I'm sorry guys, and I hate to sound like an old guy, but, metal doesn't belong in Christian music, at all.
This is as far as i chose to read. I've heard these unfounded arguments a 1000 times and i've yet to hear one person make an argument that ever made me doubt for a second that any form of music is wrong by its nature. Please spare us any more of your personal opinion in the guise of spirituality and let us enjoy our conversation.
I'm 37, i started listening to Christian metal at 14. Your little self serving rant isn't about to phase me for a second. So take remove yourself, and the box you are trying to stuff God in, and take them out.

I'm sorry guys, and I hate to sound like an old guy, but, metal doesn't belong in Christian music, at all. By nature of the sound, it is probably 95% dark sounding. When you are listening to metal music, you are fellowshipping with demons-- sorry, I call it like I see it, and hear it. To me, metal music is very disturbing and sounds like it is coming from the pit of hell. I lost a promising job once, because the manager was playing metal music. It is so disturbing, that I had to step outside. The customers complained about it also.

Even bands like DCtalk, while I like some of their songs, like "Into Jesus," on that same album, they crossed over to the dark side several times with their melodies. Trust me on this. I'm from the 70's, and the same thing was happening back then with some rock bands being dark-sounding and others being more upbeat, although, most of the time, the music was about sex, drugs, and rock and roll. I played the bass guitar in a rock band, so I know what I'm talking about. Some of our songs also crossed over to the dark side, and I was forced to play them. One time, I walked off the stage. I can hear this stuff-- clearly. Crystal clearly. If you're trying to mix metal with being a Christian, you are deceived. I finally gave up all my 70's worldly rock music, while some of it was acceptable. 95% or more of the metal music is about dark demonic power, and glorification of evil.

I know one guy, a very talented musician, who is into all kinds of music, including metal. On stage he started screaming AC/DC "Highway to Hell." He seems very troubled and it's because of the metal music. Being demonic, it fries your conscience and your emotions, leading many people to self-destruct on drugs and other addictive behaviors to try to "feel something." When you become a Christian, you need to leave the metal behind. You can't have both Jesus and metal. And you can not mix them.

Ask yourself why your heart or soul is attracted to this dark sounding, often violent sounding music? Just because you grew up with it, does not make it right, and just because Christian artists are playing Christian metal does not make it right. They are blinded, deluded and deceived because that is the fruits of the demonic, dark music that they are playing. That's what evil does-- it entices you without you even knowing it is evil.

So, take it from a rock musician from the 70's that knows. Get it out of your house and out of your life, now. And parents, destroy this music, and do not let it into your house.

Seek peaceful music that leads to God-- not violent, dark music that leads to Hell.
Get off the "Highway to Hell," music.

Because its not evil. There is no such thing as a style of music being evil. There is no biblical backing for your argument. Only way there is is if you grab some scripture and contort it to fit your personal opinion. I've heard your kind 1000 times and you have never once made me doubt my music for a second. So move on and let us chat. If you disagree, fine, your choice, but let us have our conversation.

I agree. Noone can judge the hearts of those who write the music or those who listen to it. If it puts me in a spirit to worshop God, than that is all that matters.

I tend to draw the line at the point that music becomes an idol. That's my stance on it most of the time. If I need to take a break then I do and listen to Hillsong or something to get me back to a "good" spiritual standing if metal gets a bit old. I think music is largely subjective just as one's walk in faith is. So long as you aren't causing another to stumble then I think it's alright.

Ugh .. Hillsong, and similar stuff, is just as much, or more, about entertainment, than metal. They label themselves worship, but really they just put on concerts... all with pro lighting, pro musicians, etc... other than the difference in style, i see no difference.

Usually if i'm looking for more straight praise stuff i'll do The Glorious Unseen, or get a collection of songs from various bands that are worshipful.

I'm not much of a metalhead in the secular music genre either, but I do like Eowyn and Brian 'Head' Welch.

Lol seriously? I mean really? ZThis is one of the reasons I can understand people thinking christians are wadky. Yeah so this song is all about God but NOOOOOOO listen to that guitar riff, its clearly satanic. Its a joke your view of God is so constrained that he somehow cant use different forms of music to His Glory.

As i stated, twice already, i've heard all the arguments over the past 25 years, i've seen the videos. I've read the books and articles. Mostly all i see is these people are misinformed, and twist the things they see. Its a sad joke and hard to take them seriously.

Second, you're posting a YouTube video about secular music... but mostly we're talking about CHRISTIAN music. So, you're just like all the others. You don't go in fully informed and listening. You hear what you want, and go from there, like some chicken with its head cut off, running around with no real direction. If you're going to try to prove me wrong, at least READ WHATS POSTED instead of presuming you know whats posted. Just adds to discredit you and your weak argument even more when you can't even pay attention the the basics of the post.

This is, again, you showing you don't read. You claim i 'don't regard it as an issue', but i've said i've dealt with this for 25 years. So if i seem to 'not regard' it as an issue, maybe because i've been going this way for 25 years and hearing all the arguments already. And maybe because after 25 years of it i'm at peace with God and have never once felt an ounce of conviction over it. So, i'd say, after 25 years, yeah, i'm pretty well solid in my belief and the rightness of it. Shoot, i was convinced of the rightness of my choices before you were even born, kiddo.
God was growing me, teaching me, sustaining me and i was praising Him through this music before you were born. So you think you can come along after 25 years of my life experiences and post some Youtube video and think i'm suddenly supposed to change, guess again.

Well, wanted to end on a positive note-- I like several of the songs on DC Talk's album with the song, "Into Jesus."
I don't mean to be so negative-- just avoid music that is obviously dark sounding or violent--
no one's perfect-- it's hit and miss with many things in this world...

I say to each his/her own as far as music,(the language of the soul), goes.
What might sound like hideous demons to you might have spoken in a spiritual way to another.
Me personally, I like melodic harmonies and ripping riffs of fast, tingling lead guitars, but that's just me.
Am I in the flesh when I listen to it? - Probably. But I'm in a fleshly temple anyway.
I know you can make loud music.....what some might even call noise to the Lord
with an earnest heart.
How do I know?
Because I've done it.

And what are the hymns anyway?
Are not they beautiful(to our ears) sounds that enhance
our 'feelings' for the Lord? Raising our soul to a point of interaction
with His Spirit?

Now again, I wouldn't give an alter call to a thundering bassline and scorching lead guitar but......
there are alot of traditional congregational hymns I wouldn't play on that occasion either.

I remember when 'Stryper' was considered verbotten. And they were about as candy-apple as you
could get and still call it metal. - (Now I date myself)

Nice of you to try to end things positive, but unfortunately DC Talk is far from metal. They are CCM/pop and something i wouldn't touch. heh.

To me, music is subjective. I know some people won't like Christian metal just from the concept of it, and that's fine. The bible says there will be issues that people will disagree on over something being right and wrong. The problem is that these people feel they are right, and anyone who disagree's has to be wrong an that they need to make a point to correct everyone one of them. And that's where i get bothered.
Fact is, there is no biblical support to undeniably prove the innate wrongness of any one style of music. So therefore it is up to each person to make their decision based on their walk and convictions. If its Your belief that something is wrong with some music, fine. But your opinion and conviction is just that. YOURS.

Anyways, hopefully the subject can be dropped from this point on, at least in this thread.

Hey Rafael .. what 'metal' do you listen to?
