Not using punctuation makes you look and sound like a total moron. I will never take shame in high grades, and well written and edited texts, papers, etc.

I'd be interested to know what area of the country these teachers exist. I'm betting they're not Black themselves.

You know I love you, brother Willie dear.
 But honestly, that theory about Black people kicks me in my gullet. :p I just can't put any stock in that opinion. IMO, the more that kind of attitude is perpetuated, the more Black folks have to fight for equality.

I lived in a big city and the majority of my school friends (who were not “white” *ugh* ~ how I hate race labels!! ) were vibrant, studious and ambitious. We were extremely competitive in school, in academics as well as sports.

Many of my former classmates are my current Facebook friends. They include successful business owners, a former pro football player & Heisman Trophy winner (I had a mad crush on his older brother who is now married, a business owner AND my current FB friend), a famous Philadelphia DJ, professional musicians, teachers, writers, pastor, physical fitness trainer, etc. Seriously, I don’t remember anyone in school purposely failing their grades.

My kids went to school in the city as well and many of their friends (all races) are on my Facebook, too. They’re friends are intelligent, clever, awesome adults (a few of them world famous, too) and most of them think they’re the Grammar Police. LOL

Nevertheless, according to the op article they’re all “jerks” because they text me with correct punctuation every time. ;) Hahaha!!
Actually most of them are black. The white teachers my wife had under her (she supervised about 100, total) were stumped at this phenomenon until black teachers explained it to them. They honestly had a hard time understanding it, even after it was pointed out to them by those who lived right in it every day.

Your own description of the positions your acquaintances hold demonstrates what I am saying. The majority of kids who give in to this peer pressure are never going to know what it is to associate with the people you spoke of. They are already consigning themselves to be on the fringe, and future welfare recipients, and they won't even be considered for higher positions by employers because they are shooting themselves in the foot, academically speaking, at this very crucial stage of their lives.

Stereotypes are not just fabrications of prejudiced minds... they truly DO come right from the observation of everyday life.

That doesn't square with these government statistics:

  1. U.S. Department of Agriculture data from 2013, which administers welfare, 40.2 percent of SNAP recipients are white, 25.7 percent are Black, 10.3 percent are Hispanic, 2.1 percent are Asian and 1.2 percent are Native American.

You can just accept "statistics" published by the same government you already know lies to our faces.... OR... you can go physically park your car across from a few Welfare offices and police station booking entrances with a pad and pencil for a few hours every few days, and see the truth for yourself as you mark down on your pad of paper who goes in that Welfare office door, and who is riding in the back of that police car pulling in after an arrest.

This refusal to actually see real life is one of the reasons the condition of our nation continues to spiral downward.

And, Hey, "Redneck" means, basically the same thing in the white culture as the word you would be horrified if I typed it here, means in the black community. They experience much the same value and realism of life as many blacks.

I think the article has more to do with how sensitive people are and how quick we are as a whole to jump to conclusions when we read what someone writes. I don't understand the race angle at all.

The "race angle" comes from me saying that I have already seen the results of this same kind of peer pressure dumbing down the American population. This is just another aspect of it.

I rarely send a text but when I do there are periods after each sentence. This must mean that there are issues that must be addressed.

Part of the problem with texting lies at the receiving end of the text. Some people are hyper sensitive and like to read between the lines. Pretty soon they are telling you what you meant and that you're a jerk. Haha

sounds like the bdf forum

period

I wonder what it would be like to read a really long text without any periods and I wonder if commas are allowed and stuff like question marks which I actually had to think about for a bit to not make it a question and I notice that it is really really hard to type like this because making punctuation marks is a reflex and I keep having to delete them I just don't get how one is to keep sentences apart and I really think I have to stop now because I am annoying myself
