I celebrate earth day by burning black forest wood (AKA tires) what? the earth is carbon starved i'm just doing my part to feed it.
lol i think carbon is bad for the ozone or something. carbon monoxide i believe is found in acid rain. acid rain cause weathering, and even the very killing of trees.

trees breath carbon dioxide and exhale clean oxygen....for a lack of better scientific words.

and well when i finish a bottle of soda(in plastic casings), i have programmed myself NEVER to throw it anywhere. i would carry it with me ANYWHERE i go until i meet a recycle bin. that is the same with even the smallest piece of dirt, a sweet wrapper, a piece of paper.etc. allllllll go to the bin.
just gets me thinking, if i throw a lil bit, someother dude might come and see ooh, a dumpster might be starting here so woohoo there goes my plastic bottle, or this small piece of paper, and it all piles up day by day.

Save the Earth lol.

biblically this world is been destroyed daily, and if the LORD would not come, NONE would be able to survive the changes going to this world. basically human beings would go extinct if there was NO GOD.

Thank GOD for His second coming.
[SUP]Genesis 1
27 [/SUP]So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

[SUP]28 [/SUP]And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
[SUP]29 [/SUP]And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

[SUP]30 [/SUP]And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

[SUP]Genesis 2
15 [/SUP]And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

The word "keep" is synonymous with "guard".

Jesus came first to save us from the curse of the law of sin and death and thus reconcile us to God.
I am in agreement with you that at His second coming, He will save us from the destruction that man has caused to the earth.

It will be Jesus that saves the earth, but only for a season until the new heaven and earth have been made ready.

I got your post, Cris, and i'm 100% in agreement. I'm not 'green'. If they want to give me a recycle bin, i'll use it. But i'm not paying extra for it, or going out of my way to do it. I doubt we'll be around long enough to see the long term effects anyways. God's going to do a lot more damage to this planet before then. So i'll do the 'reasonable' amount to not litter, and whatnot. But that's it.
My favorite is Obama, pushing all this 'green' on us, but he can't travel to the next state without his private jet. How green is that?
Yes! That's part of my point that I...failed...to make. As for why it isn't right for Christians to get so overly involved in "saving the planet"...if we believe what the Bible tells us, it won't matter so much in the end if we all go "green" or not. We can't save the earth from what God has in store for it, for us. Recycling isn't going to prevent God from carrying out His plans.

And I think it's a bad idea to start thinking we do have the ability to...extend the life of the planet. Because the Bible says nothing about the human race being able to change the timing of Jesus coming back based on how clean and pretty we keep the earth.

I just feel it's wrong to make the earth such a huge priority...and I think it's important to know where to draw the line.

Also, the Obama thing- HA, yeah, that's...special.

I wish I had a jet.

Today is sibling day. Until i checked Facebook this morning I'd never heard of sibling day. Someone at Hallmark card is grasping at straws.

We can take care of the planet and not take extreme positions on either side of the issue. But that would probably make too much sense.

Is there like, a reason we should celebrate Earth Day?
There shouldn't have to be an Earth Day, if you understand what I'm saying. There is a Mother's Day, a Father's Day, a Family Day, a Veterans Day, all days of the year set aside to honour people and events. Why should I wait till Mother's Day to appreciate my mother? Should I pretend my human father doesn't exist 364 days out of the year?

Last night, I was watching a nature documentary on TV about the animals living in Yellowstone National Park. Bears, wolves, elk, bison, eagles, crows, ducks, chipmunks. I was so moved by the beauty of nature! I felt such peace and joy and gratitude! In my heart I worshipped God and thanked Him for creating the natural world. :D

I believe in recycling, but probably not for the reason that most environmentalist do. Do I consider myself an environmentalist, yes, but one based on practicality. Not your typical environmentalist huh. So no, I don't go out and hug trees, or do all the weird stuff.

First, my parents grew up poor, and at some points of their lives on farms. They grew up with a if it's fixable, then fix it. If not, then re purpose it type of attitude. It was for practicality that they recycled or re purposed. That attitude has somewhat been ingrained in me.

On top of that, I'm also very aware of what cutting down trees will do to our environment. Trees provide a huge service for people, including homes for wild animals, such as feral hogs. (I live in an area where feral hogs can be a problem at times, although I have yet to see them.) One of the problems with real estate developers coming in and destroying are woods is the displacement of animals. Where do you think the animals are to live? That's right, the cities, and your yards. In fact, we are already seeing it happening now, such as that coyote in NY that decided to vist, what was it, Starbuck's or Quizno's. Anyway, it's a very viscious cycle that begins that ends in no deer, hogs, cattle, etc. (Personally, I think every hunter should be an enviornmentalist for this reason. Hey, I like to eat meat, and the hunters need to be able to provide me meat.)

Now, with all this said, is Earth Day important? Yes and no. It's important in that it should remind us to be more conscious of what we are doing. However, it's not as that we should be more aware of human rights then animal and plant rights. My personal belief is that if it's between saving the last cockroach or a cure for AIDS, kill the cockroach. (Kill it anyway, it probably spawned when you didn't see it.)

No, no! I'm not saying that at all! Oh man. I'll try to be more clear...

There are people whose main cause in life is to...save this plant, save that animal, sometimes to the point of risking their own lives so that a single plant or critter can live a little while longer.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a passion for preserving nature. I spend a lot of time in the great outdoors, I like to hike, river raft, camp, all that. And I am careful to clean up after myself so others can enjoy the same scenery. I think it's wrong to trample through and destroy nature just because we're bigger and we can.

What I meant was, there is a point where that passion over rides everything else for some people, and the earth then becomes, like zaoman said, a deity to them. So what I'm saying is, I don't know exactly where that point lies, but I feel that if preserving nature gets to be more important than your own life, or the lives of those around you, or...that's lunacy, and unchristian.

I don't know if I'm explaining it right, still. I'll try again in the morning.
I'm glad that we have people like that. I'm so proud of people who are willing to help and to make some changes in this world. Animals can't speak for themselves, they can't save themselves. And there are too many cruel, greedy and stupid people in this world... I'm glad that we have people who will do something to change things. I'm glad that they have guts to fight for what is right.

Also-maybe someone has a job that is diff thn yours. Let's say he/she works with dolphins. Sure -he/she will be interested in ''their problems''. Those people have a passion for something... let it be-either it is saving fishes, trees or anything else.

Maybe a bad example. But let's say someone tries to bully or hurt your kid. Will you just stay there and look at it/do nothing about it? No, you will do somethng about it-cause you care about your kids. Their health-emotional/physical (also-you love your kids). So, please tell me-how is that diff from someone who cares about animals? If I do love animals-and if I see that there are some things which are totallllly wrong->I will not close my eyes to that problem. I think that is a selfish thing to do.
If you don't have a passion for saving animals or something-why talk bad or make fun about people who does that?

And one more thing. I don't think those people worship something. They just care about animals and nature. I don't worship nature or animals, but yes-I do love animals and nature. I'm happy that God gave me eyes to see this beauty. And that he gave me a heart to feel love for them. I appreciate what God has given me. And I'm sure that I will do something to help someone-either it is an animal or a human being. Otherwise-we just take, take, take-and never give back.
Anyway, I will shut up now.

P.S.
I'm glad that you clean after yourself. Some people don't do even that.

After reading this and other posts here, it helped explain this perspective in more detail. So I think I understand a little bit better what you meant to say now. Sorry if I sounded harsh in my post. :)

I'm still not sure how celebrating an earth day conflicts with the concerns you have mentioned, but I think it's more about people trying to undo some of the damage that humankind has done to earth, not trying to interfere with nature and God.

If somebody believes that global warming is man's fault, then naturally, humans will do what they can to undo it so the next generations don't have to suffer for our stupidity.

I'm not sure where I stand on the global warming thing. I think it's entirely possible that what we've done to earth didn't help. If people want to be "green", then good for them. Unless you are living in the wild and working hard to make and grow everything you own from scratch, and live off the wilderness and never use electricity or plastic, you can't be truly green, but it can't hurt to make little choices like recycle or plant trees or drive a car that produces less poison. I don't think people should be mocked for their efforts, only educated.

I was at a Phish show years ago. My friend and I sat on the lawn kind of close to these wanna be hippies. Well they were littering, smoking crazy, throwing the butts every where. It made me mad. So I busted through the pot and stink smell and asked them to clean up. I thought sheesh for a bunch of so called hippies they sure don't care about the earth.
