So the period, like the middle finger, is being thrown under the bus for no reason.
Don't worry period, I'll never stop using you.

I've been fascinated linguistically by the affect of texts, social media, etc.. on our communication. It's pretty interesting. Think about the frequent use by many of "lol". It's become a sort of nod and acknowledgement rather than literally meaning "laughing out loud". I could go on. But great article!

Texting can be really weird. It is definitely no way to maintain a relationship. A person should never have emotionally charged communication via text. Only bad comes of it.

I have noticed that for some reason girls(I'm sure guys do too, just not any that I know) tend to only use a period when they're mad. I guess this somewhat explains that lol.

I guess I'm a special kind of donkey then. I always finish my texts with a full-stop. But that's because I've been trained to put full-stops at the end of a sentence.

Yes. A Study Shows That Ending Your Texts With a Period Makes You Sound Like an Asshole. - Mic

Sorry about the bad word...I don't know how to change it.
Did this study go on down the hallway from that group of guys still studying ' how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?' since 1975 lol

I could imagine the conversation now...
Shouting down some hallway in America...

" Hey Tootsie pop dudes...did you find out yet?"

" Noooo dudes...but thanks for letting us know we are A holes for texting a period man!' lol

Part of the problem with texting lies at the receiving end of the text. Some people are hyper sensitive and like to read between the lines. Pretty soon they are telling you what you meant and that you're a jerk. Haha

Either I have chill friends or my friends are always misunderstanding me then and think I'm always in a bad mood. I'm thinking the former. Seriously! I can't end my sentences properly because some idiot is super-sensitive about these things? Gosh.

First all my life I have to use proper grammar and punctuation from my teacher dad, never dared send him an email without first checking 10 times and now all of a sudden I have to be hip and not use punctuation.

This is the same crap that has, for years, frustrated teachers trying to help black kids. It is actually a fact that many blacks deliberately fail tests in school so that they will retain poor grades. It seems being smart makes you look like you are trying to be "white."

I fear this kind of nonsense is going to even further knock the USA out of future competition in the international scene.

It has nothing to do with black or white. Most teens in my school were white. You got made fun of if you got high grades and put effort in studying.

And I was ridiculed if anyone found out about a lax grade I might have gotten. I guess it changes with the school and the kids. But here in America, it honestly is a BIG thing with much of the young black culture.

Spend some time talking with teachers about this. You'll grab it soon enough.
I'd be interested to know what area of the country these teachers exist. I'm betting they're not Black themselves.

You know I love you, brother Willie dear.
 But honestly, that theory about Black people kicks me in my gullet. :p I just can't put any stock in that opinion. IMO, the more that kind of attitude is perpetuated, the more Black folks have to fight for equality.

I lived in a big city and the majority of my school friends (who were not “white” *ugh* ~ how I hate race labels!! ) were vibrant, studious and ambitious. We were extremely competitive in school, in academics as well as sports.

Many of my former classmates are my current Facebook friends. They include successful business owners, a former pro football player & Heisman Trophy winner (I had a mad crush on his older brother who is now married, a business owner AND my current FB friend), a famous Philadelphia DJ, professional musicians, teachers, writers, pastor, physical fitness trainer, etc. Seriously, I don’t remember anyone in school purposely failing their grades.

My kids went to school in the city as well and many of their friends (all races) are on my Facebook, too. They’re friends are intelligent, clever, awesome adults (a few of them world famous, too) and most of them think they’re the Grammar Police. LOL

Nevertheless, according to the op article they’re all “jerks” because they text me with correct punctuation every time. ;) Hahaha!!
