I was told by someone in the last year they felt God had made me into someone who encourages. I thought that was somewhat ridiculous personally..but maybe not to far off. I do tend to give people a very matter of fact ''you are worth something don't be stupid and listen to the world start listening to God'' sort of encouragement. So maybe not so much midwife as drill instructor but it does seem to be in me.

Pipp.... I'm feeling a bit feeble minded... can you give me some cup cakes? Or better yet, can you mail yourself to my house so you can bake me cake all day? Kthxbai.
She is not Pipp anymore. She is The Pipp and may only be addressed as The Pipp from now on. Also when you are done with her and her cakes ship her back. I also want a cupcake.

This is a difficult and dangerous question to answer. First, there we should be placing bets until someone comes along and starts the argument of "there are no/only some/those aren't spiritual gifts" debate. And second, you could call me a Seer. That is my most prominent gift.

I won't argue 'bout it..... I'm too busy trying to get up off the floor. :p

Well Stephen, you can laugh at both of us then, as I've been told I have a similar gift.

And if God gave it to me, I can't be all the more grateful, no matter what anyone else says.

The purpose of this thread is NOT to criticize or debate OTHERS' gifts, but rather, discuss what you believe are your own. As the author of the thread, I am asking that everyone please stay on topic. This is not the place to make fun of the abilities God gave someone else.

(Stephen, this is the part where you stay on topic and share with us about your OWN gifts...) :)

Thank you so much for sharing that, Aimee. I think that's a really brave thing to post on a public Christian site because many Christians wouldn't understand and would call such a gift as being from the devil. I simply call it God's gift of Divine Insight.
*Sighs and shakes her head after seeing Stephen63's post #24.*

Well, at least someone jumped right in and gave a visual, totally off-topic demonstration of exactly what I just said.

I'm sorry if you got the wrong impression..... I'm not laughing at the gift, although it is an old term only used in the OT. Just thought it was funny because of who claimed it, that's all.

It's a good topic, really...... I like it. It would be nice to hear some experiences to explain why people say they have these gifts.

you know, i read a lot of things on cc i find to be amusing, or even flat wrong. but that doesn't give me the freedom to attack and belittle the posters--at least not according to my bible.

one of the things that possibly irritates me more than anything else is when someone has the courage to share of themselves and another like you chooses to make light of, or ridicule someone personally for that.

it's incredibly disheartening for me, because i know that others read such things, and can begin to question whether they really want to share in a honest way when you show such impudent temerity.

there are a number of people here who show remarkable courage by their honesty and boldness, and i would like to do all in my power to make it a safe place for people to feel free to share without fear of personal attack.

if you disagree or have thoughts, you are certainly old enough to know how to do so in a manner that is respectful and in a way that honors the intention and charter of both this site and the purpose of this thread.

it will NEVER be acceptable for you or anyone else to come to a thread such as this one and make personal attacks against anyone. please knock it off, sir.

we as christians are called to be distinguished by the manner in which we love one another (john 13:35) regardless of our personal opinions, previous history or petty quarrels.

thank you.

again, i'm coming up short for this answer. i think the truth is, it really depends upon the person.

for some, i am the motivational speaker
for some, i am counselor (or maybe triage nurse???)
for some, i am the entertainment and hospitality director

i don't know about the rest, or even how to characterize it. i wish i could.

Ooooooookaaaaaaaaaay..... since no one seems to know what I'm really talking about, let's start over:

This is a difficult and dangerous question to answer. First, there we should be placing bets until someone comes along and starts the argument of "there are no/only some/those aren't spiritual gifts" debate. And second, you could call me a Seer. That is my most prominent gift.
This individual has come on others' threads attacking myself & GaryA right outta the blue, accusing us of ridiculous things that she couldn't prove or get others to agree on. So for her to make this statement seemed ludicrous to me.

But when she said she had the gift of a seer, to me that was way over the top since she herself did these things..... like maybe she could "see" who others actually are..... That was why I LOLed.... I respect the gift totally.... but understand I can't believe this person after what I've been thru with her.

I personally apologize to Seoulsearch for derailing her thread. She's a wonderful person whom I've come to like & respect & I realize I can't fix her thread now. Pleeeeze forgive me!:(

I am an intercessor. I also have an ability to feel and communicate with people living with disabilities who cant communicate and people who are dying. God has shown me His compassion in suffering so that I can then share it with others.

So THAT'S why nobody read my post. We were busy with this brouhaha. :p

In a feeble attempt to get the thread back on track, the topic is "What do you feel is your place in God's church?" Not specifically gifts of the Spirit, but your place, what you do for God, whether it's being a missionary or vacuuming the church floors.

Stephen,

I remember the thread you are talking about well and to be honest, I disagreed with much of what was being said there on all accounts, but stopped posting because the fire was already raging out of control.

My concern here is that now that one person's gift has been analyzed and picked apart, others will be afraid to share out of fear for being criticized as well.

This thread is meant to encourage people in their gifts, not question why they claim to have it. I appreciate your comments, as well as the apology, seeing as most wouldn't bother to do so, but I also believe Aimee has made some very insightful contributions in the forums and that she should be encouraged as well.

Please, when you post, think of how you can build others up instead of tearing them down. And, you are still welcome to share your own set of gift with us.

Everyone, I hope this little "hiccup" in the system certainly won't stop you from posting. I'm not a moderator but I intend to keep this thread as encouraging as possible.

Reminds me of an old song.

Why did I walk through the valley
Why was I forced to my knees
Why did the sun parch and dry me
As I walked through the desert of defeat
Then came the clouds and the rain fell
I thought I'd never make it through the night
But God gave me the answer as I prayed with you
He let me see the dark to hold a light

Now I can kneel with a brother who is bearing a burden
And say I know just what you're going through
I can pray with a sister in the midst of her sorrow
And say I know because I've been there too
I can put my arm around someone who is down
Tell him to have faith and confidence
What in pain I could not see
I now fully believe
God prepared me for such a time as this

Wow I have tears streaming down my face. Whats the name of this song??.

Lord I lift my brothers and sisters in Christ up to your presence so that we can honour and glorify you and you alone with our gifts. Lord let us also remember that you gave us the greatest gift of all, your love. Let us love you lord with all our hearts and love each other as you would have us love.
Bless us all in your precious name Jesus.
Amen

I've found I work best as an assistant and a cheerleader. I can't do the work that needs to be done FOR the person, as I've tried to do in the past. I'm also not necessarily the one to point out what the problem is, but I will give my input if I feel it's appropriate or am asked. I can't be a substitute for the hard choices they have to make, but I will certainly do what I can to help them through it.
1 Corinthians 12:27-28 (NASB) [SUP]27 [/SUP]Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it. [SUP]28 [/SUP]And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues.

Anybody can help in a single situation. But not everybody can help in any given situation. The gift of helps can cause its recipient to be a go-to person for anything & anybody. The christian with this gift nowadays is the one juggling multiple responsibilities in the church due to other christians not doing what they're called to do. 'Helpers' IMO make up the main part of the core group of the church.

Seoulsearch, from what I read of your Op, you definitely have the gift of helps.

Stephen, this is a terrific idea, thank you!!

Perhaps this thread can also be used for those who want to mention gifts they see in others that we might not see in ourselves.

Stephen, I definitely think you are talented at explaining things to others, even when they are difficult concepts.

Thank you very much for your kind words and for making this very positive contribution.

I smiled when Gypsy mentioned she might be a nurse triage... I just hope that when I call I get to talk to a live person instead of having to go through the three recorded menus while trying to contact my local nurse triage!!!

Everyone, you are amazing and I love reading about how much you love to help other people with the very unique talents God has given you. I also loved the post about not being any particular member but rather "morphing" into this member of the body or that as needed. I thought to myself, "How cool!! A Christian version of Mystique!!" (even though the poster was male :)).

I hope you will all be encouraged to continue to share because as I read your posts, I am thinking things such as, "Wow, his gift would go hand-in-hand with so-and-so's and these three people would make an amazing team while doing mission work and my gift would mesh well with poster #X." It's very exciting to see how God has designed us all to complement each other for the purpose of His work.

The funny thing is, Stephen63 was the person I knew would attack first. Call it sight, call it luck, call it what you wish, but it's a shame I didn't message Seoul or Gypsy or someone who could verify my claim now. Ehh, whatevs.

You claim love and peace and praying for those who oppose you Stephen, but all I've ever gotten from you is overbearing meanness. To the point of my feelings being hurt from the roasting you and your cohorts gave in that other thread. You know the one where Gypsy had to come to my rescue? And I didn't bother to say anything about the hurt because y'all seemed to disappear. Well, it seems you're back and MORE THAN WILLING to start it up again. It's yet another reason for me not to respect you as a man or an elder. If you're actually a pastor, I'm not seeing much pastoring going on. All you've given me is passive aggressive nonsense, meanness, and force. You didn't even bother to ask me to define what seer meant. I left it vague for a reason. I wanted to see what other people would assume.

It's my own fault I'm crying as I type this and that I've let you hurt me. I guess I shouldn't expect anything else out of you.

DuchessAimee: If you deliberately leave something vague you have to expect people to assume things other than what you had in mind. In the meantime, isn't this whole mess something best taken to private messages? Dirty laundry is usually washed in private.
