Here are the twelve tests of a prophet.

Test Number One: Deuteronomy 18:21-22:

"And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him."

Test Number Two: Numbers 12:6
"And he said, hear now my words: if there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream."

Test Number Three: Numbers 24:4 and 16
"He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open...He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:"

Test Number Four: Daniel 10:17
"For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me."
Another test of a true prophet is that they have no breath while in vision. In other words, they don't breathe. According to scripture, this is one of the miracles God performs to identify a genuine prophet. While in vision, they don't breathe.

Test Number Five: Daniel 10:18
"Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me."
Before a vision, a prophet may be very weak in physical strength. But when taken in vision, a true prophet will suddenly receive supernatural strength.

Test Number Six: Jeremiah 28:9
"The prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the Lord hath truly sent him."
A true prophet absolutely does not lie. His predictions will be one hundred percent fulfilled.

Test Number Seven: 2 Peter 1:20
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation."
A true prophet does not give his own interpretation of scripture. Every prophecy he or she proclaims will agree with already established truth. If they receive new light, it must agree with the old light God has already given.

Test Number Eight: 2 Peter 1:21
"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."
So, a true prophet prophesies in the name of the Lord, not in his own name. A true prophet will manifest the fruits of that same spirit because he or she speaks through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Test Number Nine: 1 Corinthians 14:3
"But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort."
In other words, a true prophet gives direction to God's true church. And a true prophet's messages will cover all of these three areas: Edification -- to instruct morally; Exhortation -- this means to strongly advise; and Comfort -- to soothe in distress or sorrow, to console. All of these three things will be exemplified by a true prophet.

Test Number Ten: Isaiah 8:19-20
"And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."
God gives a clear distinction between false prophets and true prophets here -- between the works of hellish darkness, and the works of heavenly light.
How could it be any plainer? God says, "To the law," what's the law? It is the ten commandment law of God, " . . . and to the testimony . . ." What's the testimony? The "testimony" is the rest of scripture. " . . . If they speak not according to this word [the 10 commandments and the Bible], it is because they have no light in them."

Test Number Eleven: 1 John 4:1-3
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they, are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is in the world."
A true prophet believes in the incarnation of Jesus Christ, and will never question the fact that Jesus came in man's fallen nature, in our fallen flesh. The Bible says any person, or church, claiming that Jesus Christ came to this earth in any other way, than in the fallen flesh that you and I have, is the spirit of antichrist.

Test Number Twelve: Matthew 7:15-16
"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. . ."
In other words, look at what their ministry produces. If all they produce is a good time, with theme parks and water slides, and all they spend their time doing, is telling people to send them money, on the authority of the Word of God, that person is a false prophet.

These are 12 tests from the Bible for anyone claiming to be a prophet. I know that there are some people on christian chat that claim to be prophets what I would like to know is if they are willing to be tested by the Bible if they are true or not? If not the why not?

YES AMEN LAO.

now....i'm trying to determine if we have instructions on what to do if they

a) won't allow testing
b) are proven false

any counsel on that Lao? its quite a serious matter, and as one who has been watching this prophetic thing unfold, we're about to be flooded. this is going to get really thick: i'm so grateful for The Lord's faithfulness to lead us into the Truth as we prayerfully study and help each other.

I think the Scripture Lao' put up is the proof of if someone is a prophet. Who could give a prophet a test? The proof is if it comes true. People testing for prophets would have to wait and see if what they say comes true, unless what they say is already not Biblical, like the guy who said he know when the World would end. That was stupid! The World doesn't end in Revelation untill alot of things happen first. The Rapture could happen at anytime, but the World ending is after so many events in Revelation it would be stupid to think it could happen in one day.

The test of a prophet is not only telling the future and seeing if it comes true but also if someone claims to be a prophet God will speak to them in dreams and visions, and when in vision they won't breath and will have great supernatural strength while in vision and their eyes will be open. Anyone claiming to be a prophet who hears voices but is not having dreams and visions is not a prophet according to the Bible.

Also they must speak according to the 10 commandments all 10. Can you show me one prophet in the Bible that did not speak according to all 10 commandments? They must also agree with what is revealed in scripture.

you forgot they must remain silent when God tells them to remain silent and give complete obedience to God. Speaking only as God demands them to speak for every word they utter will be from God.

Exodus 4:10-12
New King James Version (NKJV)
10 Then Moses said to the LORD, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”
11 So the LORD said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the LORD? 12 Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.”

Ezekiel 3:25-27
New King James Version (NKJV)
25 And you, O son of man, surely they will put ropes on you and bind you with them, so that you cannot go out among them. 26 I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be mute and not be one to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious house. 27 But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD.’ He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.

There are too many people these days claiming to be prophets. It is a serious issue, one that should be addressed. Any claiming to be a prophet should be tested by the Bible from the church. When Paul was converted God pointed him to the church

Acts 9:6
(6) And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Any that will not allow testing must have something to hide and must be treated as a false prophet. Our faith is in the Bible not in the word of man just because they tell us that they are a prophet does not mean we are to blindly follow

1 John 4:1
(1) Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

If these people claiming to be prophets are tested it will be shown that they are not true prophets. God may have genuine prophets later but none of the people who claim to be prophets today pass the test

we should also discuss the difference between fortunetelling/ soothesaying and prophecy.

the first tells the future and may even come true

the second tells the future and leads people to a closer more intimate relationship with GOD.

One is forbidden by scriptures. the other is always in line with scripture.

I think a prophet would just shrugge. Why take a test if your a prophet just to prove it to someone. People would still believe, just not you. And they could still give prophecy to people who listen. You just will not get one.

They should be tested because it is written in the Bible:-

1 John 4:1
(1) Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Also the Bible does not teach blind faith that would be foolish. Our faith is to be in the word of God. Faith is based on evidence and if someone passes the test of a prophet then we have evidence. Testing someone is God's instruction not ours and if someone who claims to be a prophet will not be subjected to a test by the church from the Bible then they are refusing God's instruction and are a false prophet.

Hebrews 11:1
(1) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Luke 24:27
(27) And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

I think you added a few things to the Scripture. God never said everyone had to be in a trance, the Bible just says someone was in a trance. God never said he would always do it the same. Noah built a boat. Moses held up a stick. Joshua did warfare and so did David. The Bible never said that prophets had to be breathless or do all the things that happened before. Those are not test. You made up alot to be honest. Does everyone have to have the same vision as Ezekiel or does everyone have to be in a trance. NO. God never said it was always the same to be a prophet. That is what happened to someone else.

All I am hearing from you is your own words you have not shown any Bible you are on the side of false prophets and are making excuses. It is simple God said He will communicate to prophets through dreams and visions and the Bible tells us what happens to a person when in vision. If you don't like it then take it up with God for it is written in His book.

the scriptures and The Holy Spirit are either sufficient or they are not.
the FOUNDATION was already laid.
