Love is more than just a commitment.

It's an emotion brought on by lust: desire for a person, which develops into passion after intimacy through several steps of commitment. It properly also involves a willingness to sacrifice as much as one's life and goals and dreams to mesh with the other person.

Lust?!

There must be another word that you were thinking of.

Love is the fruit of meaningful relationships, but means little until it becomes a verb.

uhm, Brandon777, I think you still need to discover what love is - because it is not based on lust, it is based on a commonality of commitment and sacrifice......

If love and lust are so closely knit together, we're all in big trouble, as we are supposed to love one another, but not to lust after one another.

What is love without lust? Lust defined as sexual desire. If you have a male/female relationship there should be some lust to begin with or else the relationship is dry and colorless; based on some other motive like money or reputation. Christians often substitute the word lust for attraction, but they really mean the same thing that atheists mean when they say lust. Attraction lust and desire should be brought on by perceived beauty in the other person whether physical, intellectual, spiritual or otherwise. There could be an argument that says that lust is a more extreme and unhealthy form of attraction based on an obsession or perverted preoccupation, but what's perverted about having sexual feelings for someone of the opposite sex? And unsaved people don't define lust as something obsessive. Perhaps Jesus meant something different when he said lusting in the heart was a sin of adultery. Because if it means sexual attraction surely one can't help that any more than they can help having an opinion about what colors they like, or what foods they like. And surely lust is acceptable in a marriage relationship.

The word love that you mean in the Bible is altruism, not lust. Agape, not eros.

The OP said neither agape nor eros. He said love. No context was given.

I was referring to when you said, "We are supposed to love each other" You get that from Mark 12:31 "The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." Plus, the OP was referring to eros from what I could tell.

It would be presumptuous on my part to determine he did not mean love in all forms, so I did not.

Hey brandon777, I love you.
If you mean you would take a bullet for me than okay. That's altruism. It's kind of annoying what you say because it's just shouting to the world that you're a good person. You can be a good person, but be proud of it just between you and God.

Well whether it's presumptuous or not, that's how I approached it. I don't see how that would be bad. All I'm doing is steering the conversation to what I want to talk about. It's not like the OP had much to say. He didn't expound at all.

flight, Brandon knows I love him. We do this all the time. :)

I just like to answer clearly. Presumption leads to misunderstandings, and often judgment, I've found. :)

Yeah, I know Jullianna loves me. I was trying to make some points, but all you say is I love you. That's not really what I want to hear, because I'm making a point. It's like you're babying me. I already feel loved okay?
