Ok, let's just go straight to what the Scripture says about it : " 27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:" 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

So to all people who say there's no Scripture who clearly condemns masturbation and the unavoidable lustful thinking associated to it, let's consider the clear teachings from the Scriptures above ! They are very clear, masturbation is a sin ! Intimacy is to be shared with the loved one in marriage only !
Be truly happy in the Lord's Will !

This thread is surprising to me, I figured most Christians thought both masturbation and pornography were wrong. I definitely believe both are wrong, I wouldn't feel right about participating in either. Masturbation and pornography are just going to increase your sexual desires and lustful thoughts, your eyes will be off of Jesus.

Sorry but you can't justify masterbation, it's sin.
When you do it you are lusting. You think you're getting away with it but you arn't because it messes with your mind the same way porn does, and it makes your heart unfaithful to your spouse/future spouse. It can affect and even end a marraige. It can also prevent you from marrying someone wonderful, because when a true Christian is considering you and they sense your liberal attitude towards masturbating, they will possibly back off realizing that your moral compass is skewed.
Honestly, if I was considering whether or not to be with a girl, and her moral compass was so off that she actually believed masturbation was "healthy" and "not a sin" then I wouldn't be with her. Well, I'd explain why I thought it was sinful and if she still thought it wasn't a sin, that's enough to count as "unequally yoked" for me. If she can justify that, what else will she justify?

Porn is definitely bad, as it leads to temptation. I feel that porn and masturbation are interconnected as usually people with addiction to porn are addicted to masturbating. I truly think that porn is only addictive if you allow it, I mean you have the choice to not see it. Many people justify their actions, make excuses, try to limit it, but in reality they make the choice to watch because they simply want to do it. The never ending battle of a porn addict, oh how tough it must be to walk in their shoes!

I've always thought masturbation to be a bad thing... However:
If a guy doesn't masturbate, he'll have a wet dream anyway... Semen builds up and has to be released. And when a guy has a wet dream usually in the dream there's something lustful going on, and no guy can control what's in their dreams. Guys can't stop wet dreams from happening either, so that's why some masturbate.
Girls don't have wet dreams so I guess they technically don't have to consider masturbating.
Masturbation doesn't seem like a good thing though... Because every time i've done it i've had a girl in my mind. It makes me feel perverted if I do it too... So yeah idk. If a guy imagines he's married to/in love with a woman in his mind??? Lol that may or may not be okay. Who knows.
In my church the kids/teens are taught to keep their thoughts pure, but that's way easier said than done, especially for guys because of the wet dreams.

i really don't know. the longest i've been free from it is 6 years. but that was totally a God thing.
then the longest i've gone without since then is 123 days. i feel like...it really is a need. a physiological need.
now there are other factors that make the need far less. and God is definitely one of them.
but i feel like....if God designed it as a part of life. a part of a covenental married life....then sex isn't wrong. and if it's something your body demands while your still single, i don't think it's wrong. is it better to not have to? yeah. it's definitely better. but if you have to? don't burn with lust.

I don't think I have ever heard a sermon on this subject. I wasn't taught to not do it but of course growing up, being influenced by your peers...
Just because something is normal does not in any way shape or form mean that it is a "good thing", or morally upright. In the darker parts of the world rape is a normal thing, and they justify it the same way others justify masturbation, greed, cowardice, too many things.
Humans often fall into the trap of believing things they want to believe. My question to you now is, is it worth the risk?
If someone has an issue with this stuff they need to just get married. That's what Paul said about cases where people just can't seem to stop lusting.

Sex and marriage are definately not wrong. But yeah I can sympathize somewhat. I don't know how it is for a girl, but as guy growing up here in America, it's ridiculously difficult to not lust. Things that cause lust are everywhere, TV, internet, radio, even just out in the general public. Yes, forgive me please women, but when you wear revealing clothing, it causes males to lust.
Regarding the part where you talk abut sexual dreams, they are fairly uncommon for me but they do happen. I don't really feel wierd about it at all, but maybe if I was having dreams like that about a specific person it would be a little disconcerting.

yes but one should never ever just rush into marriage and for the purpose of easing their sex drive...that's the WORST motive for entering a lifelong union.

...I agree with IJWTT --- you don't just 'marry' to fulfil a need, (unless its a exceptional person) ... marriage is a serious thing and God 'hates divorce' period --- divorcing, apart from 'gay relations' --- together with adultery is the worst thing a person can do ... for no valid reason in Gods Eyes ... , so I would say, don't create a 'worse bad' ... just deal with the challenges one is facing with reason and informed intellect - with wisdom - in context ...
(and practise disciplines that give you control (which is not repression but choice and right direction) over mind, emotions, and body functions)
