Funnily enough I’ve been thinking quite a lot about humility.
These are my musings about Christian humility. I’m not saying I’ve got
it right, but maybe I’m on the right path. Does that make me humble or not!
Humility is proactive it does not mean to sit back and do nothing, that’s passive
which is completely different. It needs putting on, its one of the fruits of the spirit.
It doesn’t mean to have a low opinion of yourself (despite what the dictionary says).
It doesn’t mean to be a dogs body and let people walk all over you.
It doesn't mean to underestimate yourself or hide your talents under a basket.
It means to acknowledge God and walk in His ways (by doing that we are
acknowledging His way is better than ours).
It means recognising that the people we interact with are important
to God as well as us.
It means being willing to listen (I’ve heard of it out as engaging brain before
emptying drain!
)
It means acknowledging we don’t know everything and don’t always have
the answer.
It means getting out of the way so God can work on our behalf, instead
of charging in because our way is best regardless.
It means putting the interests of others first instead of thinking of number one
all the time and being available to the King of Kings to do His work (servant not slave
by the way).
It means recognising that we can’t do everything and be everyone to every person
and being humble enough to acknowledge we get tired, need a break, that the whole
world won’t collapse without us in charge all the time.
It means to recognise we have weaknesses, but in Christ we are strong when we are
weak. For when we really say Lord we can’t do this in our own strength, that is when
God can step in.
It means to recognise our own worth and value and who we are in Christ, because when
standing firm on the rock its the safest, securest place to be. There is no need for pretense
defensiveness, or sarcasm when we know who we are in Christ.
It means to use our gifts and talents in an appropriate way.
Its means learning to say sorry and say we got that wrong.
It means accepting help when it is offered. (That can be incredibly humbly cant it,
to admit when we need help).
It means to be teachable.
Im sure there are lots of other things too.
It means me acknowledging that I’m still working on point one and that
the reality is that life is an entire lesson in humility!
