Man...so many opinions.

The reason for tongues is its the language of the Spiritual man. The environment is worship. The natural man has a natural language and the mind is hostile to the things of God. Is what the scripture says.

All things are new for the new creation; its a new genesis. Of course a spiritual person will speak out of what we are now.

The gift of tongues is not the prayer language. The gift is when a message to the fellowship of believers from
God is given, and they speak in the spiritual language with power. Then one who has the gift of interpretation, interprets.

Timidity is a big influence on some and is probably the reason why interpretations aren't given.

So prophecy which again is a message of Spirit to the fellowships from God, is given in power out of their natural language.

You can tell when one is praying in power and spirit. Or prophesying for that matter.

I don't think there is false tongues in any believer but one can speak at any time without it being anointed. Its the anointing that is Spirit and power. When its touched so to speak by Holy Spirit.

Those in the occult may speak of demonic influence I guess. Ive never seen this but Ive heard they do.

So why do you pray? You want something? You seem to think you are all these things BC you don't 'ask' for more but you do ask BC you said you pray.... self righteous.. Praying and asking are all over the Bible.. As well as receiving.. if you don't want, cool.. Sit with what little you think is best.. I'll take up everything He rose for..
I like your style. :)

Self righteous, NO, I have no righteousness, except that the Holy Spirit lives with in me as He does in ALL born again believers. Anything good that I do is not me but the Holy Spirit.
My prayers are about thanksgiving for God's love, grace and mercy and yes, I do ask for forgiveness, understanding, and for Him to bless others.
I also ask that He use me as He sees best.
What I don't understand is why you need a prayer language, or that you believe you are blessed more that me because you speak in tongues.
I just don't understand why tongues are necessary.

An old friend of my hubby was (may still be) a missionary in Kenya. Something about Africa today that is different than North America. The gifts are as evidential there as they were in The Acts of the Apostles. People are being healed at astonishing rates. And, and the funny thing is this old friend was a cessationist. One day two of the guys in her service started yelling in tongues. NOT COOL! What should he do to silence them?

He was still thinking that out when someone in the back began to interpret. Ends up the two guys shouting were speaking in a tribal tongue from another part of the continent. The truth was also they didn't speak that language. The guy in the back did, so he translated. Yup. It was a word of encouragement to both the church and the guy in the back visiting.

Don't believe in tongues or do. Just know what you believe doesn't change what God does.
If it is genuinely validated via tape recordings that it was a known language and that unbelievers heard the mighty works of GOD in their native language, you may have an example of GOD choosing to make an exception. If not, it was just another example of pagan style ecstatic utterances. Those ecstatic utterances continue today in non-Christian religions that include Hinduism, Muslims, and even Mormons, as well as several others. Here is an online article about the Pagan Origin of Charismatic Tongues. The Pagan Origins of Modern “Speaking in Tongues” | Doctrine Unites!

I want to warn everyone, if studying this subject causes you to think or feel less LOVING towards your Charismatic Brothers and Sisters, ABANDON studying and discussing this Tongues subject immediately. Maintaining Christian LOVE for one another is infinitely MORE IMPORTANT than this subject EVER WAS.

How would I handle that situation. I actually had to in one of my Chapel Services in a California Super Max Prison. First of all, I think it is wise not to draw any more attention to it than necessary, but it cannot be totally ignored either, especially in Prison where what is a minor disagreement here, can in irrupt into into a full blown inmate on inmate fight with weapons, in an instant. One Sunday, I had a Pentecostal on the back row with no warning, stand and speak in his ecstatic tongues, followed by his own supposed interpreting of what he said. As soon as he finished, I stated, "That was an example of what the Pentecostals call tongues. However, most of the mainline Churches do not believe they are the Genuine Gift of Tongues. We will not be doing that here anymore, because Prison Staff has given me strict instructions about staying away from denominational barriers; and that is a major denominational barrier. If anyone wants to know more about the Pentecostal Tongues, talk to him; and if anyone wants to know more about why most Churches do not believe in it, make an appointment and come talk to me in my Office." He came up to me after the Service and asked, "I still do not know what is wrong with my speaking in tongues, after all it is in the Bible?" I said, "Well for one thing, it says in the bible not to do it when the interpreter is not present." And he popped back, "But I have the gift of interpretations too, and I interpreted it." So I said, "Oh, so you have the gift of Interpretations?" AND THEN I immediately said to him in TURKISH, "Hello, how are you?" His only reply was "HUH?"

First, any good you do is BC of the Holy Spirit, it is not Him doing it. Demons make people do things the HS does not posses and do things with us.. 2, I don't think I'm better, I know I'm wanting to be closer.. Relationship is established by desire to be close. If someone doesn't recognize a move or work of God thats BC they don't know Him in that way.. I know my mom so I know her personality BC I'm close. If she says something i can laugh or know 'youre in for it' .. Someone who hasn't spent time with her doesn't know the difference.. Tongues, I'm yielded to the Spirit, and sometimes I get songs and sometimes they come out in English..It builds me up. We are spirit.. I like to live as such.. If you don't want them, don't want them..

Did you research to get that fact?? Get out of town.. We live as a spirit being.. Not in books and intelligence.. You think God is bound to your reading? Even the Bible is hidden to folks..

Like I said, I researched the Charismatic Experience, comparing it to what the Bible said the Apostles did, and found it to be an imitation of what the Apostles did, by testing it via what the Scriptures actually said. AFTER THAT, then I started searching to find out what it really was, and found it to be identical to what was practiced in the Greek Mystery Religions.

My wife was raised Pentecostal, and started studying what the Bible actually said the Apostles did, and thereby she came to the conclusion that it was NOT what the Apostles did, and therefore was a counterfeit, which caused her to leave the Pentecostal Church at least 40 years ago, or more; before I met her in the fall of 1978.

The Pentecostal experience will not withstand a genuine test of the Scriptures. That is what we believe and teach. It does not bother us one bit that you believe something else. It is a very minor subject and no one should get mad or in an argument about it.

and simply also, if God gave the gift of tongues and He did, then faith assures us it is very valuable to the believer who receives that particular Gift. the tounges of angels who always see the face of God << definately spiritual power therin, ordained of the Word. My mom fels much as you do, she goes in private at times and speaks in tounges and whatever weakness she was struggling with, or doubts, or issues of whatever Kind, are no longer a struggle for Her. I really shouldnt be speaking about tongues because i dont fully understand because oi havent received that one, I suppose if Godwills, i will, but i know that My mom is probably the most godly woman ive ever Known in word and deed as she has grown into a true Child of God, and she treasures the gifts of God and praises Him for them :) i also like ur style btw haha God bless and press on sista

Matthew 13 “Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
“ ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[SUP]a[/SUP]

16But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
18“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 22The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

Tho the context addresses this to unbelievers, sadly today many believers are in this same boat.

You naysayers have convinced me. There are no tongues, there is no prophecy. I've begun to modify my Bible to reflect this amazing truth:

Tongues no more.jpg

You know, once I get done redacting all the parts that no longer apply, my Bible is going to be a much faster read!

It will read " there is no condemnation"

2 thessolonians 2:6-7 "And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

You know as I've been going thru and crossing out scriptures I've noticed these little tiny footnotes that I'd never seen before. I guess I must not have been reading the Word as closely as I had thought. But they sure clear up a lot for me.

Tongues no more 2.jpg

When I found them in the back of the Book, here's what this footnote read:

"N21 Offer expires with publication of Canon
"

You said she was raised in the Pentecostal church but you didn't say if she spoke in tongues. Did she?
Yes, for many years she spoke in what they called tongues, from childhood on, and became convinced it was all a counterfeit when she started seriously studying the Bible for herself. Like I said, that happened before I even met her; and her sisters still wanted to blame me for leading their sister astray. They were high on the Benny Hinn hype, and wanted her to watch him too. She said it made her sick to her stomach, to even try to watch that guy for a few minutes. I have no room to talk though, as shortly before that, I was hooked on watching Kenneth Copeland. It took me at least six months to see through his religious con-game. Now to my surprise, I discovered both Jimmy Swaggert, and Peter Popoff are back on TV after being exposed as Religious Con-Artists, years ago.

But you miss one important point... satan will never glorify God. That is one of the test of the gifts - do they ultimately glorify God.

A tongues speaker who glorifies himself is false.

A tongues speaker who glorifies the church is false.

A tongues speaker who glorifies the gift is false.

But a tongues speaker who glorifies God meets the test.

satan or the flesh will be behind the first three. But never the fourth.

And yeah bro I can't wait until it's all over and over a glass of wine laugh at all this debating! :)
Mark 5:7 (HCSB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] And he cried out with a loud voice, “What do You have to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You before God, don’t torment me!”

Like Dave Hunt used to say, "I fear that if a witch doctor dressed up in a suit and tie, toted a Bible, and spoke in tongues, many of you would listen to him preach all day long."

Thank you! I hope you receive them!!! I wanted them but didn't understand either. I had obstacles to overcome and fears about Tongues but once I learned about them I felt more assured and confident.. Wasn't too long after that I received them.. The Holy Spirit guides us in all truth, I pray He start your journey with Tongues..
