Being saved from the POWER of sin--(ongoing sanctification) [for those who have been saved from the PENALTY of sin]--(justification) is the process and it will come to an end for believers when they are glorified (Romans 8:30). :)
faith is two way sword a double edged sword if you like between two parties.. Gold can not form unless it is purified you can not receive unless you are sanctified enough to bare faith.. the gold can not purify unless other elements purify around it.. cant happen and wont happen...........

Thanks for insulting me..... you know how much I appreciate that.

Now that you've tossed your insults, think you can say something biblical with some meat on it?
Works
is a bad word.
bad
bad
bad bad bad

Good deeds are bad
bad
bad
bad bad bad

Both insult God.
He must be so mad at those who say those words...
mad
mad
mad mad mad

Oh yeah.

Isaiah 5:20 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who [a]substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;
Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

There is one more verse I believe ties in that has also astounded me.
The one where it says:Now I will destroy the righteous along with the wicked. (Jaw dropping).
If this is where Jesus rebuked them for continuing in sin, it was because they had more blessings and knowledge than the others, and to whomsoever much is given much is required...also, maybe I'm assuming a different passage that you meant.....be blessed...

Stephen is right MMD.

Here's what you had written:

In verse 39, the writer of Hebrews sets up the CONTRAST that makes it clear to me that he was referring to unbelievers, not saved people: But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. Those who draw back to perdition do not believe to the saving of the soul and those who believe to the saving of the soul do not draw back to perdition.

Without even mentioning what Paul was speaking of in the verses just before
(Hebrews 10:36 --- the need for endurance so that WHEN WE HAVE DONE THE WILL OF GOD, we will receive what was promised)

It's sufficient to ask:

If one is drawing back...
What is he drawing back from...?

They Drew back to PERDITION.

So, they were saved,
They Drew back to perdition,
They became unsaved.

Easy. No commentary necessary if we just read the bible plainly.
Stephen is wrong MMD is right.

All MMD and Stephen are doing is believing what they believe their commentary is saying and walking in it.

Sorry Stephen I am not going at you and also MMD.

I am just trying to make the point that we can say you are wrong and I am right.

Post 24242 is not mine it is followJesus.

I say sanctification is Holy Spirit who sets us apart for God. Also by the Word.

let's look shall we?

~Joh_17:19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.

in truth.

Act_20:32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

Body of Christ

Act_26:18 to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

faith

Rom_15:16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit

1Co_1:2 To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:

In Christ Jesus

1Co_6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

His name

Heb_2:11 For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers,

by God

Heb_10:10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

His own offering of Son

Heb_10:14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

perfected position

Heb_10:29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?

blood

I said salvation is progressive. We are saved, positional, being saved, present, and will be saved, future.

It's like when Roman Catholics quote the church fathers in order to validate their doctrine, as if the church fathers must have everything figured out because they lived closer to the time of the apostles. That is dangerous logic! The church fathers did not all agree on everything and their writings were certainly not infallible. Also, their writings are copies of copies of copies so how do we know for sure everything they wrote is really what they said? God promised to preserve His Word, but not the fallible writings of fallible men.
Are Luther's writings infallible?

I do believe that we are getting farther and farther away from what Jesus meant when He spoke.
In fact, I believe Jesus spoke very clearly about what He had to say and teach us.
Jesus did.

Are you mistaking the character that is forming within us by the work of Holy Spirit for works?

Works are the result of the empowerment of Holy Spirit, are they not?

Do you not know that the Kingdom starts here?
The Kingdom is NOW.
John 3:3
You fail to grasp that the Kingdom of God cannot abide in this sin corrupted world. It, this sin corrupted world, must be consumed with fervent heat and then be made new and without sin before it can receive the Kingdom of God.

It would seem that your concept of the Kingdom of God is not well aligned with the scripture.

Evening brother.

I do have to say that I find your post quite amusing.
The other person is wrong and you are not.
You are wrong and the other person is not.

I don't find your post amusing to tell you are wrong but because both sides will say the same thing.

Both sides can back up their view with scripture and commentary yet the other is wrong.

To be honest I withdrew for a long time talking to fellow believers about what I believed in terms of salvation, works and so on.
I was so frightened of leading them down the wrong path, even though I felt happy with my position (after a lot of study)

My main problem was that one day when I stand before God he would say "Tut tut you really got that wrong didn't you?
And then I had no idea what would happen after that.

I spoke to the pastor of our church about this.

He said something along the lines of "If you get it wrong that's not the issue as such, if your heart is to walk with people to empower them to become more like Jesus that's what God will look at

It is intersting though that Peter and Paul disagreed. Paul told Peter he was wrong and they didn't even have the bible we have.

To me it's we are saved by faith and not works.
If we are saved by faith then we bear fruit, we want to bear fruit, we want to become more like Jesus.
We want Jesus to increase in us and we decrease.

If a person wants that praise God, even if they struggle to do so.

If they struggle then that is when we come alongside and help and walk.
I noticed that, like others on here, you only speak to ONE SIDE of the argument, & not both.

Is mmd too far gone to deal with?:)

It certainly does match up and it's called harmonizing scripture with scripture.

Yes, Jesus NEVER knew them because they were NEVER saved.

Children of the devil practice lawlessness, not children of God (1 John 3:7-10) which matches up with bad tree/bad fruit; fruitless branches.

UNBELIEVERS.

BAD FRUIT because false prophets are bad trees.

It's either GOOD or BAD. Nothing is mentioned about the good tree going bad at some point. It was bad all along.

Because they are BAD trees, which represents unbelievers.

Because they were UNBELIEVERS. Jesus NEVER knew them.

Good description of Judas Iscariot who was never saved, but was an unbelieving, unclean devil who betrayed Jesus (John 6:64-71; 13:10-11). *See how this all fits together?

Exactly! Scripture must harmonize with scripture. I say that all the time. :)
MMD,

How do you know Judas Iscariot was never saved?
You don't even trust what the early Church fathers wrote...
How could you possibly know if someone was saved or not?

Why is it that those who believe in eternal security are so knowing about WHO IS SAVED AND WHO IS NOT.

If you want to believe in eternal security and have to twist every scripture so that it "harmonizes" with what you have come to believe --- fine.

I just hope persons reading along are not so gullibl as to think that ONCE THEY ACCEPT CHRIST, they will be saved forever, no matter whether or not they produce good fruit.

Jesus was clear. I cannot make it any clearer than HE did.

Regarding Judas I:

In Mathew 10 Jesus sends out THE TWELVE Apostles, having given the AUTHORITY, over unclean spirits, to heal, to preach that the KINGDOM of Heaven is at hand, etc.

Do you suppose that Jesus would give this authority to Judas if Judas was an UNBELIEVER???
One who commited the unpardonable sin???

One who would be counted wth the cities that turned down the Apostles' message?

What would cause us to throw our crowns at His feet?
