exercise is a very good thing but you can go too far and become obsessed with it just like anything else. Keeping your body in good working order is a tribute to the Lord and His blessing you with it. As long as you keep the Lord forefront in your mind and praise Him, it should stay a healthy thing to do. Along with exercise goes eating healthy. If you exercise and eat a lot of unhealthy foods, you are not taking care of your body properly. Whatever your weight, God made you and as such we should take care of ourselves and give God the glory.

Firstly, You girls are crazy. o_O.

Secondly, You girls really don't need to wear makeup & you shouldn't feel like you have to. If you want to and choose to I guess that's up to you though.

Our world is so shallow sometimes =/... That there is an entire industry dedicated to this is sad.

PS: I have no fashion sense.

Girls, always keep this in your heart that we are God's creation. Our creator is perfect, all his works are good. So that means we are all beautiful physically. All we need to do is improve our inner beauty. Beautiful soul always and forever stands out. God bless!!

Give it up man. They never listen.

See? But they still don't listen. A blue million ways men have come up with to say "I love you for you, not for how you make yourself look" but they never listen.

I never gave much thought to such things when I was younger either. I was (and likely still am) a tomboy. :) I was busy being a wife/mother, getting an education, building a career (where there is a certain expectation regarding one's appearance...at least in my field), blah, blah, blah. I failed to take much time for myself and have paid for that in some ways. Funny thing though, as the years begin to creep up on you, you do find yourself wishing you'd taken better care of yourself. I found skin cancer to be a very ugly term.

it's interesting. in some respects, your progression has been the opposite of my own. as i've gotten older, i do a lot less and while i could probably be seen as high maintenance when i was younger, i don't feel the inclination or need any longer. i no longer thermally straighten my hair, i seldom paint my nails and wear very little makeup.

my "routine":

1) i use a high spf EVERY SINGLE DAY. something that has both chemical and physical block in it. and i don't skimp, i use it everywhere that is exposed. and i've been doing that since i was maybe 22 or so. if i am going someplace where it's going to be quite bright or wet, i'll bring a hat, especially for a long day.

2) i am crazy about exfoliation. i have a clarisonic, that i use everyday. and i dry brush my skin before i shower most days. and i moisturize a lot. depending upon my schedule, i'll do an occasional chem peel.

3) exercise just makes everyone look better. your pallor is improved, and i think circulation and muscle tone improves everyone's appearance.

i used to care a lot more about the "window dressing" than i do now. now, i am more comfortable in my own skin (and everything else too). as it's been said multiple times in this thread, we all need to learn to take care of our temples, and love who God created us to be, and that is largely reflected by how we treat ourselves.

i have come to realize that physical, emotional and mental health is more powerful than any cosmetic. and along with holistic health and godliness--happy, intelligent women (and men) are always the most attractive.

Couldn't agree more about the skin care, exercise and exfoliation. I've never been one to care about the latest makeup fads, etc., but, for me, these things are simply good stewardship.

*sneaks into beauty thread. doesn't recognize most of the words being mentioned* *heads off to Google*

BEST HEALTH/BEAUTY TIP EVER: SLEEP. If you don't get enough rest, it will show in so many ways.
*clears throat* I keep telling people here that I need my beauty sleep, but some don't like to believe me. :p

Apparently I do need to use sunscreen more often as I rarely use it. I could probably stand to eat a little healthier as well.

Yikes. So much misunderstanding in this thread. :p It's really not that hard. We all know what it looks like when someone invests in their body with vanity as the motive. As children and servants of the One who gave us these bodies, it's a completely different situation, and an admiral one at that, when we invest in our bodies because we want to be responsible with what we've been given. I used to be guilty of not taking care of myself well enough but now I put forth reasonable effort to care for my health and wellness because I'm grateful for this one body that God's given me and I want it to be in good shape so that I can have the strength to go or do whatever He leads me to do.

End rant.

Aaaaanyway, I appreciate the helpful tips in this thread. ^_^

Health tip: Ditch the chapstick. A tiny drop of skin lotion does a much better job, lasts longer and your poor chapped lips will feel so much better.

If you have a sunburn, apply skin moisturizer immediately, thoroughly and in large amounts. Sunburnt skin feels dry for a reason. Keep applying it until your skin stops sucking it in.

Chap stick is evil personified. It actually makes you lips worse. The lotion idea is good or you can use just a drop of oil.

Or a drop of oil, that will work too. But it only takes a very small drop of lotion or oil. Like VERY small. You'll know if you used too much because you'll have a lot left on your finger. But skin lotion is much more likely than oil to be in a woman's purse.
