Normally the gift of tongues is a catalyst for other gifts. Once you're used to God using you through tongues, the other gifts are easier to find and use.

Mostly to bring me closer to God. It's not to make me cool or anything. Like I said on my last post, I think of it as a tool and not a toy.

Anyway, I think I will eventaully get the gift.
good to hear, I would say rather concentrate your efforts and prayer on being filled with the Holy Spirit as once filled...will give you utterance.

Ask and you shall receive. They have not because they ask not. I told him to talk to the Holy Spirit. The bible says we should all do it. Trying to make it some big hard ordeal putting blockers up in your mind is what hinders you. God is looking for people of action. Just do it. It's not all hard. God bless you, love

Okay so last night I asked God to take away the desire for the gift of tounges if I wasn't gonna get it, and I still want it. Does that mean anything?

oh yeah, also doing work today I was telling God the reasons why wanted it and how I wanted to used it and stuff. It sorta felt like something was happening, but I'm not really if it was or it was just my mind doing that to me. But I think I'll try again this way later tonight.

This is the first few paraghragh's from my book "The Doctrine Of Tongues Explained"

The Doctrine of Tongues Explained
By: Evangelist Johnny Stallings
Before one can adequately understand the operation of tongues, in the Church, and for the individual believer, you must first understand that there are three entirely diverse types of tongues that are operational by the believer through the anointing of the Holy Ghost. Two of which are for the edification of the Church, and one for the edification of the believer unto God. All of which are supernatural in essence and artless. They cannot be taught or learned, they are divine and direct from God the Holy Ghost.
The bible does not exactly give unambiguous names to the three completely different types of tongues it simply calls them tongues, so I have given them names for the purpose of in-depth study to conquer any confusion. While the scripture does not exactly name the three, I will show you through Holy Scripture that I am correct in the fact that there are three definite distinguished diverse types, for very diverse purposes. The first I will call the unknown language, or unknown tongue many call it the prayer language. The unknown language is for the edification of the believer unto God. The second is tongues of a foreign language tongue, this is for the edification of other’s. The third I will call the prophetic tongue, this is for the edification of the church. The prophetic tongue is a tongue that is spoken aloud in the unknown language but is always followed by a divine interpretation.
The first appearance in the New Testament that tongues is a gift, sign, or wonder to the believer is Mark in the sixteenth chapter and the seventeenth verse. It is told by Jesus Himself in a list of signs and wonders that He say’s shall follow every believer
. Mark 16:15-20 And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be ****ed. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 ¶ So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

I stand by what I said: ANYONE who knows Christ can have the gift of tongues if they so desire, even if it's just in your personal life.

If you want to speak in tongues, ask God and begin to do it.

Okay, when I was prayed for last week to get the Baptism of the Spirit. One of the guys that prayed for me said something about a seed being planted or has been planted in me. I asked him what he meant, and said he doesn't remember saying that. Apprently, when God is speaking though him he doesn't really remember what he was saying. So does this mean that I could have gotten the Baptism of the Spirit, but I just can't speak in tounges yet? I'm asking that, beacause one of his aunts got the Baptism of the Spirit but she couldn't speak in tounges for another 18 years since the chruch she went to thought it was wrong to speak in tounges.

1 Cor 14:4-5 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish that you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may recieve edification.

Paul's endorsement of prophecy over tongues in corporate gatherings is qualified by this equating the value of tongues with prophcy, if the tongue is accompanied b interpretation. Therefore, tonegues without interpretation are for personal edification. Prophecy and tongues with interpretation minister to the entire congregation, being understood by all. This understanding serves to affirm the fact of and distinguish the application of the two distinct ways "tongues" may be manifested- in private or public, in personal devotion or in public gatherings.

dont worry the gift of tounges is the least gift to aquire and is insignificant if u have a great open stron foundation and relationship with the holy father the son and the holyspirit im sure god has a perfect gift for u that if u havent figured out what im sure u will someday when the time is right. Its not somthing to be jealous of when u have a pure heart thats all u need, thats a gift itself. It also is a private language from ur spirit to god , nothing to boast or make public in corithians it speaks about keeping it in order .(14:26-39) its usually used for foreigners to translate the word.

I'm just wondering what since it seems like I'm get close to getting it. Like it's only a matter of time and not if I get it like thing. Could you tell me what you where feeling like just before you got it. Also maybe any other info you can give me on it.

As for me, it seems like God is waiting till I'm able to pray outloud without it feeling weird. I'm actually a very shy person. But does does this sound like something that God would be waiting for before giving me a gift like that?
Peace be to you
