I'm not going to debate the point. I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit while in jail seeking the Lord as a Christian, which happened 10 days after receiving Christ in a public church setting which happened after 3 months of mental and spiritual struggle which happened a year after the Lord began slowly but surely opening my eyes.
But I won't debate this, that's me and perhaps others have had it way differently.
Awesome testimony brother crossnote,
Praise Father in Christ Jesus for His great love and mercy towards all of us!.......

1 Peter 2:9-10
9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Isaiah 9:2-3

2[SUP]c[/SUP] The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shone.
3You have multiplied the nation;
you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you
as with joy at the harvest,
as they are glad when they divide the spoil.

Romans 10:8-13

8But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

The Holy Spirit working within is for character and fruit.

The Holy Spirit working upon is for power and witness, this is where the gifts come through.
yet both occur because the HS was placed IN (Anoint) us.

I will agree that it doesn't actually for word say that we must have the baptism of the Holy Spirit to be saved... This is something to seek the Lord on. That would mean many before Christ would not have. However, God is not a God bound by time as we are. What is impossible for us is possible for God. I mean Isaiah clearly wrote about seeing Christ on the cross as if He was looking right at it, just as John (the beloved) wrote about Heaven as if He were there. God was perfectly capable of revealing Himslef and touching lives and hearts any way He desired. Trust me, I was an atheist when God came to show me He was real. Now I will ask ech of you, have you looked for His face? Have you seen His suffering? Do you hear His voice? If not, I highly recommend that you seek Him every chance you get. And learn as much as you can about the Spirit and the Word on this matter. Ask God sincerely to remove your own thoughts and the voice of the enemy... Then listen in the quiet alone. I pray that He enlighten the eyes of your understanding and enlarge your heart for more of His love. Shalom~ Godly Soul Peace
what?

If you have not been baptized by the spirit. your still dead in your sin.

Water baptism is a representation, or symbol of what happens with the baptism of the spirit.

He said unto them, ‘Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?’ And they said unto him, ‘We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.’ And he said unto them, ‘Unto what then were ye baptized?’ And they said, ‘Unto John’s baptism.’ Then said Paul, ‘John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.’ When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. Acts 19:2-6.....so do I call this the baptism of the Holy Ghost?
It does NOT follow from this that tongues always accompany baptism of the Holy Spirit. In the case of Gentiles receiving the Holy Spirit, Tongues were a sign to the Jews that The Holy Spirit came to gentile believers without any need to Judaize them.

The Philippian jailor, Lydia, and many others came to faith without any mention of tongues.

You know I dont know about denominations that have to do with supernatural spirituality and denominations that dont and such but when i was saved it was a very supernatural experience, there was a an amazing power and energy burning inside me something so powerful and amazing that simply cannot explain it other than it was exactly like fire it was intense it was overwhelming is was powerful and it was beautiful. But not everyones experiences are the same I notice some are more prone to supernatural events than others, some like me and others have them all the time some never have them in their entire lives but what the baptism of the holy spirit is to me is simply accepting the Lord in your heart. If you begin and continue to show fruit and attributes of his heart then you were indeed baptized by fire even if you didnt feel it. I think being anointed and being baptized by the holy spirit are one in the same and I think the holy spirit and the holy Ghost are one in the same
This view (Act 19:3 "Then why were you baptized?" Paul asked. They answered, "Because of what John taught." Act 19:4 Paul replied, "John baptized people so that they would turn to God. But he also told them that someone else was coming, and that they should put their faith in him. Jesus is the one that John was talking about."
Act 19:5 After the people heard Paul say this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Act 19:6 Then Paul placed his hands on them. The Holy Spirit was given to them, and they spoke unknown languages and prophesied.) has beeing discussed -at lenth- several other places by theologicians.

Acts seems to show "both ways" were not "working" at the same time.

wow what an attitude.

It is not a cessationalist topic. we are discussing what the baptism of the holy spirit is. Not whether gifts are still in effect.

Do you want to know what the actual baptism of the spirit is. or not learn anything?
Wow...I don't have an attitude. I'm frustrated because out of everyone who responded only two answered my question...I should of said it differant. The Holy ghost came upon them they spoke in Tongues,they prophesied.. acts 19:6 I'm not talking about the baptism that happens during salvation...should I have said the baptism of the holy ghost???

Please, relax, Mrs Ruiz

Let it be acknowledged that a "pentecostalist" background or "secularlisms" are not popular around the world, neither in this site.

It was a joke, sorry. Even if I did just type in tongues, I shouldn't have done so in public without someone to interpret.

1 Corinthians 14
Let all things be done for building up. 27 If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret. 28 But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God.

The baptism in the Holy Ghost is indeed a 2nd work of thesppirit in the life of the born again saint.
However,you will not find much or any agreement here onn cc.
You see the lord did not come for the "well" but the sick,nor are the satisfied thirsty or hungry. They flat are not interested nor do they say inwardly "there must be more Lord" or "why am I not empowered as the early believers". They have been taught by non spirit filled teachers that they do not need a second work,do not need to see blind eyes opened,dead raised,or leapors cleansed.

Thank God the early believers were desperate for more. In fact,what did jesus tell John when John had a crisis in faith?

Jesus VALIDATED his ministry and authenticity as follows " Tell John the blind see,the lame walk,the dead are raaised,and leapors are cleansed

4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

".........they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them......."

Ever see this in a baptist church? Uh, after conversion,water baptism,the pastor will lay hands on the new convert for the SECOND WORK? Nope.
But these experts are quick to teell you,you have no biblical standing . You are wrong and they can omit verses to prove they are right.

12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me,
that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

So..........this paul that "speaks in tongues more that all of them" (baptism of the HS)
Wrote most of the NT.

Is it needed?

No, but I have been pressured by others in to speaking in tongues in church when I was a teenager. They all would surround me and all start going crazy in tongues and lay their hands on me and tell me to just start saying nonsense even if it doesn't feel right... I had studied 1 Corinthians by that point so I did not begin speaking in tongues in a way that was contrary to God's word.

Listen, earth, to the words from my mouth!
[SUP]2 [/SUP]May my teaching fall like rain.
May my speech condense like dew,
like light rain on blades of grass,
or showers on growing plants.

[SUP]3 [/SUP]“For I will proclaim the name of Adonai.
Come, declare the greatness of our God!
[SUP]4 [/SUP]The Rock! His work is perfect,
for all his ways are just.
A trustworthy God who does no wrong,
he is righteous and straight.

[SUP]5 [/SUP]“He is not corrupt; the defect is in his children,
a crooked and perverted generation.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]You foolish people, so lacking in wisdom,
is this how you repay Adonai?
He is your father, who made you his!
It was he who formed and prepared you!

think of the years through all the ages.
Ask your father — he will tell you;
your leaders too — they will inform you.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]“When ‘Elyon gave each nation its heritage,
when he divided the human race,
he assigned the boundaries of peoples
according to Isra’el’s population;
[SUP]9 [/SUP]but Adonai’s share was his own people,
Ya‘akov his allotted heritage.

no alien god was with him.
