Sure. Two conditions though.
1. You have to read the book to me.
2. I can date book club members.

I feel that this is an awesome idea and it needs to be on the first page.

Gypsygirl, what's the closing date for the applications?

I love this idea! I'm in.

To the haters, you don't have to participate, and there are a multitude of opportunities elsewhere for group studies that more suit your preferences :)

I'm kind of an "and" person on this one. it doesn't have to be this book INSTEAD OF that book. we'll just do THAT book next time around. Perhaps those who would prefer a different book can agree to facilitate the discussion for their book choice as they suggest a book for a subsequent discussion.

those who don't like the book choice at all can bow out and join up when the group moves on to a book that strikes their fancy.

gypsy - did you intend the book to be discussed on THIS thread? were you going to create another? are you planning any "real time" discussions in chat? do you want things more casual and less organized...

oh. by the way. I'm in.

my suggestion for a book to start off with is love focused, by bob and judy hughes.

on amazon, this book is currently reviewed at five stars
.

however, it's being sold on the author's web site for a cheaper price. the authors' website also features a pdf overview of the book as well.

i have elected this book to start with because i have read part of it, and think it lends itself for this kind of discussion and group participation particularly well for the following reasons:

+ subject: it's relevant for all christians, because it addresses all relationships as well as our identity and walk with God, with adequate scriptural context and references.

+ easy to read - i think it will appeal to most in that respect

+ a good length - 218 pages

+ format - available in both hard copy, kindle and electronic, download format, priced $11.99 and $9.99 respectively

read the pdf overview here
first, thank you so much to all who've expressed interest. i'm pleased that we have enough interest to proceed forward. i am excited about us taking learning journey together, and being able to sharing our insights with each other.

so the next step is to purchase your book. you can find it on your own (either online or locally), or purchase it through the two different sites that i'm aware of:

the authors' site -discounted paperback, and pdf download only available (with link for kindle)
amazon - paperback, kindle

there are three available formats:

1) paperback hard copy
2) kindle
3) download pdf

note: make sure that you purchase the actual book, and NOT the study guide--the covers are almost identical.

please aim to have the book no later than than september 14, as that will be our first official week. if anyone has problems procuring a copy or any concerns, contact me directly and perhaps i can help out.

if you already have your book, or would like to start early, feel free. i will post the first set of questions for discussion/consideration the week of september 7.

finally, i want to encourage you to invite any other friends to participate--regardless of whether they are part of cc singles, cc in general, or not regular cc users at all. i have done this myself, and two other friends (outside of cc) are going to be joining us in reading together.

note:if you are only now reading this thread, that is ok-- you can still participate. simply purchase the book, and be ready to start reading with us. however, do please respond to this thread (if you haven't) so that i can be sure to note your desire to participate.

i will generate a new thread to share the schedule and first set of questions. please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any concerns regarding book procurement, or the study itself. if you would like to participate but can't afford the book at this time, PLEASE contact me via pm. i don't want anyone to miss out on this opportunity because of cost.

You got me there for a sec, thinking about suggesting to get a audio-book version.. or it would be nice to either learn how to read or have someone there read for you. Then realize you have to know how to read to write anything, no?
If I could learn a new language or two, it would be Hebrew and Greek so I can read the Old Testament in Hebrew and the New Testament in Greek. Then, realized simply being able to read itself can be a new language to some. Hmmm...

i'm sorry if that wasn't clear in yesterday's post.

+ the first official week will be the week of september 14 (chapter 1), to allow people to have their books on time

+ chapter 1 discussion questions will be posted the week of september 7 (probably no later than this weekend/monday) to accommodate those who want an early start.

+ from there on out, i will follow that convention, and post the questions the week prior to the following weeks' chapter.

+ chapters are approximately 13 pages, and i am planning one chapter a week, with supplemental questions/discussion for each

+ time frame and schedule will be made crystal clear for following weeks in the coming schedule, which i will post within the next few days.

+i will use a new thread (more appropriately titled) for the actual discussions, along with posting this info, and plan to follow up with a pm with a reminder.

+ my primary concern at this point, is to make sure everyone has adequate time acquire a book. for those who haven't ordered/purchased the book, please make plans to do it ASAP. info regarding where to purchase Love Focused can be found in earlier posts in this thread.

+ if you have issues with procurement, or would like to participate but are short on cash at this time, please let me know--i feel so strongly about this study that i don't want anyone to miss out for that reason.

+ it is NOT too late to decide to participate in the book study--just order/purchase the book and reply to this thread with you interest.

+ finally, i would REALLY appreciate any of those who i've had conversation with, or have indicated their interest to me directly to please reply to this thread in some fashion to help me make sure you aren't left off the list. thanks!

i hope this answers any immediate questions.

hey, i sent you a PM with thoughts, and a possible solution.

to all: if you run across any roadblocks or concerns procuring your book, please let me know. i can probably help you figure out a solution. : )

oh, and if you haven't already: DON'T FORGET TO PICK UP/ORDER YOUR BOOKS!

options for purchase include:

1) purchase the paperback and pdf version at the authors' site

2) purchase the paperback and kindle version at amazon

3) another online or local source of your choosing

+ our first "official" week will be the week of september 14

+
if you haven't "signed up" yet, it's not too late. just order your book and indicate your interest in the thread.

note: if you would like to participate but cannot afford to, please contact me. i have options for you. : )
