But even Christ gave them the parable of the rich man who died and went to hell, and that even he returned from the dead, to inform his brethren what awaited them, they would not believe. The Pharisees were therefore not provided any sign when the Lord was among them because they were totally faithless. They did not believe even after Christ was resurrected after 3 days in the belly of the earth.
The veil being rent is the same as the sign of Jonas.

Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

Matthew 16:4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

They were looking for any reason (a lawful excuse) to put Christ to death. Yes, they wanted to kill Jesus when He made Himself to be God, but do you really think they cared whether someone called themself God? Do you think that maybe the scriptures which show that they knew this was the heir is true, and that this was the real reason why they wanted to kill Christ?
Are you implying that the Pharisees were convinced deep down inside that Jesus truly was the Messiah and the only reason they wanted to kill Jesus was because they knew He was the true heir? So even though Jesus exposed their hypocrisy and self righteousness with harsh words of condemnation, you don't believe that had anything to do at all with the Pharisees wanting to kill Jesus? They accused Jesus of blasphemy (Luke 5:21), of being in league with the devil (Matthew 9:34), and breaking the law (Matthew 12:2) which prompted them to seek to destroy Jesus (Matthew 12:14), yet you believe otherwise? Do you believe the Pharisees made these accusations up?

Do you not think the sign of Jonas who was three days in the belly of the whale, like Jesus who was three days in the belly of the earth?

Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

The Pharissees and scribes did hate the Lord for His having exposed their hypocritical true natures, but they also knew deep down that He was the heir as scriptures testify.
Yes, the Pharissees and scribes accused the Lord of many things, just like their father the devil accusses the brethren day and night before God (Revelation 12:10).

Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

And even though the Pharissees and scribes knew Jesus was the heir, they still did not believe in Him.
Just like the devils knew who Jesus was, the devils still did not believe in Him.

The Pharissees and scribes believed in the way of the world (which is the way of the devils), and would not have the true heir rule over them (Luke 19:14). The Pharissees and scribes hated what Christ represented, which was the opposite of what they believed in.

Luke 19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

I honestly think they hated Him for the same reason we still hate Him today. He shows us we are wrong, that "our way" is futile. We people can not stand to be told "you are wrong" at all, ever. In this "P.C. culture" we live in today that is the worst thing you can possibly do to someone. Not only is saying "you're wrong" completely out of bounds to most, but even the mere suggestion that someone is wrong is enough to trigger some. I understand why too, when you deny God in your worldview then try to construct any kind of moral system at all you only have left is opinion to work with. That's why we are told today that we are anything we "feel" like we are, and look what we do with this kind of thinking as fallen men. We teach our children (in the public school systems) that they are accidental highly evolved bacteria, flying on less than a dust particle in a universe that does not care about them, right and wrong is subjective and what we make it, there is no justice ahead, just "blind pitiless indifference"- Richard Dawkins, and to be very honest if there was no God the all of that would be true.

The thing is there is a God, and when we are confronted with that God then our own failing are exposed and we HATE that. I believe that was why they hated Him, they loved the world and what it offered them so once confronted with truth and their own sins from not only a Holy God, but also the only sinless Man to walk the earth with no way to rebuke or find any falsehood in His words, it made them steaming mad, the same way it still does to this very day. That's my thoughts on the matter anyway, have a great day. :D

True. The more we love the world, the more we hate God (James 4:4; 1 John 2:16).

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

1 John 2:
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

There was a time when Jesus was welcomed into the temple. When asked to read from the scriptures (this is a place of honor) jesus caused a awareness of himself and his purpose.
The Pharisees and rabbis had control over the people by traditions and lies.
Jesus started to undermine that control by establishing a relationship between common folk and God.
Contrary to popular belief the hebrew language which the o.t. was written in was not well known through out the land as some would think. It was however taught and used by the rabbi's and Pharisees who then told the common people the interpretation. Leading in to traditional ways and wives tales.
Jesus being jesus brought truth back to the people causing there hearts to soften towards the Lord. Loosing their grip on the people the pharisees sought to charge him a crime worthy of death. A moot thing to do because they had no rights to put a person to death being under Roman rule they chose to make him out to be a threat to Rome.
