Another one I like is:

"Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son,
Endless is the victory Thou for us hast won."

Another one is:

'Jesus, the sinner's Friend,
We hide ourselves in Thee,
God looks upon the sprinkled blood,
It is our only plea.'

My favorite hymn is "In the Garden" written in 1913 by Charles A. Miles.

I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses,
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.
Refrain:
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.
I’d stay in the garden with Him,
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.

^April I have a lovely story involving that hymn 'In The Garden'..

David Pawson (a British Bible teacher) once spoke about a testimony of Chinese man in Brighton.

This man had been in prison for 17 years because he was a Christian, and he was the only Christian in the wing of his prison.

They gave him the worst job of all ~ which involved cleaning the sewerage (in each cell there was a hole, which led through a channel into an open concrete cesspit) ~ this filled up everyday, so he had to actually physically jump into it and shovel it all out. He had to shovel it bit by bit into a wheelbarrow and spread it out in a field.

Now he had been told that he couldn't sing or pray in his prison cell, but since nobody would come near him whilst he was in the cesspit, he was free to do these things as nobody could hear him there ~ so he chose this hymn 'In The Garden'....because he had learned it from an American missionary....he would be waist deep in this muck, singing ' I come to the garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses....and He walks with me and He talks with Me....and tells me I am His own....'
Over time that became like the garden of Eden to him, and he looked forward to going there everyday...

I love this testimony as it reminds me of how Jesus can turn every situation around for His glory, no matter how bad, if we would just let Him.

This was a favorite of a friend of mine, now with the Lord.

"Keep us, Lord,
O keep us cleaving
To Thyself,
And still believing
Til the hour of our receiving,
Promised joys in heaven". (W.Kelly)

Favorite Hymns? There are too many...

From the ‘Johannes Passion’ by Johann Sebastian Bach
here's chorale n[SUP]o [/SUP]11. It's sung at the very end of the passion.

Translated into english:

Ah Lord, let thine own angels dear
At my last hour my spirit bear
To Abraham's own bosom,
My body in its simple bed
In peace without distress and dread
Rest till the day of judgment!
And then from death awaken me,
That with mine eyes I may see thee
In fullest joy, O God's own Son,
My Saviour and my gracious throne!
Lord Jesus Christ, give ear to me,
I would thee praise eternally!

Bless the Lord O my Soul

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up, it's a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

[Chorus]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name

You're rich in love, and You're slow to anger
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

[Chorus]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

[Chorus x2]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name

Jesus, I'll worship Your holy name
Lord, I'll worship Your holy name

Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name
Jesus, I'll worship Your holy name
I'll worship Your holy name

Bach supplied some excellent tunes to Christian hymns.

In St Matthew Passion, for example.

"Fairest Lord Jesus, ruler of all nature,
O Thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor,
Thou, my soul’s glory, joy and crown."

As the Deer panteth for the water so my soul longeth after thee

You alone are my strength, my shield

To you alone may my spirit yield

You alone are the real joy giver and the apple of my eye
Do you know the second verse?

One of my favorites too. One day, I'm going to have a Irish strings arrangement of this made.

Bless the Lord O my Soul
I love this one.

Okay, so now we are on page 8 or 9 and no one has mentioned "Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus." Hmm, maybe it's not as well known as I thought.

'Come let us sing the matchless worth
And sweetly sound the glories forth
Which in the Savior shine.
To God and Christ our praise we'll bring,
The song with which the heavens ring
We'll sing with grace divine.'
