I have posted some "insights/quotes" from Abraham Lincoln from time to time on various threads, but last night I decided his "insights/quotes" are worthy of their own thread. I hope some will be touched, or even inspired by them. God bless.

[to properly catalogue these, I will have to repost the first one, so please forgive]

INTERCESSION OF THE SPIRIT

Romans 8:26 .) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

"Let pure devotion's fervours rise,
Let every holy feeling glow;
Oh, let the rapture of the skies
Kindle in our cold hearts below.
Come, verifying Spirit, come,
And make our hearts thy constant home.

Can I ask why Abraham Lincoln is so honoured amongst Americans? What did he do to carry the status that he has?
I never realised he was such a godly man until I read some of his quotes (in this thread lol) and I'm wondering if it was his godliness that makes him so honourable, and if so, we need our leaders and people to recognise that it was his godliness that made him great, not his political correctness.

In my opinion only, and from what I learned at University, Lincoln was anything but Politically correct. The entire Nation did not "love" him. Civil War surely proves this point. However, I believe that his Presidency was a clear sign of God placing the right man in the right position at the right time to accomplish His will.

Lincoln was not a perfect man, but he was the right man to lead our Nation through one of it's darkest times in my opinion.

1 Peter 1:2 .) Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Can ought beneath a power devine
The stubborn will subdue?
'Tis thine, eternal Spirit, thine,
To form our hearts anew.
'Tis thine the passions to recall,
And upwards bid them rise;
And make the scales of error fall
From reason's darkened eyes.

Galatians 5:22 .) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 .) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

'Tis God Himself the ground prepares,
His Spirit sows the land;
And every pleasant fruit it bears,
Is nurtur'd by His hand.

Thank you for posting these quotes p_rehbein. It is well worth everyone's
time to read them in their entirety. If only we had such godly men in power
today. Unfortunately the ungodly people of this country no longer have any
sense and continue to vote in the worst people. Our elected officials are a
reflection of the state of the people of the land and we get what we deserve.

INHERITANCE AMONG THE SANCTIFIED

Acts 20:32 .) And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

From earth we shall quickly remove,
And mount on our native abode;
The House of our Father above,
The Palace of angels and God.

I remember my father introducing us to these heroes, great men (and women like Helen Keller also) to look up to although they started "small."

Psalms 92:14 .) They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; 15 .) To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Lord, one thing we want,
More holiness grant;
For more of thy mind and thy image we pant:
While onward we move
To Canaan above,
Come, fill us with holiness, fill us with love.

PERSEVERING GRACE

Job 17:9) The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

The righteous, bless'd with light divine,
Shall prosper on their way;
Brighter and brighter still shall shine,
To glory's perfect day.

CONFIDENCE IN PRAYER

1 John 5:14) And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

He who for man their Surety stood,
And poured on earth His precious blood,
Pursues in heaven His mighty plan,
The Savior and the friend of man.

With boldness, therefore, at the throne,
Let us make all our sorrows known;
And ask the aid of heavenly power,
To help us in the evil hour.
