YOU NEVER WILL, HEAR GOD SPEAK VERBALY IN YOUR EAR. PEOPLE WHO DO HAVE SOME REAL ISSUES. I BELIEVE WHAT SOME COUNFUSE HEARING GOD IS WHEN THEY GET AND AND SPIRTUAL THOUGHT IN THERE MIND. THEY THINK THAT IS GOD TALKING TO THEM. IF YOU LOOK AT IT THAT WAY GOD TALKS NON-STOP EVERY DAY TO EVERYONE.

HE'S NOT GOING TO SPEAK TO ME OR YOU LIKE HE DID TO FATHERS IN THE OT.

SO READ YOUR BIBLE TALK TO HIM. GO FIND A CHURCH OF CHRIST NEAR YOU AND BEGAIN A NEW LIFE IN CHRIST.
WHAT A CROCK THIS POST IS!! "YOU NEVER WILL, HEAR GOD SPEAK VERBALLY" ?? People do hear Him speak verbally. God is not a respector of persons. He did it in the OT times and He STILL does it (for He changes not) in these NT times. "PEOPLE THAT DO HAVE REAL ISSUES"?? Really?? Why? Because YOU have never heard audible His voice yourself???...so therefore no one else can?? Well I have...only once...two words, "Help him". He said it twice. Where do you get off, parablepete in spouting these untruths about the Lord? You are right about this part "HE'S NOT BOING TO SPEAK TO ME"...and do you know why He won't? Because you have already made up your mind not to hear Him.

And you have the audacity to say "SO READ YOUR BIBLE TALK TO HIM"...Really??? Wouldn't that be a ONE-SIDED conversation?? You think that He thinks so little of us that He will not answer us? You, parablepete, speak as one that does not KNOW, personally KNOW, the Lord.

christians fighting about whether God talks to people.... awesome

also im pretty sure you are both right or at least a biblical case could be made for both sides.

So who is correct? Who knows?

I have heard God before in my head but never audibly.
why would God need to speak audibly anyway if he is already in your head?
plus the fact that sound waves need a source so if God was using sound waves wouldn't that be detectable?
the human brain is a powerful thing which can easily trick our senses (keep that in mind)

I have been a christian for 6 years but i still cant hear god speaking to me through prayer or reading, i do find this really hard.

There has been people had messages for me out of church and things like that, but i would love to hear more
Hi, Uhaire. I read your post and can only share with you two of my experiences that concern hearing from God and two passages about it. I hope you find some hope in this:

1. In 1998, I had an encounter with God and began to pursue Him for the first time in my life. I kept praying to hear and know His voice so that I could do His will. I kept specifically praying to know His voice as we can hear Him and not know it (keep that in mind). One day, watching Christian TV, I started falling asleep. Right in that point between wakefulness and sleep, the man on TV was reading from the Bible or prophesying and said, "... and you will know My voice." When He said that, God said simultaneously to me in a booming voice (not audible though), "You will know My voice." I sat straight up and looked around as this electric energy ran through me. Because I'd been asking to know His voice (not just hear it) so I could do His will, God had said together with the man on TV, "You will know My voice", telling me in a clever way that I would be able to distinguish His voice (know/discern it) from the voices of others as surely as He'd just distinguished it for me from the voice of the man on TV. (It was pretty cool for Him to be so practical.)

2. On June 8, 2007, a lady was giving me a prophetic word (this is the main message I want to get across to you as concerns 'knowing' God's voice) and said this to me (I still remember it word for word): "You hear God. You think that 'Maybe I don't hear You, Lord', but you hear Him..." In following years, I realized that she was right (in fact, when she was speaking to me, I felt that she was right); I'd been hearing God for a long time, but I didn't know it since I didn't know how to distinguish His voice yet from other voices around me.

3. "Why do you say of Him that He answers none of man's words? For God does speak-- now one way, now another-- though man may not perceive it" (Job 33:13-14).

I believe that you hear God already as I was hearing Him... but that you don't know what He sounds like or how to listen. When He spoke to Samuel several times, Samuel didn't know it was God (he heard but didn't know) until he was told to and did say to God, "Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening." It took an older person in God (Eli) to teach Samuel not to hear God's voice (as Samuel was already hearing) but to know it. You probably aren't being taught how to know God's voice, because He speaks often; but it's us who "may not perceive it." God speaks to everyone who wants to hear and especially do His will. He has been speaking to you, but you don't yet know it. I would encourage you to start this way: pray and ask God to show you how He speaks to you or how He wants to speak to you. Does He primarily speak to you through thoughts, impressions, dreams, visions, your pastor, etc.? If you can find where God speaks to you first (His primary way of speaking to you), you will begin to hear and realize He has been speaking to you all this time.

One more thing as an example: I knew a minister-- two of them-- who had pretty much become apostate and no longer served God. When I came to their church, God spoke to me about some things in their church that needed attention and confirmed it through several others there and several times. When I wondered why He didn't tell the ministers instead, I learned that He had been telling them... but that they weren't listening anymore (like King Saul in his last days). In fact, the lady minister, after I shared something God told me about some people in her church who were wolves in sheep's clothing, shared with me later that God gave her a dream: in the dream, she was eating with these people, and their dog ate about 2/3 of the journal where she wrote what God said to her. What was the meaning of this dream? Jesus told a parable about a sower who went out to sow seed; some of the seed fell on hard soil (unreceptive hearts). Unable to sink into the soil, the seeds remained on the surface where birds (the enemy) then came and stole them. The lady's dream meant that because the woman wasn't receiving or hearing or responding to God's voice, the enemy (the dog) was eating it up. The lady knew and acknowledged the meaning. Ask God how He primarily speaks to you. If He uses someone in your life and you reject what they say for whatever reason (maybe you don't like or trust them), then the enemy will snatch away His words so you can't perceive them. But if He is speaking to you through someone primarily and you receive His words from them, then you will begin to hear Him. Is there anyone that has maybe been telling you something that you may not like to hear-- something about your life that you are rejecting? It can be anyone: a friend, parent, an ex, etc. If you receive His words, no matter who is speaking, then His voice will be released to you. He often doesn't move us to the next step till we do the first step. It seems to me that you may very well be rejecting His voice through a source you don't approve or a source you don't expect Him to speak from. Strongly consider this possibility. As Paul said to Timothy, "Consider what I say, and the Lord will give you understanding in all things" (2Tim. 2:7).

Acts 9: [SUP]3 "[/SUP]As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. [SUP]4 [/SUP]He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” [SUP]5 [/SUP]“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. [SUP]6 [/SUP]“Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
[SUP]7 [/SUP]The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone."
You don't have to see someone to hear them.
Not all that Heard God, recognized it as His voice.
Those that are born of God...born again, can hear His voice if He chooses. Those not born again, CAN...as the above scripture proves.

I object, scripture does not prove anything, it only relays information.
The text only says that Saul saw a bright light, and heard some one speaking to him that no one could see. That is not proof that God audibly speaks to anyone because you dont know where the light came from or where the sound came from. You even have to infer that God was the one speaking, how do you know it was God? How did saul know it was God?
i haven't even addressed whether the actual event occurred as the text says since this at least a 3rd hand account of the story.

How does this example scripture fit in with the belief that God doesn't speak to us?

2Co 12:9
(9) But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
I am not saying Jesus did not speak to the Apostels, He did, We know that Jesus talked to Paul on the road to damasca. But, after Jesus will come into effect he no longs speaks to EXECPT threw his WORD.

If you are hearing voices auditably and not just imgaining them(I can think and hear my cousins vioce, but, I have heard it 10,000 times) we have heard what people THINK God sounds like. It just not going to has never happened sense Jesus died and his church has been built.

I am setting at this PC and If I heard a voice it would scare me for a while to figured what is was. I live on a road, could be someone needing help. Negihbors needing something. BUT, Jesus...God....NO WAY! Not going to happen.

God answers us in so many different ways, and often we don't realize, but will see His answers when we look back. Matthew 21:22 "If you believe, you will recieve whatever you asked for in prayer".
Philippians 4:6 ...." The Lord is near. Do not be anxoius about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving , present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus". God will give peace to our hearts as part of our answer. Then can we know our answer will come soon if not at the moment. Blessings always

But, after Jesus will come into effect he no longs speaks to EXECPT threw his WORD. You are neither right, nor an authority on the matter. What you are saying is just OPINION and you canNOT back it up with Scripture.

If you are hearing voices auditably and not just imgaining them(I can think and hear my cousins vioce, but, I have heard it 10,000 times) we have heard what people THINK God sounds like. It just not going to has never happened sense Jesus died and his church has been built. Again, OPINION, not FACT.

How pathetically sad that you believe this lie from the pit. GOD DOES NOT CHANGE. He spoke to people audibly then and still does now. You will Not find in scripture that He doesn't. God is gentle. IF He spoke to you, you would not become fearful...He is THAT gentle. You might be surprised....curious...intrigued but not scared.
Are you, parablepete, proposing to me that I did not hear God audibly? Really? Were you there? Did you see me turn my head to the right to see who it was that said "Help Him"? No. You cannot spout your personal opinions as TRUTH!!! All you do by doing so is to hinder others in their walk.

Welcome to the club. I don't hear God speak to me either. But I can look into his Bible and read his messages for myself. However, I have been a believer in Christ for about 18-odd years. And I have had some really strange moments where it seemed like God had taken the time to send a personal message meant only for me. But voices? Never had 'em.

These claims of hearing God speak audibly create elitism and confusion within the body of Christ. God does not speak audibly to individuals today. We have the sufficient Scripture which He uses to communicate. If you are hearing voices you should seriously consider seeing a doctor.
