I'll admit that from time to time this my sentimental side brings this thought up since my family has a rich heritage going back almost 400 years on this continent. I am the last in my immediate family line since although my father had two brothers, neither of them ever married or had children and although my sister has two kids, obviously they don't carry my family name. However, I'm not about to run out and randomly get married just for the purpose of maintaining the family name.
Me neither, but I think we should keep trying, not just for our sake but also for the sake of our family's heritage too instead of trying to get comfortable and content with our singleness (which is what I think this thread is about). I'm in the same boat as you. If I don't have any children, my family's namesake ends with me.

The whole "Search for Spouse" debate is tired. Some are called to search earnestly, others are not. It starts becoming healthy or unhealthy when we cut completely one way or another.
While I haven't read the rest of the thread after this post, I just wanted to agree and add, if anything in your life starts to take priority in your mind and heart over God, including a Godly spouse, then it is unhealthy. Wanting a spouse is totally cool, but putting that desire as number one priority in life? Not so much. :) God and His kingdom should always be número uno. ;)

I don't really get why there are some single people who wanna stop being single so bad! hahaha! God has His plans for us and maybe we just need to be focusing on His will and not ours. because I think that the one that God has for is will be worth the wait! :p! What are your thoughts? lol!
Personally i have been single all my life, and I fully understand the concept and meaning behind the "wait for God" response that many people have. With that being said, I am focusing on his will by being open to NOT being single (man will cling to his wife and the two will become one) it was always his intent for people not to be alone... and also to give you the desires of your heart.

I guess another way of thinking about it is that in this world filled with self centeredness and hatred, its astronomically easier to become complacent and happy thinking only of yourself and retaining your singularity versus being open to the idea of sharing your life with another fully and completely.

I think this is why many non believers tend not to get married - so when they decide to switch into "me mode" its way easier; there was never a true commitment to the other person to begin with, it was all completely only for their own gratification.

I agree we should all wait for God to give us the person he has created for us, I just dont think we should wait for him to show up in person - take us by the hand - and say hey you... this is so and so... go be fruitful. IMO There isn't anything wrong in following his guidance to lead you where you need to be and who you need to be with, as long as you remember to do your part. Seek HIM first in all you do and he will make straight your path.

Don't sit on your single mat and say woe with me I'll stay here till something changes, pick it up and walk.

Well, thats how I tend to view it anyways... I'm waiting and listening to what he tells me to do. He might say be still or go join that cooking class knowing that the one I wait for is there too. If you dont join the cooking class you won't meet the person (just and example) Does that make sense?

There are over 6 billion people on the planet and growing. Not all of them are fed, clothed, given medical treatment. And those that do have those things are living decades longer than they did in the past. We currently have more people than we can take care of, i don't really think there' s a big need to try to 'preserve' the human race. If anything we're now out of control with our population.
It's not that there are too many people, its that there are not enough people who care enough to help and there are too many in power who are corrupt and ignore the needs of their people. Some even block aid to their people (like the Myanmar government).

Every last person alive on this earth today was created an put here by GOD.

Even the least of these were put here because God has a plan for their life! We should not talk about people as if they are just a burden to the rest of us.

Over the past couple of years I was desperate to find someone to be with because I thought it was not normal for someone my age to not be interested in, or to already have, a man in my life. After a while, however, I realized that God knows what He is doing and He has the right man appointed for me, it just hasn't been my time to find him yet. I am now happy being single with my pets until that happens.

I have been single for a while now and although my heart will go out, it will wait on God for it to move... Being single has brought me into a deep deep relationship with Christ , places I wouldn't have gone with the distraction of someone else who is looking to get something from me they cannot themselves get from God..it will be when God says I am no longer to be single And if He so chooses for
Me to be with someone .. I am confident He will bring This person into my life.. Do I believe my relationship with God has to be right before it can be right with someone else? Yes , whole heartedly I do.. If it's not I will become dependent on someone else to take care of my emotions, my thinking, my well being .. If your dependent, how can you take care??? ..God says to hand the first of everything to Him.. My trust my hope my future etc.. As his word says " Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?". My heart is open to loving someone ... as for now, God is taking very good care of it :). I see nothing wring with singleness or
Marriage.. Both are good

I really liked what Ritter and Catlynn had to say. There seems to be so much obsession about the fairytalesque "One". Meeting someone seems to become the priority for some people. For some anyone will do, and they bounce continuously from one person to the next. Others seem to be standing at the end of cattle chute checking off prerequisites. Some of us are so afraid of making mistakes that we don't even try anymore..

All of these things can interfere with our walk with Christ. They can easily become a god. And God will never be pleased with anyone or anything coming between us and Him. So, even if we do find something or someone wonderful, we risk losing it/them if we put it/them before Him.

He has to always be our first priority. HIM...not some theological ideals we read in a book somewhere, but knowing the God of all creation personally, and yielding our lives to Him completely. We have to allow Him to put OUR lives in order before we will ever be ready to find or share it with anyone else.
