Exactly, and the problem that people have with a third or even possibly a fourth temple that I have now being talked about in biblical studies is that they only look at it from the Christian view point. We are now the temple, and therefore a physical building temple would be against the Lord.
The Lord Jesus was the Temple when He came; yet there was this earthly building for animal sacrifices in operation, which building / precinct He called "My Father's Oikos." He endorsed the Law of Moses, which endorsed the Levitical priesthood, & its sacrifices. He participated in Temple ceremony as a baby.
If you wish to be a part of His Temple, it is necessary to trust the Savior to Save you. If you don't know where you will go when you die, you don't trust Him. If you trust in water, you trust an idol.
However if you look at it from the Jewish aspect where a lot of Jews do not accept Jesus as Lord and Savior still. They do want a temple rebuilt, and are pushing for it to be done.
IMHO, it is a very small minority that want a temple rebuilt and animal sacrifices re-instituted.
When you compare this to bible prophecy ( scriptures ) then you will see how Ezekiel and the vision given to John in Revelation match. The Lord would not have shown John a vision of the two witnesses standing in front of the temple if no temple exists.
Good point, Kenneth.
If the temple were rebuilt, and I saw it, I would have to change my eschatology. IMHO, much of our eschatology is just trying to put things together the best that we can. And however we construct it, it won't make a dime of different as to what happens -- totally out of our control. But I do consider it important to have the blessed hope of the Lord coming and taking me up.
