Because everything in the metric system can be divided equally.
Half of ten is five, half of five goes into fractions right away. metric keeps it to whole numbers.

In computer language, you do not count by tens. To do that you count to nine, then spill over to make one plus zero.
Go to 19, then spill over, and so on.

In computer numbering, you go to 8 or 16 then spill over.

Computers could not use our 9 plus a spill over because it could not be divided without fractions.

Why is the question asked about Europeans using metric - the whole world uses metric - I think there are only 4 countries worldwide that don't UK and US being 2 of them. Get in step guys or we'll be leaving you behind

Where you are maybe. Here we say a meter is 39.37 inches and then say the cm is 1/100 of that.
That is only in America - where the length of an inch is different to that in the rest of the world. No consistency - metric system would solve all that. Your army uses metric already

Your system of measuring temperature isn't as accurate as ours.

This is actually the one thing I think Metric is better. Ours is TOO accurate. In theirs, you wear a parka at -10, a coat at 0, a windbreaker at 10, street clothes at 20, shorts at 30, take off everything you can at 40. Body temp is 37, fever is 38, doctor at 39, hospital at 40. Cook a roast at 160, pizza at 270 if I remember my teaching right. All the numbers are even, no decimals to match human need to the system.

I don't know if you can be TOO accurate. In our system, 100 degrees is hot and 0 degrees is cold. And we all have it burned into our head that 72 degrees is just right.

Maybe we should go to the UN and have the Metric system declared illegal.

I have to admit - that is the first time I have ever heard Fahrenheit called accurate let alone too accurate. think about it the fahrenheit does not make any sense whatsoever, even less than the imperial or US system of weight and measures.
At 0 water freezes - at 100 it boils - simple.

Why do Europeans use the metric system?
... because of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Vive la France!

Chicory History
"It is known that its use in this form was widespread in France after Napoleon initiated the 'Continental Blockade' in 1808, which deprived the French of most of their coffee. ... When the blockade was lifted the French continued to use chicory as an additive because they believed it was good for one's health and improved the flavor of coffee."
About Chicory Coffee - Still Perkin' Coffee Shop

The metric system improves the flavor no more than a snail crawling across my front yard that I decide to weigh in grams or ounces before I eat it.

Without the french 'you' would probably have lost the war of independence and the USA as we know it wouldn't even exist today.
So some respect for your oldest ally please. :p

Just as a general rule, the measurement scale with the smaller size units is more accurate, since you have more choices to name the size of what you are measuring, without having to resort to decimals.

Let's talk logic: You carry a yard with you (it's a pace), and a half yard (elbow to biggest extended finger), a quarter yard (open your fingers all the way, it's a span). You carry a mile (it's 1/4 or 1/3 of an hour walking, almost exactly). you carry a cup (just cup your hands). You even carry 10 degrees of arc (it's 5 fingers wide when your arm is extended in front of your eyes). 2 lb. of meat or grain is exactly one day's calorie needs. 1 acre feeds 2 people, and is 70 paces square. 1lb. of meat=8 lb. of fruit=16 lb. of vegetables in calories. You eat 1/4 of 10 lb. of food at a meal. Everything is in 2's and 3's, you can do the arithmetic in your head. Try matching one thing, ANY one thing to your body in Metric. And what's the advantage of being able to calculate in 10's if you can't visualize 10 things accurately without counting them? And try reaching for that calculator, or paper and pencil to move the decimal point, to figure 1/3 of the recipe demanding 225g of molasses when your hands are full of batter.
1 meter = a slightly taller man's pace
a half a meter = elbow to biggest extended finger of a man with slightly longer arms
an average man walks a kilometer in about 10-12 minutes; his pace is 1.5 meters.
your fingers are about 2cm wide
the width of your fist at arms length is about 10 degrees

.. etc

now try finding an "average person" to get all your measurements exact.

Yes. All can be worked with, once you see how to do it this way by studying how the old system was divised.

The metric system is inhuman and reminds me of socialism, soccer, and conformity. It is devoid of romance.

Give him 2.54 centimeters and he'll take 1.609344 kilometers!

9" nails would become 22.86 centimeters.

Would a Texan wear a 37.854 liter hat?

To just name few of the great measurement sayings we would lose with this system!
