Okay,
Learn an instrument and either play it for secular things or even things against God orrr
Play it to glorify God

Which one?
And how is the second bad?!?!?!

It's really just a matter of common sense...

You can't give scripture to prove your point!!!
I liked what Willie said.

The Bible didn't say we could use cars, so many many Christians sin every day

The Bible didn't say we could use toothbrushes so everyone (I hope lol) is sinning.

I'm sorry but this is just plain ridiculous
The bible doesn't say that the use toilet paper is permitted either. The bible has mention of various grains so I guess the use of a corn cob would be acceptable under certain circumstances.

i play the violin. i can play the guitar. there have been times i'm playing the guitar, and God gives me words to sing.

i'm also a member of the music team at my local assembly. i have seen how Holy Spirit ministers to individuals during music time (as we sing and play instruments). it's a beautiful thing.

Jesus has set us free :D

I'm going to make an analogy ..... Life is a cooking competition, God has given us a cookie recipe (bible) and tells us to make chocolate chip cookies (as the recipe says) ...... The judging comes (judgement day) and Judger(God) looks around and says "why are thee so many different kinds of cookies? I see some with raisins(a denomination) I see an oatmeal cookie(a cult) and I even see some muffins(a different religion) ! How hard was it to make the right chocolate cookies? I told you not to add to the recipe or to take from it (revelations 22:18-19)! Why is there so many kinds? Why did you add oatmeal or take away butter?" Only the right chocolate chip cookies win the prize (heaven) and the wrong cookies get burned(hell)....... This is what the judgement will look like.... You call me legalistic I call it including all of the ingredients! You say instrumental music is fine"I'm sure God is pleased with these peanut butter chips"(instrumental music) ... God won't be pleased with the wrong kind of cookies(worship)!

Hmmm... interesting analogy. You have put yourself in a very small logical box. Because you assert that only what is explicitly specified in Scripture is acceptable, you may not utilize anything outside of Scripture. Again, by your own method of interpretation, you are in error. Good luck explaining your way out!

Let me give you an analogy right back... Jesus is the Baker. He makes the cookies however He chooses, and because He loves us, He invites us into the kitchen to enjoy them with Him. He is pleased with us not because of how we made the cookies, but because we accept His gracious gift and delight in it, and in Him.

When God already gives us instructions and we decide to add past that it is sin!
So, you have added past that.
The Bible doesn't say it allows technology but you are using it.

Give me scripture to support your analogy!

Sir Derp, sir,
Who are you or your denomination to decide what kind of cookies God the Father wants to give His children?

How do you know that He doesn't have a variety for all us different kids.

Maybe He makes kitchen sink cookies that has EVERYthing in them, and you're plucking out all the raisins?

For the last time, feel free to worship any way you want.

I really hope and pray you come to faith and salvation in Christ alone and get set free from the bondage of dictatorial church trappings and fear-laced performance.

Jesus loves you.
He paid it all for you.

He wants you to rejoice in the freedom He shed His blood to give you.

But if you don't want that, okay, but you trying to tell us how we should respond to His salvation is getting us all nowhere, so you might as well give it up.

Now, where's magenta and jesuslives, I need a cookie.

We are making cookies for God and I know the kind of cookies he wants us to make because he gave us the recipe! And he says there is one body one God and one church! One kind of cookie.

Be careful around a hot oven, you might get burned.
Best to leave the cooking to the Master Chef.

Only you, Jer. (Well.... No, I probably would have said that, too.)

He already gave his son and y'all want him to do the rest of the work to ........ Marathons are extremely taxing and hard ...... Battles are tuff and difficult...... The Christian life is compared to both ,..... Christianity isn't easy and it isn't God's work to get us there ..... He provided the path we have to walk on it!

You have nailed the problem, exactly. And, frankly it is kind of surprising they do that, because The Churches of Christ are very possibly the most aggressive (though not all that accurate) group of Believers I have been a part of when it comes to Bible Study. I spent a couple of decades in Bible School there, and I have to credit the CoC with giving me the background I now enjoy. There is hardly a word of Scripture I hear that I do not almost instantly see in my mind's eye, thanks to them.

However, I have also had to spend almost as much time "unlearning" erroneous doctrine I was ingrained with there.

The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

This is embarrassing to me now, but as CoC "scholars" we actually used to pride ourselves in being a form of modern day Pharisee. (Some of us even called ourselves that.)

Thank you, nice of you to say that, and I'm so glad the Lord led you out of that, and that you are taking those lessons and putting them to good use to help others like us here, and to God's glory.

It's good for God's kids to dwell in peace together. :)

Sorry for the few 'words' before, I'm still a work in progress.
And before anything else ever gets said,
let's let it always be, 'WHAT words'?
God bless you. Thank you, Jesus. Peace.
