Be deliberate. Take the initiative. Be proactive.

I'm trying to describe my internal dialogue of late, without using buzzwords and I'm failing miserably.

Attack life, before life gets the chance to attack you. Do it when you know its right, not when you finally get permission.

Your actions are faster than your reactions. You would do better to seize the initiative than to adapt to the situation.

Go after the things that are important to you, before someone else does.

Good things may come to those who wait, but its really just the leftovers of what was the best thing.

Everything you love is subjective, and will hold more value to you than anyone. This is not up for debate or compromise, what is best for you may not always be explainable or articulated well but, that does not remove its value. Don't let others steal your joy or rob you of your treasure or devalue the things that matter most to you.

This is what makes the story of Jacob so heartbreaking. He fell in love and then settled. Don't be Jacob.
Have you been watching TED videos?

No. Ironically. I wanted a Dr. Pepper but my boss said a Delivery truck was arriving soon, so It could arrive at any time or be an hour or so. He thought I should stay at work and wait.

So then I was like, #YOLO and left.

I felt like I was 18 all over again. Then I realized that I used to do that for everything. And now I wait, ask for permission, offend no one, and place my plans before the plans of those around me.

I don't want to be him. I don't want to wait for other people to make a choice for me, when I could simply take the initiative.

I used to break all the rules, because I had something to do worth breaking rules. Now I wonder how I lost it.

I've become so inoffensive and vanilla. I'm accommodating and compromised.

Well, I'm tired of it.

So... Then you went to get your Dr Pepper and came back in time still? How did it feel?

*is literally drinking a can of Dr Pepper currently*

It felt like the Matrix. Like I stopped the bullets.

I'm not typically a DR. Pepper person per-se, however on this occasion it struck me as something cool and refreshing that I had forgotten the taste of completely.

I've always been more

1. Iced Coffee beverage in a can
2. Cheap Punch
3. Mt. Dew
4. Sweet Tea
5. Coke
...everything else.

467. Nile River water.
468. Diet Coke.
469. Yellow Snow.

That is so awesome that you had a moment clairty of being intentional in your choice not to do what you've been doing automatically, but instead listened to the other voice in you, the more free-thinker in you. That's neat. Glad you experienced that.

That sounds exactly like the subject of one of the TED videos I watched the other night (and I've only watched 3 or 4 in my entire life). There were a couple others I watched that night too and they were all pretty good. Here they are staring with the one your post reminds me of..

THIS is amazing.

If I was Hindu, I would want to be reincarnated as a Falcon.

If there was a Carbonated Prune Juice flavor of Cough syrup, I believe it would be indistinguishable from DP.

So basically what you're trying to say is Dr Pepper is laxative and a cheap drug in one?

Today morning I had the butterfly song running in my head. I don't know why I was reminded of it suddenly. But I like the song. :)

The Butterfly song (If I were a butterfly)

Words and music by Brian M. Howard

If I were a butterfly
I'd thank you Lord for giving me wings
If I were a robin in a tree
I'd thank you Lord that I could sing
If I were a fish in the sea
I'd wiggle my tail and I'd giggle with glee
But I just thank you Father for making me, me

CHORUS
For you gave me a heart and you gave me a smile
You gave me Jesus and you made me your child
And I just thank you Father for making me, me

If I were an elephant
I'd thank you Lord by raising my trunk
If I were a kangaroo
You know I'd hop right up to you
If I were an octopus
I'd thank you Lord for my fine looks
But I just thank you Father for making me, me

If I were a wiggly worm
I'd thank you Lord that I could squirm
If I were a fuzzy, wuzzy bear
I'd thank you Lord for my fuzzy, wuzzy hair
If I were a crocodile
I'd thank you Lord for my great smile
But I just thank you Father for
making me, me

To me exceptional is -

* To be bold, courageous and passionate about your ideals

* To not give into herd mentality

* To be unafraid of what others think of you, their opinions are not before God

* To see the depth in others.

* To push for the truth, to see the narcissism behind faux spirituality

* To look forward to correction, to pain, to growth

As I get older though, and more people grow up and get more set in their ways, my greatest fear is that the numbers of people who would get that depth and that passion would only dwindle.

That outlier section will always be lonely.

I sometimes feel like I am Danny Taggart, in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Having to fight the rot in the environment around me, the rot in church, the rot in office, the rot everywhere. Sometimes I just want to shrug and move off. Other times I want to stay and fight. Teach me what is right to do, Lord.
