Because in words there are thought and those thoughts convey ideas, and they are either of God or are not. We don't just offer God strange fire in our praise and in our approach of Him. You cannot tell me a thing about Jesus without it being theological or doctrinal, true, or false.

its not a bible study..........
Perhaps in praise there should be more reverence on your part? Your statement is quite flippant about the whole thing. It's troubling.

i listen to wicked worldly music anyway so i have no understanding here lol
Is your "lol" conveying flippancy on your part? I'd say respectfully, yes, it is.

You're arguing something here that you shouldn't be, and you're admitting to it?

Something is sorely amiss here, you have no dog in this fight.

I pray God takes you from the influences of the wicked music you give ear to. As of now, you have no part in determining if praise should be, or doesn't need to be doctrinally sound. Something has you influenced in the wrong way, and your offhand attitude about it all is frankly a bit concerning.

Why don't you just ignore it. You reply wasn't very gracious or peaceful. Ironic isn't it? It's biblical music so technically it probably falls under bible discussion some how. All the other crazy post that are in here surely you can endure one about theologically sound Christian music that is in no way controversial or causing people to fight and argue about who is right?
So another thread without any Biblical content?

Because you keep talking about things needing to be Biblical (I agree!) but we have yet to see you post a single verse to let us know what you think is Biblical.

When Sovereign Grace or Preacher4Truth, or Stephen63 or DesertRose any one of many people post about needing things to be "biblical," I know where they are coming from. Because they engage in the discussions and post Scriptures, defend doctrines, etc etc.

But as for you - I would really like to understand your definition of Biblical. Perhaps you could participate in some of the threads, and then we can learn what is Biblical for you.

I don't say this to disparage you. There are many in this world who claim to be Biblical, but they throw things out of the Bible they don't like. Or they add to it. Or they have never read the bible through, or studied it. And that is not wrong, if they are new Christians! Of course, they need time to learn and grow. If that is where you are at, it would be nice to know.

On the other hand, if you have some definite ideas about what Biblical music sounds like, then let us know. Posting Scriptures would really help. Or posting songs that have Scriptures or good doctrine.

"Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things. 9 Do what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you." Phil. 4:8-9

As for music, I have a large collection of contemporary music of psalms put to music. I love any music that incorporates the words of the Bible in them.

That would be a waste of time seeing how you've dismissed my previous response.

............. you could shout Hallelujah for 50 minutes and its praising, 0 doctrine.
Really? What does "Hallelujah" actually mean when someone is saying it?

as for my offhand attitude.......... i know worldly music isnt good, but i also know its not forbidden in the bible
You show how immature you are in the faith -- Hebrews 5:14ff. Go read it.

Or, perhaps you are not claiming to be in the faith. Do you profess being a Christian???

Those who have exercised this and are mature in the faith do not need a verse to tell them that "WICKED MUSIC" is wrong. And is it not interesting, you named it thus, but say it isn't forbidden in the Bible, yet, know it is "WICKED" yet you "need a verse"?

Talk about self-deception. Unbelievable.

Hello, Angela.
It's been awhile, l hope all is well.

I'm not sure if you follow BDF posts closely but you chose a person that finds it cool to talk down to a lot of people...women (even our Sis, Ellie)

People like this may present scripture, but its hard to take it in, or believe they are truly worried about ones salvation... when they act like self righteous prophets sent by God to slap sense into us pathetic sinners.

Oh...right...real quick...I know they love scripture, so l'm going to throw out a couple of my faves.

Romans 12:3
1 Corinthians 13:2

We all know a few people that come here just to say things like "l'm tired if dealing with the ignorant people here"
Yes, simply because they are "tired" of dealing with a handful of people...they believe its justifiable to act like that.

Wow. ....isn't....this...a ....Christian...with love...idk?

Man...let's thank God that they're not in God's position . He's been dealing with billions of people for thousands of years.
If they get this nasty over a few they deem "stupid" in one little forum , imagine how they would act if they were in charge of billions of souls? :(

Now you're getting more out of control. I've never judged your salvation.

I imagine phrases like "Biblically Sound" will always make me sadly shake my head at the thinking behind them.

But here is one of the most God-honoring songs I have ever heard.

Angela53510 made a nice post commending others, and it is Christ like and loving.

Obviously you have disdain in your heart for a "fellow believer" and had to draw that good post into something negative due to this. Your post is more a commentary on your spiritual state than upon another.

With all due respect your post is nothing less than gossip, sowing discord and causing division.

It's unnecessary.

If you have a problem with "someone" then go to "them" or keep it to yourself. Nothing you've stated is even substantiated, it's mere gossip. There is no reason to attempt to cause another to join you, feel you, nor is it necessary take an opportunity to attempt to slam "a person" as you are doing.

Let's be fair now, not all hymns are biblically sound. A fair number were created on old bar drinking songs.

Martin Luther was pretty well known for taking tavern songs and turning them into hymns. I don't think there is anything wrong in converting secular songs into spiritual songs. Even some popular songs can be seen as spiritual "You'll Never Walk Alone", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", even the movie Sister Act had the nuns sing "I Will Follow Him" as a spiritual song. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. I just don't know why we can't mix the sacred and profane. I think it is kind of a good thing to find something sacred in things that are profane. If you see things with a Christian filter, then you can find little bits of the sacred in many things- like in movies where a character sacrifices himself for others and things like that.

I'm probably way off base, though. It's just my opinion.
