Unfortunately im going to have to go back to work on Tuesday (I work part time 3 days)
so I will be doing a lot of sitting.

They have sent me a letter and it looks like I'm going to get a written warning for
being off sick. The trigger point is 21 days and I've been off just over 3 week by the
time I go back. I had already decided I would go back to work before I got the
letter. Even though I have been to doctors 4 times and got valid sick notes, they
still take disciplinary action.

As far as I can see from the information they sent, they will expect me to improve my
sickness absence by not taking any more sick leave for at least 6 months. So if my
back goes again or I need additional treatment/surgery etc for the sciatica, then it's
pretty much tough!

Ive got a meeting with them later this week, so prayers that I don't get ill again would
also be appreciated.

The last time I had a sick note before this year was 11 years ago and I've worked for them
19 years but that does not seem to count for anything. :(
Hi I thought it would be good to give testimony for answered prayer.

I was due to have some physio just before Christmas, but everything cleared
up by itself. So I cancelled the appointment and I've been fine since.

The sickness disciplinary hearing has been hanging over me since I returned
to work. But last week I was looking up my personnel records to book some leave
and I saw the case had just been closed! Several times I was told by my line
manager that i would get a written warning following a disciplinary hearing. But she
was too busy to arrange it. Now the matter has just been closed off with no further
action taken. :D It looks like she forgot and because it's gone over the time limit it's
too late now for any action.

Praise God!

That is awesome news. God is good.

Also it is so encouraging to hear what has happened, it reminds us that God hears and answers prayers.

I’ve known a few people who, on occasion, would get Sciatic nerve pain attacks. In most cases that I’ve seen, it seemed to be either a weight, stress, diet, or dehydration induced onset. The crushing or stretching of the nerve causes the inflammation and pain. Often times if the Sciatica is weight related (too much weight applied to the nerve while sitting or lying down), then those persons may also expect an increased probability of irritating the nerve under their feet too. This is known as Plantar Fasciitis.

Muscle fatigue, dehydration, and stiffness can also irritate the nerve. As Willie_T touched on, there are exercises that can help stretch and loosen the muscles. Staying hydrated helps keep the muscles more elastic and less likely to cramp or cause irritation. Consuming electrolytes is important too, especially when you are drinking a lot of water (which flushes them out). I would also recommend possibly taking a magnesium supplement nightly.

There are many ways that Sciatic pain can happen so it’s just kind of a trial and error thing. The strangest one I saw was with one of my old friends. He was actually lactose intolerant. One day he drank about 2 glasses worth of real milk on accident. He got really bloated from it, and then strangely, started to get really intense sciatic nerve pain.

Apparently, just from the bloating, all the muscles that wrap around the lower abdomen were being pushed and stretched from the pressure. I think that the stretching of these muscles must have stretched other muscles, causing irritation to the sciatic nerve. Kind of a strange way to have it happen to you lol.

Anyways, glad to hear that you are pain free and doing good. Hopefully you'll never have to deal with this again :)

That sucks. I’ve been fortunate enough never to have experienced that yet. I’ve had my fair share of accidents (most of them outdoors) but nothing too severe. The people that I’ve seen with Sciatic injuries could barely walk, if at all. Must be excruciating. Good thing that in most cases it's only temporary.

In my case I had a slipped/herniated disc, I pulled my back 3 times within the space of a few weeks.
First time it slipped, second time it made it much worse, third time I ended up with a trapped nerve
causing the worst of the sciatica. But praise God everything worked out.

Apparently slipped/herniated discs are pretty common until the age of 50-60ish. Then the discs
in the back start to harden and there is less risk of it occurring.

Read my "lessons learned through my pain" thread.. That happened in December of 2014.I was stuck in bed for over 5 months with it. Got hospitalized for 3 days, 2 ER visits, 3 steroid shots in my back, and over 2 years later, I'm still dealing with after-effects of it.. It's made my left leg rather weak.. Been to PT 3 times..

Yeah, a coworker of mine has Lumbar problems. Every once in a while, he’ll get a pinched nerve. I think he wears some kind of a back brace now, which seems to have helped him. Seems like back problems can be some of the most unpleasant problems to have. Glad you're doing good though :)
