I am just starting to study on the subject of the elect.
Because in some understanding this would mean that some believers are held in a special position that other believers aren't.
And to me there are the scriptures that say there is no difference between Jew or Greek ( gentile ) now, and that God shows no personal favoritism. Yet we still read of the 144,000 that come back with the Lord in Revelation, and as I would love to be one of those 144,000 I know I will not for I am not from one of the twelve Jewish tribes.
that would be to the christain jews and christain gentiles, ie believers in jesus christ.

because of the the paramount of jesus. not law.

John 10:27-28
[SUP]27 [/SUP]My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
[SUP]28 [/SUP]And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Do His sheep follow Him in order to become His sheep/become saved or BECAUSE they are His sheep/are saved? We become His sheep by believing in Him John 3:15,16,18; 5:24; 6:40,47; 11:25,26 (cause). His sheep hear His voice, He knows them, they follow Him (effect). Are you suggesting that we should put the cart before the horse and reverse cause and effect?

Position in the Kingdom of God may not be based on physical lineage, but obedience to God:
And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land:...Ex.12:48

And it shall come to pass,*that*ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn among you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel. Eze.47:22

The tribes of Israel will consist of both Jew and gentile and obedience seems to play a part in which lot each person will be cast.

Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out:...Rev.3:12

Luke 6:46-49
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

When are people going to realize that doing what the Lord told us to do out of love for Him work hand and hand with that salvation?
Do believers do what the Lord tells them to do out of love for Him BECAUSE they are saved or in order to become saved? Are we saved through believing in Him (John 3:15,16,18; 5:24; 6:40,47; 11:25,26) or by accomplishing a lifetime of doing the things which the Lord says to do? Many people set out to do the latter without the former. So which is cause and which is effect? What is the root of salvation and what is the fruit? Are we saved by good works or FOR good works?

Nothing arbitrary in there. I am talking about facts from the Word of God. And reason, you say? Well, maybe for your reason the Word of God does not make the "sense" you think it should make to have it fit in with your logic.
God's word makes perfect sense to me. Your interpretation of it doesn't

Fact is: God choose the nation of Israel before all other nations...He excluded the pagan nations from His sovereign choice and choose Israel only.
That's what Jews believe and it isn't true:

Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham,*are theyall children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. Ro.9:7

Does that make God arbitrary choosing some above others for no reason?
God doesn't choose for a reason unknown to us. God chooses people of faith:

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. Gal.3:7

Fact again: millions of people will die not hearing the gospel. Does that make God arbitrary in not choosing them to hear the gospel?
The Bible says some people who have never heard the gospel can be saved:

Have to finish later.

The gross misunderstanding that floats around this forum is by those that do not have an understanding of works and wrongly think that if one does any work then he is trying to earn his salvation. This error is what gives birth to more
error as 'faith only'.
Yeah, Paul got it wrong in Eph 2:8-9.

Was Peter saved when he

1. Denied the Lord three times? YES
2. Got rebuked by Paul for his hypocrisy? YES

Was PAUL saved when he wrote under inspiration that he was the NUMBER ONE CHIEF SINNER AMONG MEN...YES

DUDE you can forget it...YOUR COC doctrine will lead you to hell as WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS DO NOT SAVE....NEITHER DOES YOUR COC immersion!

SO....keep trusting in your works, immersion and CAMPBELLITE doctrine!

Neither Peter nor Paul was saved before doing works of righteousness.

1 Jn 3:10 "...whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God...."

That is nowhere in the NT.

That is false doctrine.

I have a question of what makes us think that we can save ourselves? Was the Work of Jesus not enough? And why do we have a problem with God having an "elect" when in the OT Israel was God's elect and we are ok with that? Since we are now under the New Covenant can God not have an elect anymore? Do we really believe in the Sovereignty of God or do we only believe it when it fits our need or desire?

Just a few thoughts.
"Save yourselves from this untoward generation." Acts 2:40; "in doing this thou shalt both save thyself" 1 Tim 4:16; "work out your own salvation" Phil 2:12; "Seeing ye have purified your souls" 1 Pet 1:22; "let us cleanse ourselvesfrom all filthiness of the flesh and spirit" 2 Cor 7:1; "Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts" James 4:8.

Verses as the ones listed above clearly show man has a role in his own salvation.

Salvation is based on obeying what God said so man's role is in obeying and those men that obey are in that sense saving themselves. hey are not saving themselves by themselves but are saving themselves by taking advantage of what Christ did on the cross for them. Christ died for every man (Heb 2:9) but every man will not be saved for every man will not "save himself" by doing what Christ said to do, Lk 6:46.

God has an elect, the GROUP CHRISTIAN and those that obey the gospel then are added to that elect group by God.

It's a shame that we think so highly of ourselves as a creation that we can save ourselves. If it wasn't for God's grace would we ever turn to God...nope. Then w
hy do we need to think we can work at our Salvation
. Again we think too highly of ourselves.
We don't work at our salvation.
It's a done deal by true faith.

But in love for God, we do work at sanctification, through the obedience of faith
by the power of the Holy Spirit, transforming us into the image of Christ.

Exactly! Because we follow Christ we will do these things but they don't save us.

So one can disobey, refuse to do what Christ said and still be saved anyway, Lk 6:46?

Yeah, Paul got it wrong in Eph 2:8-9.
No doubt...and John as well...even Jesus must have been confused as well.....like I said...when you have a person who follows Campbell instead of Christ....I guess we should expect someone who trusts into their own abilities and their cultic immersion and traditions of men......It is rather simplistic for sure......Going to be a lot of people who got wet and worked their way straight to the proverbial lake-o-fire for sure as a gospel of a different kind has no ability to save as it has been tainted by lies and heresy for sure.

We are saved by the blood of Christ we are being sanctified by the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We still have a creature responsibility to obey the moral laws of God and the commandments given to us by Jesus. We are not saved by our works or sanctified by our works. Our works come about by us wanting to obey God.

"work out your own salvation" Phil 2:12
Nothing quite like jerking things out of context.

Work out, show forth in your life what God has worked within, per the next verse, Php 2:13.

By us saying we can save ourselves by our works removes the words of Jesus when He said "It is finished". When Jesus said those words did He mean it's finished but you still have to work to be saved? I think not! He said "It is finished" because he paid the FULL price for our sins. Our works do not "wash" over us...the blood of Christ washes over us.

"work out your own salvation" Phil 2:12

Funny how you will quote a little statement to prove your heretical stance.....

NOT BY WORKS OF RIGHTEOUNESS WHICH WE HAVE DONE......
IT IS THE GIFT of GOD...NOT OF WORKS
BELIEVE AND THOU SHALT BE SAVED
IF YOU CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH AND BELIEVE WITH THINE HEART
WHOSOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM IS NOT PERSHING BUT IS HAVING EVERLASTING LIFE

Good luck with your Campbellite doctrine in the day of your judgment and Jesus says...I NEVER KNEW YOU as YOU CLAIM ALL THE WONDERFUL works that YOU HAVE done while claiming your right to enter the Kingdom!
