We should pray for our leaders without doubt. God raises up kings and brings them down. God also gives a nation a leader that they deserve. I believe our current leader is a reflection of our evil hearts.
Yes, according to
1 Timothy 2:1-2 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
[SUP]2 [/SUP] For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
In the context of how all governments worked, that was about the only voice of the governed, seeking intervention from God. Ordinary citizens didn't have opportunity to speak with kings, or circulate petitions to change laws.
In America we are blessed with the right to vote, but before that challenge leaders in power, and candidates seeking elected office, and support the ones we choose. I can call people on the phone, set out campaign signs, and all sorts of tasks to help the process.
I will not pray that any leader in government is successful in what is right in his/her own eyes. We are praying that God who gave man governments will bless those that are righteous, allow curses from Satan upon those working against righteousness of Christ. That is how I look at praying "for" leaders, asking God to intervene protecting the governed, and guarding the righteous leaders. Paul carried out that plan on the man in 1 Cor 5, and it is for the Church to do so when needed.
As for our President, he reflects the evil of his supporters that were willing to let America go to the dogs and take whatever nation that rose up, in the name of "change" of any brand. Many of us worked hard to correct the misconceptions of youths and adults up to about age 30 that have been corrupted towards the concept of freedom/liberty. We didn't recognize their problem or respond in time. Now after the great damage is done it appears many of those realize their error, but lack wisdom to know what to do next. People like that seem to tend to run in circles all their lives. It's like trying to get the attention of your dog that is busy chasing it's own tail.
Pray that God will find enough righteous in America to fix our nation, neutralizing the corrupted voters' ability to repeat their awful deeds of raw ignorance in the voting booths.
