What I hear you saying is that if I remove all the sugar from your house, I could get free tea bags.
The sugar has been long gone, but if you would like a glass of water, drop on by.

People can also be manipulative in real life not only online. Some even pretend to be single.
You are absolutely correct. We must be on our guard these days..

Re: How Long Have You Been Single? (The Brand-Spankin' New & Updated 2017 Version!)

This is one of the reasons why I'm always interested in how people define what "single" is.

Some people define single as not being married.

So if their date at the party happens to walk into the next room and isn't right there at the time... They'll tell the person they're talking to that they're single--and give off the impression that they're also available.

Or maybe a person has met someone online and spend vast amounts of time on the phone or online with someone for the past 2 months... And one person might think they're in a relationship--but the other person, upon meeting someone else, insists, "I'm single."

One of the toughest things I've encountered in the modern dating world is trying to find out if the person you're interested in talking to is actually single and available to date in the first place.

I'm sure this has always been part of the challenge, but for all the information that's out there, it seems easier for people to fudge their relationship status/identity now more than ever.
Some people define single as single when their spouse or bf/gf is not around. ;)

It is frustrating if you always try to figure out if they are two timing you or not but that is part of being vulnerable in a relationship. Their choices are not in your control and we cannot change people. People will do what they do based on what they learned in life and it is your choice if you will participate in how they do life. For me, I don't feel safe if there is any hint that someone is showing interest in me or with a commitment with me but still pretend to be single or still hitting on others.

Maybe it's a matter of statistics...

Imma necro this thread.

Single and ready to mingle for 27 years. Never even been driven off the lot. Give it some time and I'll become a pristine classic.

Well I am and have been a virgin all my life,I've never been on a date for all my life, and so clearly I have been single all my life, and still single while typing this, but no big deal I'm spreading God's word through the holy spirit and if I'm a virgin on judgement day well then at least it is holy so I'll be glad when that day comes very soon!

I've never been married but I have been in relationships before... When you say "single" I'm not sure how to poll that

This is an excellent question that a couple of people have asked.

I kind of left the title open to the interpretation of each individual, hoping it would coax them to tell us a little bit more about themselves and their views in their post, just as you have done. :) Kudos!

Re: How Long Have You Been Single? (The Brand-Spankin' New & Updated 2017 Version!)

I'm single and have been from the beginning, so single by all definitions. And I honestly have no intention of changing that currently.

The thought of another person relying on me or looking to me for anything, whether it may be support, attention, or help, is repugnant. Strong feelings, I know, but I'm already attempting to wean folks from asking things of me and certainly not looking to add to their numbers.

But, I've always been the odd man out. When I was in my teens, I put dating off till college. During college, I felt more comfortable with concentrating on school and work. Afterwards, I wasn't interested in any of the offers and wasn't going to force it. I'm reaching the age where I'm supposed to feel the desperation to get married and have kids but the option still isn't all that attractive. I like my simple life and entanglements are more on the to be avoided end of the scale for me.

Mr. Roger's neighborhood was still on the air when I started out being single I suppose!

Re: How Long Have You Been Single? (The Brand-Spankin' New & Updated 2017 Version!)

I have been single for the most time of my life. The longest time for my last relationship was 3 months back in 2009 and I thank God I got out of that relationship before things got far worse.

So if single as for not being married, it's for 29 years :)
