Wanted to bring topic back up to share something.
My wife gave birth to our 3rd son (5th child) 2 weeks ago, praise God. We had him circumcised on the 8th day (Lev. 12:3) in our home by a Jewish Rabbi, or Moel. We had our 2nd son circumcised when he was 8 days old by a pediatrician and the procedure took around 15 minutes and was terrible and painful to watch. (I'm still glad we circumcised him, I just wish it had happened differently.)
The Moel did the whole thing in 1 minute, (1 minute!) with as minimal pain as a circumcision can have. As soon as the Rabbi picked my son up he stopped crying and has only cried when we changed his bandage.
Spiritual lesson? As important as physical circumcision is, circumcision of the heart is far more important. When our hearts have to be circumcised by events and situations from the "world," (i.e. pediatrician) it can be long and painful, albeit still effective.
When we willingly allow God to be the one to circumcise our hearts (The Moel is a picture of that,) it can be done so much more quickly, easily and effectively (albeit still painful.)
Obviously, there are MANY spiritual differences and disagreements we have with the Moel, but the whole procedure was so much more peaceful and meaningful than with my other boys.
