I believe its because people want to follow a god who does what they want. They want a god that they can control by their own works.

Well, from what I have seen that the reason why, is that these so-called Christians has been spreading a false gospel that has turn people away.

There's scripture that people refuse to come to the light, because they prefer their evil and don't like being exposed, yes, being control freaks an aspect of deifying self, which I believe has deep roots in fear. As to the OP, though, in nations where these religions dominate, it's not as much a matter of rejecting Christ as being what your culture raises you to be, expects you to be, down to the family level. It's been noted, many times, how Christianity has spread in China in an amazing way, once the government let up on the communist blackout of Christianity. The gospel is powerful to save, anywhere, even reports of those most in peril being saved in Muslim nations.

It is a good question.

We have an inbuilt desire to be as god and those religions you mentioned except Islam delivers on that desire.

Religions such as Islam, Judaism and the Christian faith on the other hand address the guilt question another big reason people seek out religion. Islam and Judaism offers relief of their guilt through sacrificial works (hence pride) but only the Christian faith delivers true forgiveness apart from our works.

Both the desire to be as god and the inborn sense of guilt can be linked to the Fall and man has been 'religious' ever since.

Because Jesus invites us to "die to self" - others encourage "find yourself"

Because:

"No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day." (John 6:44)

"And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined He also called, those He called He also justified, those He justified He also glorified." (Rom.8:29-30)

"For He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His presence. In love He predestined us for adoption as His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One." (Eph.1:4-5)

"Not only that, but Rebekah’s children were conceived at the same time by our father Isaac. Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God’s purpose in election might stand: not by works but by him who calls—she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! For he says to Moses,

“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden." (Rom.9:10-18)

"The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come." (Rev.17:8)

Conclusion: Those who are involved in religions like Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc., their names were not written in the book of life from before the world was created and therefore God is not calling them. He is not drawing them to his Son. Although, there are people who belong to God whom he calls out of those religious system. It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.

Christianity is unique because salvation is a gift - free and clear. All of those other religions have a works based system to earn some kind of justification. Earning something makes people feel good - they want to believe they have contributed. They like the idea that if you do more good things than bad, you deserve a ticket to heaven. Most people believe man is naturally good, so what need do we have for a savior?

It's all rooted in the original sin - pride.

There are still millions of people who have either never heard the Gospel or have only a partial or distorted knowledge of it.
If you have been born into say a Hindu family and society the chances of hearing and responding to the Gospel is slim because you are not onlu rejecting a religion but your own family and culture. Even in western societies where Christianity is the main religion many people have a distorted view of what the Gospel is all about.

Perhaps one factor is that in some places in the world, children aren't normally brought up to believe in Jesus.

it takes opened eyes...

Matthew 16:17 KJVS[17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

Romans 1:18-21
King James Version(KJV)

18.)For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

19.) Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them.

20.) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

21.) Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

i would say its because they are born into those cultures and its the only way they know. try to see it through their eyes and not from yours.

Why then do some become saved from every tribe, nation and peoples?

After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
(Rev 7:9)

Not that hard to figure out. The word that Christ is our one and only true savior has pretty much been spread to the four corners of the world.
So that leaves a couple of reasons. In the case of people like muslims and catholics, they have been raised with a false religion and simply cling to that rather than accept the truth and alienate themselves from their friends and family.
The other one is also quite simple. To gain salvation we must put aside the world and all it's fleshly attractions. People like what they are doing and they choose a church that allows them to do their own particular sin, or, if their sin is too much, simply reject all church.
Drinkers and smokers that claim to want to go to heaven therefore, are likely catholics or baptists. Every little sect has it's own spin on what it claims will get you to heaven.
Sad, isn't it?

i never said these people are beyond getting saved. i said some of them live where the only belief system they know is what surrounds them, there is nothing else.
this makes no sense to many especially to those in the usa and western worlds where we have way more choices than what we need, but its not like that in every part of the world, many only know the one way that is presented to them.

Just from my own experience
Is because if you have not given Jesus a chance....you will never know truth because when you accept Christ in your life you will truly feel the Holy Ghost
This is true
And it is something many do not know sadly
