Also, I know 2 people who speak in tongues on a regular basis, husband and wife. They cannot understand each other, and both have told me that they speak between God and themselves. Not ALL tongues can be interpreted......and they told me that at their church, nobody interprets their tongues or anyone else's. They have told me that each speak in their "own" tongues, and that is why you hear so many different tongues....they don't all speak the same, like everyone speaking a language like English, German, Russian, etc. They all sound differently. The husband does not speak the same as his wife, and not two people in their church speak the same "tongue" language. So, there is no interpretation.

In a large church service there was a man preaching with a lot of conviction. In the 3rd Isle from the back a man was speaking in "tongues" which I thought was weird since it seemed to be a bit of distraction from the preaching. At the end of the service he was approached by the man in front iof him. I assumed a polite "keep quiet during service" was coming, instead the man asked where the tongues speaking man was from. He was local, and the next question was inquiring about the dialect of French that the man was speaking. The tongue speaking man said he knew nothing of the language he was speaking, that this was his Spirit filled language. As it turned out the man was a linguistics prof at the local university, he had been invited to church several times and declined, but for some unknown reason, accepted this time based on the guest speaker that week. He understood every word that the tongues were saying and translated to say that prior to a passage being called out by the Pastor/Minister this man was saying it in french, and then professing how holy God is and how true His word is.......

I know this sounds far fetched but I have seen and heard things like this many times over and it reaffirms my "disbelief" or "doubts"....IT STRENGTHENS my faith as a believer....I can imagine what a non-believer might think....

Hi Machine - I am sure you will hear more of these stories. But really, this does not detract from the fact that this is not scriptural and Jesus never did it. I can prove that it is unscriptural fairly easily but for your reference and study here is the proof.

The Pentecostals, when pressed and honest, will admit that Jesus never did this. As has been seen in Acts 2:11 the gift of speaking in tongues is speaking about the works of God. Their only response is that of their experience and what it meant to them.

So basically we all have to decide to adhere to the Bible or not.

Remember the possessed woman who followed the Apostle telling those around Him that He was a messenger from God.

Ac 16:16 ¶ As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by soothsaying.
Ac 16:17 She followed Paul and us, crying, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation."
Ac 16:18 And this she did for many days. But Paul was annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, "I charge you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And it came out that very hour.
Ac 16:19 But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the market place before the rulers;

There are many unscriptural experiences in the world.

The following is from post 65 by Praus - it is an amazing video and describes the Pentecostal experience and the associated abuses well.

I don't endorse the condemnation of our deceived brothers and sisters in Christ however. But this mysticism is demonic.
