HEY!!! Once upon a time... I actually used to wear this, and one of the things I liked was the unique green color. *ducks*

My Mom is really into fragrances, so one of our "bonding times" would be to go to the local drugstore and take a whiff of all the latest offerings. To this day, I still buy and wear bottles of Love's Baby Soft and Exclamation and still get compliments on both. (I'd love to go to the "fancy" stores but for the most part, shun the prices and go the cheap route.) In fact, someone told me, "You smell good," and I was wearing Exclamation today. Hooray for high school bargain fragrances!

Funny how the same scent can smell so differently on different people... When my brother was studying in France, he splurged and sent me a bottle of some kind of Versace perfume (trust me, it's the only thing I've ever owned by Versace!!) and yes, on me... it was pretty much the equivalent of Deep Woods Off combined with Liquid Drano.

I didn't want to waste it though, so I gave it to a friend who LOVED it, and fortunately on her it smelled more like a walk through a flower garden.

I bet I can still find Emeraude in the stores... I'll save it for a VERY special occasion--like meeting Gypsygirl in person. :p
you know, as soon as i put the fragrance name out there, i started to worry about something like this happening. i hope i didn't offend you with my opinion. : )

well, not only is everyone's chemistry different, but what pleases our noses is quite specific as well. i have rather strong opinions when it comes what smells good to me in the fragrance arena, and i don't always agree with good friends, either. i remember there was a fragrance that several of my friends loved -- it was a popular estee lauder fragrance, with a "linen" note, and i thought it was dreadful. actually, i don't like most of the estee lauder fragrances.

while i don't go the drugstore route, i use so little of it, that what i do buy seems to lasts forever. i hate it when people overdo it. there's a phrase that i fancy that goes something like, "the only time you should smell a lady's perfume is when you're hugging her (or in her 'space') and i think those are wise words.

but yeah, fragrance is so highly subjective that it makes a terrible gift (unless you already know that they like it). : )

1. when you were in school, what was your favorite subject to learn?

tie between ag & history

2. aside from actual educators, what person in your life has taught you the most, and how did they help you?

My mentor, Dr. Dan Hawkins. He was a brilliant pharmacologist who had a heart for helping people to quit using tobacco. His actually intellect was unmatched by anyone I have ever met, and he taught me so much of the science of addiction. However, in a weird way, he also taught me something more valuable. It doesn't matter how intelligent you are if you can't communicate your message effectively. He was way over most folks' heads, so most of what he tried to convey was lost.

3. name something you once learned, but have since forgotten.

I once learned a magic word that can make any woman bake you cookies, but after a conk on the head the first time I tried to use it I forgot it.

4. in the school of life learning and education, what "class" would you be most qualified to teach?

here is the irony for the singles chat ppl: probably one on public speaking

5. if given the opportunity to take classes or lesson(s) from anyone you wanted, who would be your teacher, and what would you choose to learn?

Without Jesus juking the question, I would love to learn from Stephen Covey or Zig Ziglar on leadership. If I was to pick a more concrete subject, it would be cooking lessons from Alton Brown.

5. if given the opportunity to take classes or lesson(s) from anyone you wanted, who would be your teacher, and what would you choose to learn?

new questions, with a common theme: learning!

1. when you were in school, what was your favorite subject to learn? languages

2. aside from actual educators, what person in your life has taught you the most, and how did they help you? My stepdad. He taught by example: patience, a passion for learning, the wisdom in silence and the danger of jumping to conclusions.

3. name something you once learned, but have since forgotten. Obedience is better than sacrifice.

4. in the school of life learning and education, what "class" would you be most qualified to teach? Why being a good listener is better than being a great speaker or "How to Roll with It"

5. if given the opportunity to take classes or lesson(s) from anyone you wanted, who would be your teacher, and what would you choose to learn?
Billy Graham would be the teacher. The lessons would be whatever he felt most important to learn/the lessons that helped him become the person he is today.

1. when you were in school, what was your favorite subject to learn? Maths and Programming. I found them interesting because there is no hard-and-fast rule to arrive at a solution.

2. aside from actual educators, what person in your life has taught you the most, and how did they help you? No one person, as such. I take lessons from here and there, build up my own life's user manual and refer to it when I am in crisis.

3. name something you once learned, but have since forgotten. What Julianna posted - obedience is better than sacrifice. I have adapted it with a rider '.. conditions apply'.

4. in the school of life learning and education, what "class" would you be most qualified to teach? "How to balance patience and aggression".

5. if given the opportunity to take classes or lesson(s) from anyone you wanted, who would be your teacher, and what would you choose to learn?
Nobody, really. I can learn from anybody as I believe that everybody either has a story to share or a lesson to teach.

1. when you were in school, what was your favorite subject to learn?

Anything and everything (umm, yeah and about that volcano I tried to dig in the backyard)

2. aside from actual educators, what person in your life has taught you the most, and how did they help you?

My Dad. Taught me healthy skepticism of other people's claims and instead of bedtime stories sometimes it was like bedtime how does the world work FAQ's with Dad as the answer guy.

3. name something you once learned, but have since forgotten.

I never forget anything. Or at least I have forgotten if I have forgotten anything.

4. in the school of life learning and education, what "class" would you be most qualified to teach?

Tie between how to excel at being always the friend but never the girlfriend and how to listen to people so you hear what they mean. I may also teach 101 ways to procrastinate if I ever get around to it.

5. if given the opportunity to take classes or lesson(s) from anyone you wanted, who would be your teacher, and what would you choose to learn?

After the obvious God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit answer (oh wait he is our teacher how cool is that). I think I'd love to have a panel of persecuted believers talk about how they keep the faith. I come from a world where being a believer is the easy thing to do, and I'd be very interested to hear what people who risked losing everything to follow the Lord have to say about how they came to their decision.

2. aside from actual educators, what person in your life has taught you the most, and how did they help you?

My Dad. We've had a lot of great conversations about life.

3. name something you once learned, but have since forgotten.

4. in the school of life learning and education, what "class" would you be most qualified to teach?

A kid's art class

5. if given the opportunity to take classes or lesson(s) from anyone you wanted, who would be your teacher, and what would you choose to learn

1. when you were in school, what was your favorite subject to learn?

During my elementary years, my favorite subject was Math. As I got older and entered into my middle & high school years, my favorite subject became English. It still is.

2. aside from actual educators, what person in your life has taught you the most, and how did they help you?

That would most definitly have to be my grandparents. My grandmother was one of ten children. She grew up on a farm and was abused by her father. She grew up and became a cafeteria worker in the school system so she could bring a smile to the children's faces each day. She is 78 and still working. She has taught be that no matter what circumstances I am presented in this life, I can overcome them through love.
My grandfather grew up quite spoiled and in a very different situation from my grandmother. However, he stepped away from that a little and started the first television shop in town. He's highly intelligent, and has shown me that anything worth having, is worth working for.

3. name something you once learned, but have since forgotten.

I once learned how to ride a bicycle. However, it seems as though I have kinda forgotten. I have been trying to ride one again and my balance isnt the greatest. How on earth did I do all those tricks when I was younger? The old saying ''you learn how to ride a bicycle and you never forget it'' just didn't apply to me.

4. in the school of life learning and education, what "class" would you be most qualified to teach?

Interestingly enough, I am a teacher of special needs. LoL. However, in the school of life and learning, I suppose I would be most qualified to teach young single mothers being that I have been one for 12 years now.

5. if given the opportunity to take classes or lesson(s) from anyone you wanted, who would be your teacher, and what would you choose to learn?

I would sit under the instruction of Billy Graham and his late wife Ruth. I would want to do a Bible study with Billy and allow him to show me the things that he has seen/learned throughout his life about spreading the gospel. I would want to learn from Ruth her secrets to being a loving and supportive wife to a man like Billy Graham.

This is a wonderful testimony of yours. Once, when I was riding a bicycle I was riding no-handed, got distracted, hit a parked car and flew over the car and out in the street. Of course, the bike was toast. Surprisingly, I did not break anything. Now, when I am driving I always wear my seatbelt, very careful and observant and obey all traffic laws. I even come to complete stops at stop signs. I admire Billy Graham as well and I have read many of his books.

1. when you were in school, what was your favorite subject to learn?

I liked them all in elementary, I was kind of a nerd (whew! glad I got over that and am sooooo cool now! *snork*) In high school, I liked Spanish and my music classes. I was in band all four years, and I accompanied the choir for one year, so I was enrolled in that class, though I didn't sing. I was kind of the "errand boy" when the director did a capella things with them, so I got to wander the halls. It was great! We had a closed campus, but I was the kind of kid who everybody thought would never do anything wrong, so I walked off campus to Taco Bell next door with no one batting an eye, would buy a whole bunch of cheap tacos, then bump up the price and sell them to kids during lunch. I made a killing! so began my life of crime...

2. aside from actual educators, what person in your life has taught you the most, and how did they help you?

What's coming to mind is my grandfather. My dad's parents and my mom's mom were still friends long after my parents divorced. One Christmas while visiting my dad's folks, my other grandmother was there. She was given a wooden chair/stepping stool sort of thing, and she promised me that I could assemble it, which I was to do the day after Christmas. For whatever reason, my dad assembled it that night after I had gone to bed. I was confused but didn't want to make a big family scene - and growing up in the family dysfunction where you don't discuss feelings didn't help much. My grandfather actually had to tell me that it was okay to be mad at my dad.

3. name something you once learned, but have since forgotten.

I once knew all my state capitals...and back when Burkina Faso was still called Upper Volta, I knew how to spell its capital, Ouagadougou without looking it up.

4. in the school of life learning and education, what "class" would you be most qualified to teach?

I could give classes for men on how to respond to conversations with women. Active listening at the beginning of the discussion will usually tell you if this is something she wants you to fix or if this is something she wants you to listen to and sympathize with such phrases as "uh huh - that must have been so hard for you...." "I'm sorry that happened! I would be upset too!" etc....

5. if given the opportunity to take classes or lesson(s) from anyone you wanted, who would be your teacher, and what would you choose to learn?

I am already learning so much just from observing real people. My work takes me into a catholic thrift store ocassionally, as the people I support volunteer there. The cashier is a sometimes grumpy dude, and when the crazies come in with there issues or he has a difficult or unreasonable customer, he deals with it quickly, not necessarily in the way they want him to, and never "owns" their problems. Though I think he could be a little more compassionate, I could also learn from him...

5. if given the opportunity to take classes or lesson(s) from anyone you wanted, who would be your teacher, and what would you choose to learn? My grandparents. I would love to know the old ways once again. The simple way of living. Everything's too modernized and instant these days.

1. when you were in school, what was your favorite subject to learn?
My favourite subject was always art. Except all through high school I had the same not-so-great art teacher. She didn't like me because I gave her a hard time so she let out her frustrations by being excessively critical over my art work. But I was encouraged when the other art teachers gave me kind words about my work. My brother is a few years older than me, and he had an amazing art teacher during his senior years. This art teacher came off as someone you wouldn't want to mess with, but my brother told me don't be scared of him, it's only a front he puts on. Then in grade 9 I told this teacher I was looking forward to being his student when I reached my senior years. He said he's familiar with my brother's work and has come across mine, and sees promise in me. Just before my senior years, he left our school. I was immensely bummed.

2. aside from actual educators, what person in your life has taught you the most, and how did they help you?
I used to have a friend who disciple me when I was a bubba Christian. I learnt so much about respecting myself, God's law, studying scripture and how to pray through her instruction. But that was meant for a season. That relationship became unhealthy quite quickly, and I had to leave that church quite quickly as it was run by her parents. The whole situation was just crazy but I guess God can use some really strange situations to grow you.

3. name something you once learned, but have since forgotten.
I used to know how to play 'hot cross buns' on the recorder.

4. in the school of life learning and education, what "class" would you be most qualified to teach?
'Forgiving your mother', and 'What not to cook'

I'm reading an amazing book about Britain's history on revivals at the moment. If I could, I would want to be taught by many of those past revivalist from the 18th and 19th century. They really rocked this world as they surrendered to the Holy Spirit. I want to learn more about that!

1. when you were in school, what was your favorite subject to learn?

i loved, and still love etymology - the meaning, structure, and origin of words. also writing, and speech/forensics/debate.

and big surprise, i still love a good debate. : )

2. aside from actual educators, what person in your life has taught you the most, and how did they help you?

my grandparents, but especially my grandmother. much of whom i've become is because of who she was and her enormous influence on my life. she was hospitable and generous of spirit. from a young age, i noticed that everyone felt like she was their best friend, and she had a gift for making everyone around her feel so special, acknowledged, and vitally important.

but most of all, God's love always shown through her, and in her countenance and words.

3. name something you once learned, but have since forgotten.

i used to be virtually fluent in german, and i've lost some of my verb conjugations. however, i was listening to some the other day and i understood fine. i think i need a refresher course or something.

i REALLY hate forgetting things. a lot. in fact, it's one of my major fears.

4. in the school of life learning and education, what "class" would you be most qualified to teach?

hard to say. i
feel like i know a bit about a lot of topics, but not really a master of any of them. that kind of "talent" is practically a requirement of working for yourself.

maybe my classes would be "how to's for life-hacking and having a good time without even trying.

5. if given the opportunity to take classes or lesson(s) from anyone you wanted, who would be your teacher, and what would you choose to learn?

i met elisabeth elliott years ago after hearing her speak, and share from her experiences. i could listen to her talk for hours and gain a lot of insight from her life's journey.
