I was just wondering, are there any Christian bands that sound anything like the Cure? Or are there any bands that really sound "unique", not as mainstream? Not music like what Michael W. Smith makes (though he's good), or Jars of Clay, that big mainstream sound that's so popular today..

I just feel like I listen to wayyy more secular bands and songwriters, people all the way from Randy Newman to Robert Johnson to Nick Drake to the Beatles to B.B. King to Van Morrison to...yeah, it could go on and on. Just looking for any suggestions. Thanks!

Try House of Heroes, Queens Club, Future of Forestry, Children 18:3...
I don't know how hard you like your music though, so I am just naming off a few softer bands.

"As I Lay Dying" is good if you have heavy tastes. Specifically "The Sound of Truth" and "Anodyne Sea" are two good songs by them. Keep in mind they hit some deep and heavy topics though, and definitely aren't most people's cup of tea.

if you like hard stuff For Today(really good metal worship), A Plea For Purging, Haste The Day, Close Your Eyes, I am Alpha and Omega(a bit more mellow metal worship), and my favorite band ever Showbread!
Showbread just came out with a rather mellow, free album you can download at comeandlive.com All the music on that site is free and Christian. I am Alpha and Omega is on that site as well.
For more of a calm slam poetry feel there is Bradly Hathaway.

Hey, thanks for the comments so far...

I'm not really into heavy metal...what I was trying to say is that I just am not into the more mainstream stuff...yet I can't even think how to describe what I AM into! :D

Like pretty much every 80's christian musician had those cheesy synths in their songs...and everything else. IF you look up Randy Newman, or even some group like the Smiths, THAT's what I'm talking about...I just don't knwo if any Christian bands have "that" sound.

...well, guess it's time to start a band, then! XD

Thank you for your answers again...I guess I'm just hard to please :D

Um...maybe a change of question...any good 90's or 80's or 70's or so on and so on Christian bands/ songwriters that are good?

I guess the only thing I don't like about the newer music is how everything blends together....the drums, guuitar, bass, and nothing really stands out except maybe the vocals...and the songs "wear my ears out" after a while because of this.

If there are none of these types of bands, of course I'll still love Christ...I just won't have much music to go along with worship. But that's just me. I can do it through secular music too, but it's a bit harder obviously.
