Does the way we walk matter to God and to our Salvation? Many say all we need to do is just believe in the man Jesus as the Son of God and nothing else is required on our part. But did not the devils also believe Jesus was the Son of God as well in Matthew 8:28? Even James says here in James 2:19-20 “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.[SUP]20 [/SUP]But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”
So I say there must be more to this great Salvation in Jesus Christ than just believing who He is. I believe a true faith in Jesus Christ will produce an obedient walk of faith by Christ our righteousness working in us, which is God working and walking in us (2 Corinthians 6:16)
I say if God is truly walking in you, then you will also walk with God in righteousness, as two cannot walk together except they be agreed.
It is written in Genesis 5:24 “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” How do you suppose Enoch walked with the invisible God? I believe it was only accomplished by walking in the Way God had instructed Enoch to walk through God’s Word and Spirit bearing witness to Enoch’s spirit.
We are given a similitude of the Way that leads us to Eternal Life after man had sinned in Genesis 3:24 “So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”
Jumping forward into the future we see that the Word of God is the Way, the Truth, and the Life when Jesus said in John 14:4-6 “And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.[SUP]5 [/SUP]Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?[SUP]6 [/SUP]Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Following what the Word of God has directed for us to do has always been the way for man to walk as shown here in what God said of Abraham in Genesis 18:19 “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”
Again keeping in the way is abiding in the words of God as shown here in Deuteronomy 8:6 “Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.” Deuteronomy 11:22 “For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;”
Jesus said in John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Jesus also said in John 11:10 “But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.”
Abiding in the ways of the world is also to abide in darkness, but to abide in the ways of the Lord is to abide in the Light of God’s words which are like a lamp to light our way in a darkened world.
The ways of the world and of the flesh are the broad path that leads to destruction, but to abide in the words and walk in the ways of God is the narrow path we are called to walk in, abide in, and told not to depart from.
Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:[SUP]14 [/SUP]Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
