the sabbath was a type of our rest in christ...so it is a shadow...

like i said...in the same verse in colossians paul -already mentioned- the levitical sabbaths...since there is no reason for paul to list the same sabbaths twice...he must be talking about sabbaths -other than- the levitical sabbaths...and the only other sabbaths those could possibly be are the weekly saturday sabbaths...

maybe jesus was concerned that anyone fleeing on the sabbath would be stoned by pharisaical sabbath obsessed reprobates like you...

nobody is telling anyone to sin...but for a christian to break the sabbath is not a sin...because jesus broke the sabbath yet remained sinless...
The "shadow" clearly was about sacrificing animals as Jesus Christ became our perfect lamb from heaven. Obviously those laws were fulfilled. The sabbath law was about showing that our God is the creator who created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th. Isn't our God still the creator? Are we now His people?

they didn't have to mention loving your enemies because jesus had already taught on that and it was already spelled out in the gospels...the apostles' letter dealt with the observances from the old testament law...

there is no record in scripture of a controversy over the sabbath because -nobody cared- whether you observed the sabbath or not...this confusion over the sabbath really only started in the nineteenth century...
No, the confusion continues. It's just finally being questioned.

P.S. Nobody discussed it in scripture because everyone kept the sabbath. Don't you think it would have been majorly discussed if a Law of God had been changed? As if any disciple would have had that authority anyway, to literally blow off what Christ said and teach men to ignore a commandment of God?

BUT NO YOU WANNA FOLLOW A MAN MADE THEORY TO THINK THAT KEEPING THE SABBATH IS PLEASING TO GOD IN HIS SIGHT, LET ME BREAK IT DOWN FOR YOU. BECAUSE WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, AND DO THOSE THINGS THAT ARE PLEASING IN HIS SIGHT, WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS COMMANDMENT THAT HE IS TELLING US ABOUT? LETS FIND OUT AND THIS IS HIS COMMANDMENT THAT WE SHOULD BELIEVE ON THE NAME OF HIS SON JESUS CHRIST, AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER, AS HE GAVE US COMMANDMENT. AND HE THAT KEEPETH HIS COMMANDMENTS DWELLETH IN HIM, NOW WHAT COMMANDMENTS IS THAT, THAT PROVES WHEN WE OBEY THEM WE DWELL IN HIM? ( And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.) WANT MORE DO YOU WANT TO HERE? THIS IS HIS COMMANDMENT. Josh123. It's your choice. No, you don't have to do what Christ said. He's given you that right. You don't HAVE to keep His commandments if you don't want to.

no the shadow was the entirety of the law

the commands show we cant keep them

the sacrifice shows what has to be done

All fulfilled by CHrist. and in us through Christ.

ok i'm speechless. i've tried my best, nothing more to do here you just read what his commandments is and blatantly choose not to accept it i will just leave this for you and move on 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. [h=3]Luke 9:5 nothing more for me to do here you just choose not to accept it because you don't want to leave the illusion you living in so nothing more i can do but... 5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. Rachel. So you're saying Jesus broke the Law and sinned? The Bible says that Jesus is without sin. I truly hope you see what you are teaching. If Jesus sinned WE HAVE NO SAVIOUR. But Jesus said "i have kept my Father's commandments"- john 15:10
"Which one of you convinceth me of sin?"- John 8:46
Rachel your Jesus is not the Jesus of the Bible. You preach a Jesus who sinned. I don't. So what Jesus really do? He taught them that acts of love and good and healing ARE LAWFUL on the Sabbath day! Jesus would in no wise yield to sin. He was claiming that healing on the Sabbath is in accordance with the Law! "And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? -Luke 14:3"
"Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days"- matthew 12:12

This is what happens when you agree to some parts of Scripture and you ignore the other parts! You come up with conclusions that are not taught by Bible. Did you know that Isaiah prophesied of Christ magnifying the law?
He magnified the sixth law.
He magnified the seventh law.
Magnified the fourth law, when He removed the regulations and burdens of the Pharisees and re set the Sabbath according to its original purpose. To be for man, and not man for it! "Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath"!
"The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable. -Isaiah 42:21"

Jesus does not teach to sin in any way shape or form. No sin can be allowed in heaven. Even the disregard of the least of these commandments costs you your salvation. Please truly think well. Do not come and just argue thinking you are defending God's cause. Do a real study on the ten commandments and see for yourself. Keeping sunday holy is pure pagan tradition, that DID catch up on the church of Christ. But paul already did say, that "the mystery of iniquity doth already work"!- 2 thessalonians 2:7! Paul saw the mystery of lawlesness and disobedience already working. Mind you, did you forget how many who thought they were doing miracles in Jesus' name, and casting out devils, meet at the day of God with disappointment? Why? What did Jesus tell them? He said "i never knew you, depart from me, ye that work iniquity[sin]".- matthew 7:23 jesus never knew them! Knowing Him is keeping His commandments! 1 john 2:4.
Please keep the Law of God, because only those that keep it will have a right to enter through the gates and eat of the tree of life. Rev 22:14. This is NOT the time to love sin above your Lord. The end of the world is coming upon us, and what makes you so sure that you will repent in the future? Was not the fate of Saul a fearful warning? How step by step he taught himself to disobey God, until he sealed his doom against God? Please. It's not the time to love sin! Jesus loves you and wants you to be saved! This is NOT the time to triffle with His mercy. I beg you stop. And turn back, and repent!
the bible says -flat out- that jesus broke the sabbath...

john 5:18..."For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God."

you cannot use either of the following 'outs' to avoid this scripture...

you cannot claim that he only broke the sabbath traditions of the pharisees...because john doesn't write that...john plainly writes that jesus 'was breaking the sabbath'...
you also cannot claim that he was only accused of breaking the sabbath by the pharisees...because john doesn't write that either...john is not quoting the pharisees and he doesn't say they sought to kill him 'because they thought he was breaking the sabbath'...instead john is writing down holy spirit inspired narrative that plainly states that jesus 'was breaking the sabbath'

to claim anything other than that jesus broke the sabbath is to depart from the meaning of the text...

now i am not saying that jesus sinned when he broke the sabbath...in fact that is the entire point...when he broke the sabbath it was -not- a sin...

here is how jesus can break the sabbath without sinning...

matthew 12:5..."Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and are innocent?"

so a priest may break the sabbath to do God's work and still remain innocent of sin...

and guess what? the bible says that -all of us- are priests...

1 peter 2:9..."But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."

so we are -all- priests and therefore all of us can break the sabbath to do God's work and still be innocent of sin...just as the old testament priests did...

and when are we doing God's work?

1 corinthians 10:31..."Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."

-everything- we do can be done to the glory of God...

when we work...we work to the glory of God...and so any work we do on the sabbath is done in service to God...therefore we may break the sabbath by working -without- being guilty of sin...

we are priests serving under what is basically a perpetual exemption from the sabbath law...we can break the sabbath to peform our priestly duty of work to the glory of God and yet be innocent of sin...

Yah, and this stemmed from their acceptance of the Millerite prophecy of Christ's 2nd coming in 1843. Later Miller repented for being wrong, but the SDA church led by Ellen White spiritualized this prophecy away with "investigative judgment" doctrine stating that after 1843, Jesus was no longer an adversary for in the believer, and believer has to stand alone before God and give an account for how obedient they were.

AND the SDA promoters on this site say we clutch onto modern day reformed theology, while their false doctrines came after the reformation period began...Duh!!!
i actually believe that the false prophecy of the millerites is the sin that the adventists are currently being judged for...that judgment being the spirit of confusion God sent to them through ellen white...which is the origin of the many false doctrines they teach...

The Lord of the Sabbath

3But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions, 4how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone? 5"Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and are innocent?

Isn't Jesus our High Priest?
this is actually a very good observation...now understand that in light of what peter says about we ourselves being a priesthood...

this is the truth that blows most sabbath keepers' minds...we can break the sabbath and be no less obedient to the law than they...

We've been through this, Rachel. Jesus is our High Priest. The priests in the temple broke the sabbath by working on the sabbath, but they weren't guilty.

Jesus uses this example knowing full well that the Pharisees didn't think that David or the High Priest had sinned when the High Priest gave David the holy Bread, which was only for the priests (Lev. 24:8-9). The Pharisees had reasoned that it fell under preservation of life, which for them, would overrule the law that only the priests could eat the holy Bread. Jesus used this example to speak to Pharisaic perception about the incident, but the reason why the High Priest gave the holy Bread to David rested not on hunger (preservation of life), but on the fact that David spoke of being on a mission from the king.

David asked the High Priest for some bread, but the only food that he had was the Bread of the Presence. Only the priests were allowed to eat the 12 loaves of the holy Bread that had been in the Presence of God in the Holy Place upon the gold Table. The loaves were taken out each sabbath after having been there for a week and were replaced with 12 fresh loaves. The priests were commanded to eat them in a holy place (on the holy Tabernacle grounds) and there was no provision for anyone else to eat the holy Bread.

Again, Jesus is our High Priest, and even He who is Lord of the sabbath did not break any of His laws.

Again, verse five is very important when analyzing the previous verse.

And only someone meaning to pervert scriptures would say that love meant you didn't need to keep God's commandments.

"If you love Me, keep My commandments."

What really convinces me to keep the sabbath on Saturday (as we know it) (aside from all the scriptural proof, I mean) is how hard people fight against that. If I'm simply misguided, why should anyone care? At worst, I'm just a weak Christian. But that evidently isn't the thinking of those that fight against keeping the sabbath on the 7th day of the week as God originally instructed, because it obviously bothers them so much that they attack with all their might those that believe that law should never have been changed. That's what really makes me sit up and take notice.
if you want to observe the sabbath by resting on saturday then i don't care...just like paul didn't care what you ate...that is up to you and your conscience...

what -does- annoy me is when people try to impose their personal observances on everyone else...and thus far i have only met one or two sabbath keepers who -don't- do that...

it -especially- annoys me when sabbath keepers claim that anyone that doesn't adhere to their personal observance is going to be taking the mark of the beast...since there is absolutely no scriptural support for such a notion and it comes entirely from the eschatology of ellen white...

what really convinces me that sabbath keeping is false doctrine is all of the scriptures that sabbath keepers twist and misinterpret in order to make their personal conviction into a requirement for the entire church...they display an obvious spirit of confusion...which i already commented on elsewhere in this thread...
