to fear God that you cannot see with your physical eyes. And that is why Jesus said; “without me you can do nothing” (John 15:5) - and he also says; “with men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible” –Mark 10: 27.

So What Are The Benefits Of The Fear Of God

So why does God want us to fear him? God does not expect you to do anything for nothing according to Job 1:8-9.
When we live continually in the fear of God, we enjoy the following benefits amongst so many others…

  1. Supernatural Wisdom (Prov. 1:7, Job 28:12-17; Job 28:28)
  2. Wealth and Riches (Ps. 112:1-3; Job 22:23-25; Prov. 22:4-5)
  3. All-Round supernatural protection (Job 1:9-10)
  4. Trans-Generational blessings (Deut 5:29)
  5. Supernatural Enthronement or lifting (Gen 39:8-9; Dan 1:8)
  6. Length of days or longevity of life (Prov 10:27)

How Then Do I Continually Live In The Fear Of God?

Having known and understood all these benefits that accrue the fear of God, how can someone continually live in the fear of God all his life?

  1. Thirst for the spirit of the fear of God (Matt 5:6; John 7:37)
  2. Ask or pray for the spirit of the fear of God daily (Jer 32:40)
  3. Through daily word study and meditation (Deut 4:10)
  4. Through consistent fasting and prayers (58: 6, 8)
  5. By lovely Rebuke of sin (Eph 5:10-11; Eph 5:13)

I have and still pass through the above steps to receive the spirit of the fear of God. And on one particular occasion, as I studied my bible, I received this spirit as a special anointing from God (and when that happened, I had a strong, tangible knowing in my spirit). And I treasure it as one of my best spiritual gifts.

And that is why I know that if you will open your heart today, and desire this gift from God, God will give it to you as soon as possible in the name of Jesus Christ!

Prophetic Declarations

  1. I decree the baptism of the spirit of the Fear of the Lord upon you right now, in the Name Of Jesus!
  2. From today, that heart of stone in you becomes a heart of flesh, in the Name of Jesus!
  3. From now onwards, that dead conscience comes alive by the power of the Holy Ghost, in the mighty Name of Jesus!

If you said amen to these prophetic declarations above, I’m certain that a special transformation has taken place in your life already.

Congratulations! And remain blessed eternally, In Jesus Mighty, Matchless Name!

I won't even use that word the translators so abused. I say, "Awe and Reverence."

Correct, Emekrus. Jesus also told people that they should not fear man who can torture and kill the body but afterwards do nothing, but rather to fear God who can destroy BOTH body and soul in hell.

It's the exact same word for fear in both sentences, and the context is clear.

People who do not fear God, should worry.

People who actually experience fear of our creator and savior should worry. They have missed what Jesus taught.

If I were you, I will take it the way it is and not try to water it down for my own good.
Pardon me. Neither you nor I know "the way it is." Because neither you nor I, nor anyone living today, has ever read "the Bible" as it was compiled.

And a reading of the Bibles we have today show us that this cannot mean to quake in fear of the one who made us.

The Scriptures say that it is the fear of the Lord that men depart from evil. So what sounds like it makes more sense? That men departed evil out of some reverence for God or because they actually feared the Lord? I would say it is the fear of the Lord because men do not want to persih in the Lake of Fire or face the Judgment of God so they accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. In fact, we see this in the story of Rahab. She was in fear of God's Judgment that was going to come upon her town (Just like all the other ones). This is why she sided with the Lord. She feared God. For how can perfect love cast out fear make any sense if it is not really talking about fear? Does one cast out reverence and respect for God and exchange that for Love? That doesn't make any sense.

I think the idea of our relationship with The Lord is that "We love Him because He first loved us." Not because we are afraid He is going to squash us.

Yes the bible says fear the Lord our God because our soul is in jeopardy by where we place our faith.....

If we place our faith in the Lord then by love we overcome that fear, because love does on wrong to self and others to make one worry rather or not they are headed to eternal life or eternal death. For if you are walking properly in the faith there is no need to fear the second death, as it has no power over you.

If however you are contentious and disobedient to the word (gospel) then fear still remains, because as Hebrews 10 states there no longer remains a sacrifice for you but a fearful expectation of facing judgment and sent to the lake of fire.

It amazes me how so many are in doctrines now days that teach a be disobedient and still receive salvation gospel that is not supported by the bible !!!

Good point, Jason. But allow me to encourage you to study 1 John chapter 3 with this in mind, but especially the starting from verse 11:

The whole point about "perfect love casts out fear", does not have to do with the fear of God (which is fine, but not what the author is addressing), but how the saints should be acting toward ONE ANOTHER.

Try this: The apostle John is saying to us, and I'll use myself for this example, "Perfect love <from Todd> casts out fear <in Jason>."

Thus, we are exhorted to truly, show love and demonstrate it to the brethren, such that they are not filled with fear of confessing their sins, and are able to feel safe in our midst, because we would never cause them harm. More so, we do this by admitting to one another, that we are just as bad, or worse (I'm chief of sinners!) to help the saints to be at ease, and bringing them into true Love of God.

Now, when you read 1 John 3 again, keep this in mind and you will see the whole chapter is dealing with the activities and behavior of the saints toward one another.

Look at the 3 verses immediately after "perfect love casts out fear". It all has to do with the CHURCH, which is His people.

1Jn 4:19 We love, because He first loved us.
1Jn 4:20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.
1Jn 4:21 And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also.

When it says that The Lord has not given us a spirit of timidity, that is with regard to the thing the Lord would appoint for us to do. Such as if you were commanded to go against the Philistines, do not be afraid. It is NOT with regard to fearing God. We are to fear God. That is why Paul said to us, "Work out our salvation with fear and trembling." We know we have grace, wonderful grace, and yet, the Law speaks clearly on how our conduct should be, as a tutor, clearly identifying sinful behavior.

So we wish to experience the grace of God, but at the exact same time, not ignore the commands of Christ and the Law.

We do not find salvation through the Law, but we do not toss it in the trash, either.

Do you honestly believe you received Salvation because you were properly obedient, and that you somehow earned it through your actions? Because that is what you sound like you are saying.

No, You received Salvation "while you were yet a sinner" (fully engaged in living a life opposed to God.) It was given to you before you did a thing....... all you had to do was believe, and pick it up.

Did I say I earned it ???

No I did not those are your words and not mine, as I state that by love comes obedience !!!

We receive assurance of receiving salvation by continuing to keep the faith in the Lord.
There is absolutely no scripture that says salvation is an immediate actual physical possession of ours right now. Apostle Paul clearly says over 15 times we hope for, seek for, and continue in the faith to receive eternal life.

(1 Thessalonians 5:8, Romans 2:7, Romans 13:11, 1 Timothy 4:8, 1 Timothy 6:12-19, 2 Timothy 2:10, Titus 1:2, Titus 3:7)

Here is 8 places where Apostle Paul shows it is a mental assurance of receiving it based on them keeping themselves in the faith of Christ, and Paul shows that a true faith is an active faith full of the fruits of the Spirit.

You are speaking on Acts 2:41 where 3,000 people accepted the gospel of Christ and got baptized (H2O) in His name.

Then we must keep reading on to verse 42 where it says they "continued" in the doctrine and fellowship.
The key word once again in this passage is that they continued in the faith, and part of that faith is keeping and following the teachings/instructions from the scriptures out of love.

Once again the Lord Jesus gives 3 parts to "believe in Him."
1) Come to Him 2) Hear what He says 3) Do what He said (Luke 6:46-49)

Friend, there are many Holy Scripture in the New Covenant/Testament for Christian to 'practice' and 'abide; and 'bear much fruit' and 'your fruit shall abide' to 'fear' GOD and not men.

As it is written;

"Workout your Salvation in 'fear' and trembling."

Who are you 'representing' and 'witnessing' here when this is a CHRIST given 'Bible Discussion Forum'?

You do not have the 'fear' of GOD of JESUS, you are actually 'living' in 'lawlessness' in the 'time' of 'unmerited favor' from 'picked' and 'chose' Holy Scripture to 'suit' your 'partially' carnal/flesh/self's passions and desires 'lifestyle'.

The 'LORD' have already said about 'lukewarm' lifestyle, 'neither here or there' and HE will to 'spit' them all out unless?

Repent!

GOD the FATHER of our LORD JESUS CHRIST forgive you and bless you with 'spiritual understanding to Spiritual Word/Teaching of the New Covenant/Testament' of GOD from Heaven, through the 'spiritual Manna' who came down from Heaven, HE is the 'MESSIAH', now called LORD JESUS CHRIST, and 'HIS Kingdom will never end', as Angel Gabriel 'proclaimed the Word of GOD', to 'virgin Mary' on that 'day'.

I understand fearing him as in respect and as willie T put it so well to be in awe and reverence. How can I fear one whom I adore and treasure so dearly? who has always been there for me even when I screwed up so badly and deserved his rebuke when instead he encouraged me to keep going and to be strong? Who I can go to without any fear or trembling for anything I need who i can pour my heart out even in anger and not be struck with lightning where I stand yet instead receive grace and the willingness to help me?

you say I should fear this beloved father of mine?

Are 'both of you' trying to to be 'smart' than the 'written and established Covenant' Holy Scripture of 'faith Spiritual knowledge', from LORD JESUS CHRIST?

how can a man who is even the the smartest of all men outwit the written word? your response is in bad taste you assume we are trying to out smart the written word of God simply because we have a different view of the scriptures? Be quick to listen and slow to speak

The fear the bible is talking about is for those who do not put their full faith and trust in the Lord.
If you are living a luke warm life style trying to serve both Him and flesh then judgment and the lake of fire still awaits, which is why it says do not fear man who can only kill the body but can not kill the soul. But fear Him who can destroy both !!!

The fear is all about what will happen if one is not being obedient to the word out of love for the Lord, we overcome that fear through love because love does no wrong to self and others. Therefore love fulfills all things and there is no need to look at being judged if you are walking in love !!!
