This time I've read your full post. And there is a connection, but it is still an indirect connection. Wormwood symbolizes bitterness. Sure, adultery can be bitter. So it's always a possibility that it's connected with the wormwood in Revelation. But it could also be connected to something else that is bitter. Maybe since it's a punishment it's just saying the punishment is bitter. Or maybe it really is bitter water the people are drinking. If so this would be the closest connection wormwood would have with adultery. It would be like the people had committed adultery so God was giving them bitter water to drink as a curse. However, the results are not the same as when a woman drank the cursed water. When the woman drank the cursed water her thigh would rot and her stomach would swell. But the people in Revelation are dying.


I don't know what exactly the wormwood in Revelation is supposed to represent. But maybe if I can get some questions answered it would help. So let's first start with what we know:

1. Here the punishment of the people is a curse in the form of Wormwood.
2. Wormwood is symbolic of bitterness.
3. An adulterous woman who drank bitter water would receive a curse.
4. If we stick with the analogy, the disobedience of the people seems to be adultery and the punishment for this adultery would be the bitter water that brings a curse (Wormwood then being specifically the curse).
5. So a curse is placed on the waters.
6. The waters don't seem to be symbolic of people, because regular people are differentiated from the water.

In short, Wormwood is the punishment of the people for their disobedience it seems. And that disobedience might be adultery. I'd still like to see how adultery could possibly be the punishment instead of the cause that brings it. If we look closer, though, we can see why the star is named Wormwood:

Revelation 8:11 the name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter.

No one's ever shown how Wormwood is symbolic of adultery but only bitterness. I think that much is apparent. If the Bible talks about adultery being bitter or like wormwood you'll have a better case. In fact it's entirely possible for someone who has had no training in obedience to God's laws in this licentious modern world to put their impulses first and give in to adultery. Then the situation could be that those who don't hold themselves to a stricter standard by obeying God's laws are more impulsive and more easily overcome and their punishment then being adultery. But I don't see the connection in Revelation yet.

Jesus came to fulfill the law, not to do destroy it, for if He did destroy it, he'd be destroying Himself. The Law was made to be broken, YES, God intend for us to break the Law, so that we could see our sinfulness and our failed efforts in keeping it. The Law is Christ, for we can not keep the Law perfectly but Christ did, which is why we need faith and need to abide in Him every waken moment.

First off only one person "kept the torah" and his name is Jesus Christ, my knowledge and belief in Him does not save me. My attempt to "keep the torah" does not save me. God saved humanity without the help of anyone. Nothing I say or do can change God and his salvation of humnanity. I can turn from hatred and evilness and follow Jesus in love or I can remain in hatred and evilness perishing from his presense. The choice is the same for all humanity.
This precept that I must keep the torah as defined by some cult is not from God. God does not hide in a corner and reveal his truth to a few, rather God shines forth his gospel to all world. Obedience to God is believing in the one whom He has sent. If you want to 'keep the torah" as you believe God has revealed it to you, then keep it and do not stumble for to you it would be sin. But I would rebuke you if you demanded others to follow your cultic faith as being the only way to God. Jesus Christ is the only way to God. No observance of some set of rules can save you. God is our salvation, not some cults interpretation of scripture.

Does the following, from Romans 8, tell you anything at all? Rom 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

What does anyone suppose it is to not live after the flesh? What is it to mortify the body?

Living after the spirit nullifies living after the flesh, and the new nature filled by the Holy Spirit gives the grace and ability to combat those desires of the flesh, that is, every form of lust. The grace is to compensate for all the times we weaken, trusting Yeshua to complete our perfection, for no man can perfect himself.

Mortifying the body is much as mentioned already however the only reference any human has for mortifying one's body would be the law, no longer having power over us, but we have gained because of the defeat of its curse, death. Death has lost its sting.

If you are truly in Messiah, you already know your greatest desire is to please Him, for we are to love no one and nothing above Him, not ever ourselves. Thus that new spiritual nature we have recevied gives us the all consuming desire to please Him by being as His Example for us in obeying those laws as best possible, knowing their curse is now toothless because we believe Yeshua.

This is what just part of Romans 8 states.

if you would read romans 8. Paul does not hold one day sabath up over any other day, and he says those who do should not judge who do not.. In fact Paul says we can hold every day up as his sabaath and be fine.. not just one day.

worshiping God on saturday and not sunday does not make you more holy than anyone else. or those who worship on sunday any holier or more evil than you. We are all just sinners saved by grace. thats why the law can not make us holy.

WomanLovesTX: It is happening, the world is waking up to understanding. I really wonder about us being used by God in this awakening! I was one of those who denied most of the OT. When Paul was teaching that the Jews were wrong when they said the new converts must obey riuals to be included and that was the test, I misunderstood him completely. I sort of threw out the baby with the bath water. If you told me I was wrong I would have fought you tooth and nail as I would fight for my Lord.

What turned me around to seeing what is so plainly the truth of God came, originally, from knowledge gained through study of the Dead Sea Scrolls. I began studying OT using a commentary by a man who spent years in the Holy Land studying ancient culture now available because now ancient language is opened up so old documents can be understood. I could learn how the people of the OT thought, the scripture was rounded out, but never with men's ideas but with historic fact. As I learned the divine laws of our world and all scripture, the entire bible became one, not divided as I thought before.

I think God has a plan for us and a remnant are following that plan. The majority are in rebellion. It seems to me we could see it begin to fall in place about 1945, with the holocaust as a precursor to Jews returning to the Holy Land, with the dead sea scrolls opening up new understanding, with prophecy beginning to unfold.

What is wormwood? Is it calling good evil and evil good? Is it the strong delusion from not loving the truth?

You can read about it in Dueteronomy and Revelation. It has both physical and spiritual meanings. Well you know how God set in place diseases as a punishment for sin? He also uses bugs. Look at the plagues of Pharoh. Well what was happening is there were some from among God's people who would do things their own way instead of God's way. They justified themselves in their own minds and counted themselves blessed along with those that actually obeyed God. Even though God sent worms on their wood and their gardens and vineyards as punishment, they STILL were convinced in their own minds that they were accepted and blessed. Because bad things happen in the world, they convinced themselves that it was not happening directly because of them.

I know God does this spiritually today, but I wonder if He still does it physically, or if it's just a coinsidence. Because I know a lady who has been in the church for about fifty years. There is absolutely no growth. She is passive aggressive, she speaks in a sweet voice but sabatogages everyone in secret ways out of revenge. For example, someone said they didn't like that she lets her dog eat off the same plates used for people. She spoke sweet and apologetic about it, then when they went to the restroom she had her dog lick the plate that she was going to use to serve that person a meal. She told me this and laughed about it.

She gets drunk regularly but hides it, she has several cigarettes going at the same time so that as she walks from room to room there's a cigarette burning there for her to smoke. She has sex with men for money but says she's not a prostitute. She purposely makes her children's hair with ugly choppy haircuts so that they are not better looking than her. This is all just the tip of the iceberg, but she goes to church and claims to be a humble Christian. People at her church have no clue.

Well at her house during the summer there are worms hanging from her trees. They cover her car, her house, they are everywhere. Some of her neighbors have them too, but the highest consent ration is at her house. Her house seems to be the middle of it.

Wow Kaycie, that's creepy, however i don't doubt it. Recently I encountered a woman who is terminally ill, confined to the bed, and she took great delight in recalling how she once gave her first husband a drink mixed with epigac, (not sure the spelling but it used to be available to induce vomiting), she laughed so much in describing how he had dry heaves all night after there was nothing left in his stomach..to add, he died a painful death from cancer. She did it because she had prepared a nice dinner and he wasn't ready to eat it immediately. There is truly evil in the world. This lady had no repentance for her meanness, and you would think that her illness that has her on the brink of death would cause her to seek forgiveness. Daily people would pray for her at her bedside while she gritted her teeth and cried. Laughing one minute, crying the next...bizarre.

I believe even tho there is forgiveness for us with a contrite heart, there are still consequences for our actions. May we all hang on and be faithful no matter what comes. blessings~k

Yes, that is what I'm thinking. Many people know someone who is hooked on Oxycontin, and even some that know someone who has overdosed on it and died. In Kentucky, there is a town where most children are fatherless because of this drug. These drugs are all legal pharmaceuticals. It's just a thought though. There is probably much more to it that we do not know.
