here is my view: Paul talked about things that had happened in those verses that you mentioned. not things that might happen. when you judge the POTINTIAL of sin, this is what is called being judgemental. so, you have you use the Bible , not just certain verses, but as whole. Jason, I admire your commitment, but you are mis-guided. we should be careful not to sin, but neither should we judge what might happen.
However, your view is not what the Bible says, though. Paul clearly warns us about not falling into potential sin. For example, Paul warns us of the dangers of loving money. He said some have coveted after it and have erred from the faith. Meaning, they had faith and they turned away from the faith. They erred. Then Paul admonishes that the man of God should flee these type of things and he is to follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, etc. instead.
"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."
(1 Timothy 6:10-12).
In other words, Paul is warning against the potential to sin of loving money for the believer here. For he is telling them to flee these things before any bad (like piercing oneself thru with many sorrows) can happen.
Here is another passage where Paul warns us to flee potential sin:
"Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."
(1 Corinthians 6:18-20).
Paul tells us to flee a particular sin (Which in this case is Fornication). This is the potential to sin. He is telling us to flee it before it can happen. In addition, in the 1st epistle of John, he warns us to keep ourselves from idols.
"Keep yourselves from idols." (1 John 5:21).
Again, this is a warning not to fall prey to a particular sin that has not happened yet. So no, I do not see your view in Scripture in warning others against not fleeing potential sins. We are to keep ourselves in love of God. For we know the Scriptures say that without holiness no man shall see the Lord.
