Remind them that as a Christian (not sure if this person is one or not) suicide would be self murder , and a one way ticket to hell. Remind this person that this life is only temporary and a drop in the bucket compared to eternity, encourage them with these words.

Hell is a way to encourage people? Better to let them know of the love of God.

The fear of eternal damnation is a pretty good encouragement to me, I guess everyone is different in that respect.

That's really the last thing you want to say to a fragile person who may already think they deserve punishment for some reason or another.

That's one of the reasons God has us here. The reason he has you in school where you are, too. Keep your eyes and ears open each day.

I do.....
It's tough though when you try to help and fail and someone you know kills themselves.
It's tough hearing how many people have killed themselves in the district....heck even in my main school or my jrotc school
Anyway. This doesn't matter.
It's not about my school.........

You would probably be better at it than you might think.
Here's how it would go:

*Sees suicidal person*

Suicidal person: I want to die. :(

Me: ...Uh huh...why though? :/

Suicidal person: I am bankrupt, my kids have gone to my wife, and I am homeless.

*I desperately struggle to think about what to say with ticking the person off*

Me: No...Don't do it...because...uhhhhhhhhhh...umm...errrrr...ehhhh...

*1 hour later*

Me: *Mumbles* Ummmm.....uhhhh...hmmmm...because...God loves you...and...uhh...he wants you to be here...because...

*Suicidal person jumps to his death, screaming*

Me: ...Oh no...

Sometimes all someone needs is someone who listens and cares...

Ok, now please take the time to write out one more similar script, but with ME encountering the person.

This an is a very good friend of mine. We slap each other around almost every Sunday. He is the Assistant Pastor at my church, and I am at his house off and on, all the time.

Listen to him. This is what he does for a living — speaking to students — but it is also how he lives every minute of his life.

I believe suicide is an act of self-centered arrogance. Many of these people are really saying,

"Pay attention to me, feed my ego! If you don't I'll kill myself! Then you'll be sorry, because everyone will know it was because of you that I was driven to kill myself!" (The "you" here is often times an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend.)

What can you say to a person in such a state of mind? How can you bring them back to reality and a state of humility? Calling for professional help may be the best option until they calm down.

If they are Christians I would remind them from the Word of God that there is hope:

Psa 27:13 I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.

Psa 31:22 As for me, I said in my alarm, "I am cut off from before Your eyes"; Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications When I cried to You.

Psa 34:15-19 The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry. The face of the Lord is against evildoers, To cut off the memory of them from the earth. The righteous cry, and the Lord hears And delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.

Psa 42:11 Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.

Jas 4:6-10 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble." Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.

I would have to call you a bit prideful and somewhat misinformed. Of course suicide is very a cry for help... attention... as you seem to need to call it. It is people just wanting — needing — to feel they aren't just "nothing."

If someone told you they wanted to die how would you help them?
I would just tell them to hang out with me for a while because i have been there personally, and its not happy fun time.. That type of thinking is a result of deep internal pain and unresolved issues, and to change it, they would need a change in perspective and also to know their worth in Christ. Sadly there are no "quick fix" words a person can say to change someone,
but a lot of time being spent hanging around the right type of people, the right type of stuff rubs off on them too.

Due to Christ's great love for us, the sins of the world have been forgiven through His shed righteous blood. One has either placed their faith in Christ, or they have not. If they have not, they pass into the second death. That is the plain teaching of Scripture. Suicide is simply a fast track to the first death, to escape the pain of life. I think love is a far greater motivator than that of eternal damnation. I don't believe that doctrine, anyways. I believe what the Bible says in a multitude of places: the wages of sin is death. Jesus overcame sin and death on our behalf. He did not pay the wages of sin of being tormented in hell forever after, but of death, and He rose to new life again, as shall we be resurrected to new life through Him.

Well, first I'd ask why, because until I know the story, I don't know if the person needs help.

Actually, that wasn't the case at all for me. Matter of fact, the thing that held me here the most was knowing it wasn't my family's fault, and yet part of them would think it was.

Mine was a simple case of hurting too much, seeing no way out of it, and not being able to function, at all, in that amount of pain.
