I’ve noticed in chat/the forums that it’s okay for guys to kid around about how gorgeous they are….we all laugh and think it’s funny, but you never see women do this. Why do you think this is? Are women more humble or are they just slapped around more for saying it? :D

Maybe it’s the peacock thing….

Perhaps they don't want to be hated by other women, lol.

If a man can generously provide for his family, it does not matter what he looks like. He could be a toad. If a man cannot provide for his family, it does not matter what he looks like. He could be Prince Charming.

Questions?

LOL arwen...yep..mostly in the lounge :)

I was just thinking about peacocks fanning their tails, gorillas thumping their chests, and some of the dances the males do in the animal kingdom. Maybe it's a little sumpin' like that ;)

I'm thinking guys get by with it because they are funnier about it and other guys won't hate their guts...not so in the female world, huh?

Wishful thinking maybe.

When I talk about my looks I make sure that I stamp out any possible hint of interest that might be flickeriing in here. :p Not that I think there's any interest for me flickering in here, but one can never be too sure..

I'm a christian, christian's aren't supposed to lie, what am I supposed to do when I look into the mirror and think "my goodness that is one hot piece of meat!" Or how am I supposed to react when on saturday nights I have a group of ten girls clawing and kicking and scratching just to be the first to ask me out.

It's not easy, nor funny.

P.S. It's nice that girls are more humble about their looks, however being overly self conscious about looks and constantly down on yourself, not an attractive trait.

Personally I think God turns us into ladies and we get that feeling of wrongness when we start to think of ourselves in that fashion. We become ladies for our Lord and He says that we should ask Him to help us not to think higher of ourselves then we should so He changes our hearts. I think guys do it because they are just trying to get attention lol its kinda like "hey look at me I can stand on my head" adorably silly :D

I think sweetspiritgirl has a point. As women, I think it means something when someone says it TO us rather than saying it about ourselves.

The most important thing is look at a person heart. Looks never should matter.

Course the flip side to this is that men can joke about their own good looks, and women may not get away with it as easily.
But go into the Chats and watch the role reversal, whereby guys can't make comments on a woman's physical appearance, unless maybe he does so in a highly respectable, carefully worded manner... yet women can talk about mens looks and bodies in a lustful manner and no one bats an eyelash. Even male mods laugh at these inappropriate comments.
So it seems some things men can't get away with and some things women can't get away with.

Interest??? As in how much interest my Burger King stock is earning right now? That kind of interest?:)

I don't go into chat much anymore, but I have noticed in the real world that some women will say a lot of things about guys, particularly male bashing, but then get offended when guys tease women about things. I hope no one took this thread as male bashing because I truly didn't mean it that way. Just an observation that men don't seem as sensitive about this stuff as women. Then again, there are things guys are more sensitive about. It's interesting.

I don't do it in here or the chat because words can be SO easily misinterpreted, especially if you don't know the person. I don't joke around here like I do in the outside world, because a lot of the context is missing.
I think part of the problem is that yes, women are more criticized when they do it. Maybe because there are tons of women who actually say things like ''My legs are better than hers'' and they are not joking, and it is very annoying. When I'm with close friends I do joke around like that...but only because we know we are joking. It all depends on the context but usually guys know how to do it in a funny way more than girls.
