1Sa 25:22 So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.
1Sa 25:34 For in very deed, as the LORD God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.
1Ki 14:10 Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away dung, till it be all gone.
1Ki 16:11 And it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he slew all the house of Baasha: he left him not one that pisseth against a wall, neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friends.
1Ki 21:21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,
2Ki 9:8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:

So is it just the English translation or do we need to study the Hebrew?

For the cause of Christ

I believe piss is in the KJV, that word can be used in a wrong spirit but psychologically it seems unclean in a general sense.

The words bastard and ***** are not curse words at their root but can be used to curse...

But if someone is offended by my particular word usage then I would stop using such words or phrases around them for their sake.(like I have here in the past lol) And I'm not talking about obvious words or phrases but ones that can offend for any reason. Kind of the same with food, if you eating a particular food around someone offends them, don't eat it for the sake of their weakness.

Here's what's interesting about cursing and the English language--most "curse" words are Anglo-Saxon in origin while their euphemisms are Norman (French/Latin). This had to do with the Norman invasion, so words like "ass" were replaced with words like "derriere." Pretty much every four-letter curse word in English was Anglo-Saxon. Some "impolite" words (such as the "fart" mentioned by Sirk) are also Anglo-Saxon. Here's how you can (often) tell--the word will be short (usually one syllable) and have a lot of hard sounds...particularly a hard ending (c, k, d, t, etc.)

After the UK was Christianized, other curse words developed based on blaspheming aspects of the church (bloody is from "by our Lady", zounds is from "his wounds", etc). Of course, there are always new lewd terms that arise from slang like Cockney rhyming slang or hip-hop, etc.

The bible doesn't address particular words because, frankly, it would have been impossible to do so (after all, if XYZ is unacceptable in the Ancient Hebrew, is the version in another language better or not)? However, the bible does tell us not to take God's name in vain. Additionally, there are euphemisms used in the Bible. For example, they say, "And Adam LAY with his wife and she bore him a son," instead of something more vulgar. Also, I know there are places in the OT where they reference a man's "foot" when they mean his genetalia. So, even ancient cultures had a sense of appropriateness with language--that some terms are crude and not for public use.

When I first read the title of this thread I took it this way...'What' is a dirty word.

Now after reading these posts thus far I must admit, out of all the high falutent, theological hot air expressed on CC that I have read, this one leaves me asking, "WHAT the heck???

Back to the op, yes the preacher was wrong. He was in church, yet he was afraid someone in the congregation, like sirk, would teehee or snicker when he preached.
He was wrong for saying donkey?

For crying out loud you can't make this stuff up.

He threw a bomb annnnnd he's gone. Typical everyday troll. Cant even answer simple questions.
Hardly a bomb... more like a fart ;)
More like a fart in a fan factory!
Could you really say the f--t word if you saw Jesus standing right in front of you? I've asked God to put me in an isolated place in heaven away from all the potty mouth Christians. Hope He does.
Its the Christian potty mouth church socials I staid away from till He finally told me to come out from the Babylonian church altogether. Judgemental you say? You bet.
You have a pretty hard line against what you consider dirty words. Tell me, what makes a word dirty?
Fart is a dirty word? I would've thought waxing not at all eloquently about the evils of pastors and tithing in a cesspool of bitterness for the past year or more is a bit more serious! And Yet, I'm not surprised. Not at all.
C'mon, man... it's nothing to make a stink over. ;)

Ba-dum kshhhhh
Might this explain some of it?

So when was the last time you ate anything offered to idols? Everyone should be persuaded in their own mind what is acceptable for them.

Who knows? I didn't ask for the sake of conscience as Paul said.

I think it depends on how it's used. There are obvious ones but if someone says like "WHAT THE FLIP" you know what they mean in their head.

American corruption or to save the wrath coming my way, the variation of spelling and pronouncation and how the language is changed.

ASS is a donkey.

Arse is the mild bad word to mean backside, which sounds totally different from Ass.

Fanny means backside, but of course that is also a slang word that means Vagina, which of course meets with embarasment and uncomfortable looks and having to explain to an old Aunt that those pesky Yanks are taking over and Fanny means something totally different.

Doin't worry about offending someone with what you eat if you're not worried about it. That concept doesn't have any place in our society today.
