Now that is not what repenting means. That may be a good definition for Saving Faith, but actually Repenting means to admit to God it is sin, and TURN BACK to walking HIS way. Sin is walking away from GOD, and repenting is turning back towards GOD.
Your both right.

but Your definition of repent is the lesser used one in the bible.

The Jews didn't need to repent of their sins. They needed to repent of their unbelief in the Messiah.

Metanoe,w, metanoeo: change your mind, repent; translated repent.

Judas used your definition of repent........and I don't think He made it.

Metame, llomai, metamellomai: change your emotion, regret; translated repent.

And your definition isn't showing up in my reply.

But there are 2 words involved in that one definition.

Metanoe,w, metanoeo: change your mind, repent; translated repent.....this word does not also mean regret or remorse.

This word expresses regret or remorse.....

Metame, llomai, metamellomai: change your emotion, regret; translated repent.

When the bible speaks of gaining salvation it exclusively uses Metanoe. Repent (change your mind) of your unbelief. Change your mind about who you think Christ is.

The fruit of faith is joy and joy produces obedience.

Hebrews 10:15-17 NASB

And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying, "T his is the covenant that I will make with them A fter those days , says the L ord : I will put M y laws upon their heart , A nd on their mind I will write them ," He then says, "A nd their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more ."

Hebrews 10:26-29 NASB

For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries . Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

So does LOVE, and GOD's Love was poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, Romans 5:5.

I think just about everybody here would say that Jesus is "the answer." Does that mean we need to do what he told us to do? Why WOULDN'T we want to do what he told us to do? Is it all that difficult? If we find ourselves struggling to obey those commandments, should we give up?
Scriptures answers your question.

Luk_6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Mat 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Much weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Joh_13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Since our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ PLAINLY and CLEARLY told us this is a COMMANDMENT from HIM, this is something that as a follower of Jesus Christ MUST be obeyed. Those who fail to Love One Another commit sin.

Scriptures also plainly teaches this:

Jas_1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Those who only hear the Word are deceived. But those who hear and DO what the Word of God teaches are abiding in Him.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-8

Amen...and there will be fruits of repentance. These come "after" repenting in our unbelief in Christ's work to come to believe in what Christ has done for us.

There are "fruits" of repentance ( changing the mind )

To believers it means to change our mind to stop relying on ourselves and our thinking and turn to God. Stop living our own life with our own thinking and come to Christ and let His life live through and in you. Receive all that Jesus did for us in His finished work.

We should be repenting ( changing how we think towards something ) constantly as we see the Lord's true nature, love and grace revealed to and in us.

There will always be "fruits" of having a changed mind ( having repented ) to God but the "fruit" is not the repentance within itself. True repentance is the "root" before the "fruit" comes.

The fruit will manifest itself in the form of having a changed heart because we are a new creation in Christ. This will also show in behavior as the life of Christ transforms our outward life to reflect what has already happened in our inner man - that new creation in Christ.

Yes, this means how we view sinning from living a homosexual lifestyle to exhibiting malice and the slandering of others in the body of Christ.

Sometimes our religious traditions can "hi-jack" the meanings of words and can present false assumptions.

Anyone that is interested can listen to examples of this in the video below...it'll bless you and you will fall deeper in love with our Lord as we learn more of Him and we will live a lifelong journey of repentance.

Repentance comes because God grants it to us. Acts. 5:31, Acts 11:18, 2 Tim. 2:25

We love God because He first loved us, and our love for God results in our dependency upon God. It is our dependency upon God that results in our obedience to God. Unfortunately, most Christian teaching has been directed at getting Christians to live obediently, while ignoring the necessity for love and dependency.

It is futile to encourage others to struggle to accomplish in the flesh through self effort what can only be accomplished by Christ through our dependency upon Him.

John 6:28-29 (NKJV)

28 Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

John 16:8-9 (NKJV)
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me;

The topic is obedience. One couldn't win his original argument, so he substituted the subject of the trinity to win against the Op.

This thread was running smoothly until one wanted to beat the Op with a different topic.

Now, a new topic of repentance has come up.

These topics are fine, as long as one doesn't use them for destruction of character.

One shouldn't use God's word as if it's a Klingon weapon.

Repenting to believe in Christ's finished work on the cross is our obedience in action. It is being obedient to the faith. It's time for all of us to repent and believe the gospel - which is true New Covenant obedience - just like Jesus said. Mark 1:16

From this "obedience" the life of Christ can be manifested as His fruit is born on us the branches and the world can see the love and grace that our loving Father and Lord really has for them....:)

That's only the beginning of obedience. Since faith & obedience go hand & hand, we obey till we die.

One does not have to engage in adultery in order to be an adulterer, I don't exactly agree with that one. I have heard people say, to think it is to do it so you might as well go ahead and do it. If thinking adultery was actually the same as physical adultery then you might as well go ahead and enjoy yourself because the consequences would be the same. Thinking adultery is a sin of the mind, committing adultery is a sin against the body, two different things. This is not meant to promote sin because all sin can cause us to lose out with God. Also adultery in the mind can sometimes lead to actual adultery and the consequences of that can be huge.

By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: Romans 1:5

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Romans 5: 19

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Romans 6:16

For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. Romans 16:19

But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: Romans 16:26

And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him. 2 Corinthians 7:15

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:15

And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Corinthians 10:6
