Okay, now I am confused LOL because I thought one chapter was all that was assigned as well:

I have no idea when I last read 1984. I know I saw the movie in a double
feature paired with Brazil about thirty or so years ago. Very bleak combo :p

Well I suppose we shall appeal to our fearless leader Galatea then and see the final ruling on the reading requirement if it is one or 3 chapters a week. Obviously I thought one as well, but I went back and read the OP at Mr. Corbiscam's post making me think I'm lagging behind frankly. Lol Willie might all ready be on chapter 4! Lol still have not finished The Bible or the Aeneid quite yet. Never juggled three books at once yet lol so am guilty of slacking on 1984 lol. My plan here was just gonna post about each chapter as I read it and then just reply to anything particularly insightful or in response to other responses to my prompt or response lol.

Well I voted L'Mort D'arthur in the poll, so was wanting to read that with close runners up in my mind was gonna be Homer or Brave New World. Frankly was a little disheartened to see 1984 win, didn't like it the first time and didn't want to read it again. After the first chapter though and our Two Minute Hate against it I am now actually kinda eager to read on. I like this actually where it is going, the discussion on it makes it fun adds a whole new dynamic to the reading of it. First E-book ever I done also (used one of the link from the OP for anyone that is needing the free copy.) Lol I had a hard copy of 1984, but I think I sold it or misplaced it. Never seen the movie before, so might check that out a bit later maybe alter we finish the book. and see if I can locate it and view it since so many of you all here acclaim it highly.

Actually, I'm on Chapter 3 of the Second part. I think that would be Chapter 11, in total so far.

I voted for this book because I had to read it for class anyways.

I really dislike it and I've barely finished the second chapter :p
It's not a happy book, by far- but a good indictment against communism/socialism. It amazes me that Socialists can claim it as theirs, but it is interesting to see their interpretations.

Lol Don't you remember the GOP's big gripes with Trump in the primaries though? That he isn't a "real" Republican, or as Cruz, a perfect example of a 1984 GOPer put it; "he has New York values, not conservative values." They're actually right too lol, Trump isn't conservative at all, he hijacked their party. Even after winning the GOP nomination look how Paul Ryan accused him of basically thoughtcrimes against the GOP for the things he said. Even after winning the Presidency look how McCain and Graham accuse him of being out of the Party orthodoxy for wanting closer ties with Russia and for banning muslims.

The Democrats did rig their election against Bernie indeed, but Bernie wasn't even a member of the DNC and they gave him vast rewards from key speaker events to even a beach house allegedly. Even like John the Savage's father when his crime of reproducing is discovered they simply force him to resign just like with Debbie they merely made her step down from chairmanship. The Dems with how they did Bernie are way more like Brave New World where after John the Savage and my favorite character Helmholtz even though they go against the law of BNW are basically "punished" by being rewarded to exile to their favorite destinations.

Basically the typical two party set up in America has been between the party of 1984 and the party of Brave New World, but now they both got Trumped and our government is in a very peculiar chapter that we will have to keep watching to see how it unfolds.

As for Snowden, no way, the far right and left wingers both hate him. The far rightwingers falsely accuse him of being a treacherous Eurasian spy for uncovering their Thought Police program of domestic surveillance and the far leftwingers don't like Snowden either because they actually want the government is monitor them to protect them and care for them from incubation chamber to grave.
Cruze is a bad example because he is more of a Tea Party candidate. The Republican establishment didn't like him as the candidate, either.

ROFL, so what you're saying is Ted Cruz is guilty of thoughtcrimes against the GOP. He's not "conservative" enough to the GOP Party Orthodoxy? Or is the "establishment" GOP the ones not "conservative" enough? All are guilty of unorthodox heresies against Big Brother Trump! Freedom is Slavery!

Must you misinterpret me? Cruz was too conservative for the GOP establishment. Trump is far from Big Brother, I know he has an odd penchant for Russia- but I don't believe he is a communist.

I would counter that the left likes "Ignorance is Strength!" if they want to start censoring the internet and let people like Zuckerberg be the arbiters of what is real news and what is fake. I remember hearing that the prevalence of fake news was blamed in part by a talking head on the left for Trump's election.

Lol so Cruz is more conservative than all the GOPers even hid dark secret is he was not born in Air Strip One even, perfectly poetic. Yea like I said the GOP are more like the 1984 crowd. They are always in the election season claiming to be the conservative alternative, the most conservative, more conservative even than thou!

The left is pretty ignorant, true, but it's not their mantra. It's like Brave New World's World Controller Government. The people are made ignorant and they like it, the society caters to their every pleasure enslaving them that way. The strangeness with them is they actually like it lol, or maybe we're just the weirdos like John and Helmholtz for not.

As for Trump himself yea in reality Trump is obviously not Big Brother, America isn't built that way. But in GOP Party thinking he certainly is, he is the new champion, one to stump them all. In my biased opinion this is more like L'Mort D'Arthur which I wanted to win, or maybe The Iliad. The true Anglo-American and Western culture. Kings and Knights and Damsels and questing, jousting, and fights and family feuds gone bonkers. Sometimes they're enemies, sometimes they're friends, all are questing and jousting. Sometimes they fighting each other in Camelot, sometimes in foreign lands questing and jousting. Trump is Lancelot, strongest secularly, but maybe not in both full spiritual and temporal truth as Percival and his own son whose mother Elaine he didn't love, the innocent Galahad. Trump the romanticized vassal king and knight like Lancelot, ostensibly the most loyal to Arthur, but also the one most disloyally sleeping with his wife. An insightfully true irony in it all. Yet Trump still will fight and die the death for the King when the prophetic war between father and son comes, when Mordred rises up.

Either this post is incomprehensible, or I am tired, or a little bit of both. Good Night.
