Luke 6: [SUP]31 [/SUP]Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.

A person on here probably has had to deal with that dreaded
phone call from a telemarketer.

Would any of us be willing to share how we, as Christians treat
them and be honest about it ?

Okay, you know me. Well some don't, but I am an open book.
Wish I could say I am always nice. Do we have any examples
to share ?

I want to say right off, it is very wise to ask them to send you some
literature before committing yourself to give money. If they agree
then you will know it was legit. If not, at least you have not lost
anything. ~ J~ K~ 2

I just say, "No, thanks. I'm not interested" and hang up. I feel sorry for the employees but the corporations can go and jump in a lake.

Caller ID helps too. Especially with all the ones that are all prerecorded.

Ring, Ring, Ring, Ring, ~ I look, oh darn it's a telemarketer.
I don't feel like talking.
Me: Hello?
TM: Good evening Mrs J~K, how are you?
Me: I am sick and I really don't feel up to talking.
TM: Oh, I am sorry, well did you know we are ......
Me: Excuse me, but what part of "I am sick" do you not understand?
TM: Okay, I will call you another time.

Great. That went well. My husband absolutely will not talk to them.
Ring~ Ring~ Ring~
Me: Hello ?
TM: I would like to speak with Mr. H.
Me: I am sorry but he will not speak with you.
TM: Is he there?
Me: Yes, he is here, but I am telling you he will not take your call.

That is the end of that one.

Thank goodness for Caller ID. Many calls have been ignored.

My heart does go out to telemarketer. I know you have to make
a living. My daughter (now deceased ) hated it, but she did it
because she could be hired.

BTW, I don't lie to the TM if I am really too sick to talk.
Usually if I get caught of guard, I just tell them I do not want
to do even discuss it. Or if I am not busy I will listen and then
when deal with them. It really does depend on my mood. And
yes I know that is wrong. My husband tells me I am too nice.
I dislike pushy sales pitches. Yet I know there is one who is
listening to me, ( sometimes I forget ) . To complete my
confession... Sometimes I am... Sometimes I am short with them.
So there... I did it... I told on myself. ~ J~ K~ 2

caller Id don't answer phone
Have you noticed how many times they try to get you even with
the caller ID ? I had one outfit UNKNOWN NAME UNKNOWN NUMBER
call in the AM..... Ignore it..... PM ...... ( same day )...... But I stay
persistent and really am able to ignore it. Yet times I feel guilty.
And will let them talk... to at least get their quota in.

If I happen to answer the phone and get a telemarketer I tell them nicely that I am not interested and then hang up before they can start reading their "script" again.

I don't stay on for long, either...

I once made the mistake of calling one up (I didnt know it was telemarketing, I had just moved, and didnt know if it was perhaps the landlord or something). It took ages to get off the phone. I actually wish I had just hung up.

As for treat others how you want them to treat you: I don't want them to talk to me, so why talk to them? :p

Are telemarketers bad in Norway, too?

Do they use Riksmaal or Landsmaal?

I used to be one of those dreaded telemarketers, and did well, if I say so myself. When I get a call from a telemarketer, I let them say the first part of their speech, down to the part where they say a price or an amount. When they wait for me to answer them, I say, very politely, with no stopping for a breath, I'm sorry I cannot help you today, but I do thank you for calling.By. and hang up. I am polite, they are not offended, and if they are being audited by their employers (which they do without any notice)
they have done their job well and cannot be discredited because I hung up.

Hi mamasan.... I really do want to be nice and generally I let the answering machine
pick up. I can't for the life of me understand their persistence. I had One that called
me in the AM & PM for weeks. Same number. I google the number and find it is on
the 'telemarketer' lists.
If I feel okay, some times I really will go ahead and answer. It depends on my mood.
As I said I know God is watching me... and I know the person on the other end needs
that sale, but I just won't do it. And as I said I do ask if it is an organization I never
heard of, to send me brochure. I did that once to a young girl, and she said, "oh we
don't make them." I said, "you don't have anything to show what your organization
is about." "No, she said." I think it shook her up, I wasn't mean, but I think it is wise
before committing to a cause we have no idea what they really are all about.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I know it must be made known this is how
they earn their pay. And the Lord knows they really do need it. God bless. J~K ~2

Telemarketers are easy, you just hang up. Now those guys on the street or at shopping centers trying to stop and sell you something are another matter lol

I've done telemarketing before. It's not that bad. Now, being a debt collector is a whole different story. People cry on the phone, curse at you, or simply hang up on you. On a few occasions I did have pleasant conversations, but they were rare.

People, plese be nice to telemarketers and debt collectors. Often times, people seem to forget that the person on the other side of the line is also a human being trying to make a living.
