I'm not a "young adult" so I'm just going to say this and bail:

Anybody considering financing, encouraging, or getting an "abortion" (Aw, now doesn't that word just sound so harmless and clinical?) apparently hasn't spent any meaningful time around any babies, and if they have, they are a sick evil person for considering such an atrocity. Have I been emphatic enough?

I am okay with some methods of birth control but not others. Hormonal/chemical birth control and sterilization are wrong in my opinion because these methods alter the hormonal/chemical balance of the body and interfere with normal function. According to some research I've read, should the woman conceive, these methods can pose a slight possibility of damage to the growing fetus.

I am against abortion in all cases except for in the event of maternal death and only as a last resort. I saw a handful of people mentioning rape being an okay excuse to have an abortion. I cannot speak for everyone because I don't know everyone's stories and I don't know their hearts but here is my story: Easter 2006, when I was a few months shy of 19 years old, my virginity was stolen from me as I was brutally and repeatedly raped by my then boyfriend - someone I loved and trusted - and some of his friends. I won't get into the gory details but, in late summer, I discovered that I was pregnant and DNA tests proved it was his. I was pressured by friends, family, the SANE nurse, and even my gynecologist to get an abortion. I didn't feel like it was right because it's not like the baby asked to be born through something so traumatic.

Back then, I was skeptical about God but looking back, as cruel as it sounds, I know it was part of His plan for me. I knew that as a young woman with no job and severe emotional instability I could not care for a child the way the child deserved so I sought out a couple wishing to adopt. I found a lovely couple who lived not far from me. They are a Christian couple who are unable to have children of their own and had been praying to be blessed with a child so I couldn't have come at a better time for them. After going through the proper legal channels, my daughter was legally adopted (open adoption) and they were able to take her home from the hospital a few days after she was born.

Fast forward seven years.
Isabelle is a bright, happy little girl with a younger adopted sister named Skye. Isabelle loves to read, cook, sing, and play outside. She enjoys science and math and is enrolled in her school's program for academically gifted students. She loves God and is a member of her church's Cherub Choir. I couldn't be more proud of her and I don't regret my decision at all. How could I look at abortion the way pro-choice supporters do when I see what that little squirming fetus inside of me became? Through all the pain I experienced, something beautiful was created and I am a better and stronger person for it. I know that I can use my experience to help other girls and women who have gone through the horror of rape and I can use that position to be a witness.

That's my story. Everyone's is different in one way or another and no two are exactly the same. I won't force anyone to subscribe to my beliefs but I strongly encourage young women to really consider what they are doing before they terminate a budding life.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Your story of how you handled your child is awesome though. :) Good for you, going against everyone who told you to get an abortion. Incredible. Thanks for sharing this.

I might not like abortions for what they are, but I do like the fact that women have a right to choose for themselves and it's not a choice made for them by some faceless politicians in Washington who are more concerned with re-election than doing things for the good of the people.

I believe that both abortion and birth control are wrong. I think as Christians, we are meant to trust God with ALL areas of out life. This includes, the number and timing of children.
The Bible mentions a number of times, that God is the opener and closer of the womb. It also mentions that children are a gift from God. Do we choose when we receive gifts?
In Genesis, it mentions that Onan 'spilled his seed on the floor' and that this was evil in the sight of God. This was one - not always effective - form of birth control that we were taught in high school.

With birth control, I have no problem with it. I would much rather someone do that then get pregnant without there being a love for the child that would be produced.

Abortion is a very different matter. The problem is, having heard stories from my Mum's workplace (she worked in Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy, and worked very close with social services), that no two cases can be compared. AT ALL. And even my Mum has admitted that she wouldn't be able to pass judgement on someone for their choices, as NON OF US have the right to at all.

To be honest, I feel that Abortion can only be looked at when the situation requires it. It is not something people can make an easy decision about, contrary to popular belief (my Grandma had to have several for Medical Reasons), and can haunt you for the rest of your life.

However, I entirely dissagree with using Abortion as a form of Birth Control. THAT is wrong.

I think it is wrong. I am not and will not make this choice. However, due to society and medical science, women are free to make their own decisions.

I feel birth control methods should be considered in light of what they are doing to the human body.

I feel knowledge will help make the best decision.

Abortion, I think it is right NEVER.

Abortion is always wrong! Even if I was raped, I believe th child is a living being that God knows and has plans for. Who am I to say God is wrong about a child. From th time of conception th personality and traits of a child is determined, most people don't find out their preg until abot 2 weeks after and th baby, yes, baby has blood running through its body and a heart and mind that knows pain. it saddens me how much a child goes through b4 their even born, th pain and suffering they face from abortin. yea, no one deserves rape and no should hav to go through such a thing, but where in th picture does ur child deserve to suffer as well. What did that child do...
as for birth control as far as what I know their nothing wrong w/ it... but i'm not 100% about it and if I get married I'd definitely check into it to see if it affects a baby already conceived or not...

I remember discussing the story of Onan in my biology class when we were discussing reproduction. What we all agreed about was that the sin did not lie specifically with spilling his seed on the floor but rather his direct disobedience to God's command for Onan to give his deceased brother's widow a child. This verse is often used to condemn masturbation but here's the thing: masturbation is not directly mentioned in the Bible. The practice of self-pleasure was very common in the Greek-speaking world during the Biblical era, and there are several Greek words that mean "to masturbate" but none of these words were included in the Bible. Despite this, some feel that masturbation is an unclean habit with some individuals feeling guilty, dirty, ashamed, or embarrassed for doing it or even thinking of doing it. Knowing this information, we should keep in mind that Romans 14:14 says "I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean." (NIV)

Abortion update:

Twenty-two states enacted 70 abortion restrictions during 2013. This makes 2013 second only to 2011 in the number of new abortion restrictions enacted in a single year. To put recent trends in even sharper relief, 205 abortion restrictions were enacted over the past three years (2011–2013), but just 189 were enacted during the entire previous decade (2001–2010).

More State Abortion Restrictions Were Enacted in 2011–2013 Than in the Entire Previous Decade

These are private decisions. No rule covers all possibilities.
This.

In terms of abortion, the decision should rest with the woman bearing the child up to a certain point. I'm not sure where that point would be, but IMO it seems like that point would be sapience on the part of the fetus. Guess it all depends on how you look at the nature of the soul and mind and where it all stems from and how it comes to be formed.

For birth control that's purely a personal choice, however I think it's a good idea for birth control to be used. If you can't support a child, don't have a child. Not trying to oversimplify but that's the best way I can think of putting it.

In the interest of finance? I say adoption is the best choice. People lay down with one another knowing that birth control is never 100% effective. If god had wanted us to make the choice after the fact we would be like those animals that can self abort when the conditions aren't "just right." But we cant. We are supposed to be smarter than animals. We definitely have the mental capacity and capability to be. Personhood begins when genetic information is combined to make something unique. I became me the second conception took place. People might say "well isn't adoption also expensive"... and yes it could be. Perhaps tax dollars should go TO the children instead of killing babies.

If you want to get abortion to the realistically lowest level, then you have to support birth control and voluntary sterilization. I understand that as a believer, you may think that all three are wrong in light of how you interpret the Bible. But you can't legislate morality, and you can't make the world responsible for living like Christians. There are a lot of factors involved, but I think they can be addressed.

-You have to scientifically and logically protect the personhood of the unborn.
-You also have to support underprivileged mothers and incentivize domestic adoptions.
-Don't shame or punish unwed mothers who chose life over abortion (I'm looking at you, religious schools who fire pregnant teachers).
-Birth control needs to be affordable and easily accessible, as well as prenatal and postnatal care.
-Love people and share the truth of the gospel with them.
-Teach sexual holiness to believers of all ages, instead of sexual prosperity gospel.
-Exercise grace with those who have made sexual and reproductive mistakes, never putting the pro-life cause as more important that individual people.

Amen and I agree wholeheartedly!! Abortion is always wrong..and I am all for birth control. If more women used it before they hopped in bed and went at it, there would not be so many babies born out of one-night stands or wedlock. But nooo, no one ever thinks to have the guy put a condom on!! It takes two people to make a baby..so 2 ppl gotta be responsible for preventing it if it's unwanted. It takes only a few seconds to swallow a pill and put on a condom..those few seconds can save you from hardships down the road..just sayin'..:)
